Hello everyone.
I'm having a very annoying problem with the water textures in HL2 Episode 2..
Well... They just don't render. All the water is solid white.
This doesn't just happen when I'm in Ep2 itself, but also when playing other games that use Ep2 water textures.
Its really annoying and I'd like it a lot of someone can figure it out. I don't really want to wait a week for Valve to answer a support ticket...
Screenshots anyone?

leak, buildcubemaps, refresh local content, dx9 compatibility issue, etc
Leak?
Tried building cubemaps,
Tried refreshing local content...
what do you mean dx9 comparability issue??
Oh, and I reinstalled Ep2 and it did nothing.
VALVE'S HINTING aT EPISODE 3!!!!!1111
delete "materials" folder
Ive reinstalled the whole thing, deleting the folders before reinstalling....
Tried it. -_-
screenshots added... look at OP
Wow, graphics look very low. Is this in DX8 mode? EP2 has several materials for different graphic levels. This may be causing an issue.
I have no idea what mode its in lol
My GFX card does suck though, that may be why the graphics look very low.
How do I change modes? If there are several materials, Then this may solve the problem..

EDIT: I'm not sure if I even have DirectX... If I download DirectX 11 could this help??
[editline]01:05AM[/editline]
Just installed DirectX... It had no effect whatsoever.
What is your graphics card?
This will force lower quality water materials but at least they will render.
steam > games > hl2 > launch options > "-dxlevel 80"
hl2? the problem is in ep2, but all other games that use the ep2 water texture do this. I will try though.
[editline]01:26AM[/editline]
The start parameter did nothing. Still white.
My GFX card.... Ugh.... NVidia Geforce3 Ti200........................ :saddowns:
The problem is that you spilled some milk onto your graphics card. Hose it off and it should be fine.
How about you give me a serious answer? Oh, wait... I came to Facepunch expecting all serious answers?
What was I thinking...? lol.
Maybe Valve accidentally replaced the Water texture with the Milk texture... lmao.
But seriously, I'm pissed that I can't get these textures to show up.
Everything I thought of has already been said.
Okay. Well, Hopefully more people will see this tomorrow with suggestions.
The problem can wait a day. I'm off for the night anyways.

Maybe if you'd answer our questions we'd be able to help you with yours! Crazy thought, I know! :downs:
OP I believe it's because your graphics card is ridiculously outdated.
Looks like someone came.

Yeah, lot's of cum. Gman behind this all?
Yes, it's the dxlevel. I made a thread about this about a year ago. Check it in video options.
:gizz:
:q:
Okay, I've heard of cyber sex, but please try not to have an accident on your GPU.

What questions? I said what GFX card I have.
OP I believe it's because your graphics card is ridiculously outdated.
Could be. But I would like to think that's not the case until I get a new PC.
Yes, it's the dxlevel. I made a thread about this about a year ago. Check it in video options.
I'll look into this. But this won't change it for other games which use Ep2 water, will it?
Meh, I'll try it anyways.
@Everyone else
Stay on topic please. I know.. Yeah right...
I think you have to add -dxlevel9 into startup parameters f you can't do it in video options.

Video card is the problem. How did you even get episode two to even launch with that?
Apparently, if you set GMod's dxlevel to 7 and then go to a map with water, the water will be pure white, like in your screenshots. Ep.2 supposedly doesn't support DX7.
As Memobot said, check your video settings to see what your DX level is set to. Options -> Video -> Advanced, and it should say what your current DX level is towards the bottom of the window. Please tell us what it says.
Also, I just noticed that in both of your screenshots, your flashlight is on. :raise:
I think you have to add -dxlevel9 into startup parameters f you can't do it in video options.
It's "-dxlevel <90, 95, or 98>", not "-dxlevel9". If that even would work, it would set one's DX level to 0.9. I'm amazed at how many people don't know how to use the launch option correctly.

"I believe dx level 0.9 is the only one that the graphicscard is capable of using."
The fact that you can even run Episode 2 with that insanely terrible card is a miracle. You should really look into getting a new PC, or a new video card at least.
Holy crap he is running at 640x480!
Nobody is answering you seriously because it's so obvious.
Your graphics card is from four years before half-life 2 came out and seven years before Episode 2 came out.
Your computer simply can't run the game. That's all.
Are you blind? I was running the game in the screenshots. Everything works fine except the water.

I am. I wouldn't be surprised if it still did this.
"I believe dx level 0.9 is the only one that the graphicscard is capable of using."
Ive ran high dx levels on many other games.

It wont let me change it ingame, and I did the launch options thing, still didn't work.
And yes, my flashlight was on, so?
I'm taking everyone's advice and getting a new GFX card. Although I'm sure it will still happen...
