The first video above shows the early Unreal Engine 3 alpha footage, Project Awakened will run on Unreal Engine 4 and have full modding support.
Project Awakened began as a game titled Hero way back in 2006 by Midway, when Midway tanked the game died with it. Thankfully the developers of the game loved the idea so much they decided to start a new development company called Phosphor Games Studio and continue development. The basic idea behind Project Awakened is that some catastophy happened an it has 'awakened' super powers in a number of individuals, including you. The game is an open world sandbox in which you can customise your characters looks, powers, and weapons of choice, essentially granting you one of the most open character creation tools on the market. By choosing powers you can tailor your own playstyle, whether it be stealthy with invisibility, highly mobile with teleportation and super speed, or by becoming a powerhouse of insane strength with the ability to soak up bullets. As you can see in the video above the range of powers is highly impressive already.
The developers are asking for $500,000 to show investors that the demand for this game exists but they also have a few stretch goals:

If you pledge $25 or more you will recieve a digital download of the game, or you could pledge $5 or $20 and not. Yeah.
Personally I was highly disappointed when Midway died and we got news that Hero died with it, but now that Project Awakened is doing a kickstarter, and has recieved $77,000 in 4 days, I'm pretty stoked. There's a LOT more information on the Kickstarter page, so go read that.

I really don't like stretch goals that 'Deepen' the story or stuff like that. Anyhoo this game looks promising!
I loved City of Heroes and DCUO
Got high hopes for this game, going to pledge

Why the fucking hell is "base gameplay and basic character customization" A FUCKING STRETCH GOAL?
I hope this gets made, I remember seeing it and really wanting it way back when it was still Hero

Because that's what they need money for? Why would they even do a kickstarter if they don't need it for the basic game?

That's the minimum goal to be funded :v:

Wait
But one of the stretch goals in basic modding support?
Because that's what they need money for? Why would they even do a kickstarter if they don't need it for the basic game?
It's misleading. Stretch goals usually happen after the main goal is met. What it sounds like in that sense is "give us money, then give us more money and we'll make the game."
as opposed to "This first goal will help us make the game, the rest are bonuses."
That's the minimum goal to be funded :v:
Oh. It didn't specify that. It being on the stretch goals list made me think the asking was like 400-450k and at 500k it was going to have that.
[editline]7th February 2013[/editline]
The picture made it look like "give us more than we ask for and we will give you the base game"
Just imagine that they released superman 64 instead :v:

They intend full support as a stretch goal apparently. The video doesn't do a great job of explaining what they will do and what tey want to do, but they at least have a working concept so it's not like it would be too hard for them to add, they even showed some example in the video of what hey'd like to add.

Yeah I don't like those stretch goals. 150K for "basic" modding support? "Deeper story"? The only one that isn't bullshit is the multiplayer one.
It should simply be "our goal is 500K, but if we get more money we'll use it to make the game better".
I have doubts on this. I doubt they`ll be able to make it really "super hero" like. The screenshots make it look like your average shooter with some customization to how you shoot, but I do hope I`m wrong.

Now that you mention it, there character is using guns in almost every screen shot. :v:
Anyway, there's plenty of other stuff in the actual video, i'd recommend watching that instead of judging by screens.

The older videos back from "Hero" showed way more than shooting. It had stuff like a girl with a katana doing this short dash-teleport thing around and slicing soldiers up. There was a character that would possess soldiers and do shit like that, there were characters who turned invisible, threw fireballs, lighting bolts and all that. I'm pretty sure you could play the whole game without even picking up a gun.
this looks promising i really hope it gets funded
I wish so too, but I doubt it.
They added a new video showing off some of the prototype powers and how they can be combined. Some really cool shit like super speed, mind control, and teleportation.

After seeing this I'm quite intrigued.
I'm skeptical as to whether or not this can be funded in time. Still looking forward to it though.
I really hope this gets funded, this has potential that easily gets near Planetary Annihlation, we need to get this funded.
Oh shit, teleportation + hand to hand + super speed = Albert god damn Wesker
This may be the first kickstarter that I consider backing

Fuckit, make a power that absorbs other super powers. Peter Petrelli up in this bitch.
The game gives me an Infamous/Prototype vibe, I'd pledge if I could.
I'm strongly considering backing this project. Looks very promising.
Only thing is, I'm wondering if you develop your character past the initial creation. I'm sure (I hope) you progress some how. Right now it looks like : Design outfit, make set of skills/powers and play.

There was some old video I saw somewhere of the game from before the kickstarter and they seemed to talk about there being upgrades and stuff for the powers you chose. You'll probably just pick the base powers at the start and then keep expanding on them and upgrading them trough the game.

Makes sense. It'd get old really quick if you had the powers in that video right from the get-go.
I wonder if you can do any visual customizing after creation to?
Here's some old, 2009 gameplay of "Hero" when it was being developed by Midway.

I believe it's the same build but I'm not sure.
I'm too lazy to look on Kickstarter for this. If I was to "back" this game, $75 for example and the game didn't reach it's funding goal. Would I get my $75 back or would Kickstarter keep some/all of it?

I'm fairly sure you get it back.
