Yume Nikki v1: Why can't I hold all these effects!

From the Yume Nikki Wiki:
Yume Nikki (ゆめにっき) (pronounced /juːmeɪ niki/) is a 32-Bit freeware game created by Kikiyama, a Japanese solo game designer. The game was made using RPGMaker 2003. The game is regarded as one of the most original applications of RPGMaker 2003, and the start of a possible new genre of games.
"Yume Nikki" means "dream diary" (and thus the word can be written as 夢日記 although the title is normally in hiragana) and the game follows a young girl named Madotsuki as she dreams. The player can control where she goes and how she interacts. The goal is to acquire 24 effects and drop them all in the nexus.
The game otherwise has no plot, and nearly the entire game is left up to fan speculation.
First off, it's free. And not only that, it's a really addicting and interesting game. I just downloaded it yesterday and played it for a day, and I'm totally hooked on it. It is so complex and large and there are a ton of places to explore and things to do. So I created a thread to share this great game with you guys and see what you think of it. The controls are unorthodox yet simple. Esc is menu, arrow keys to move, 1 to perform the related action for whatever effect you have equipped, 9 to wake up. And you press 6 or 8 (can't remember) to drop the equipped effect as an egg in the nexus/door room, although you don't really need to do this until you have all of them.
Here are a few guidelines I must point out.
1. PUT SPOILERS IN SPOILER TAGS!!!!
2. It is recommended that you do not read any part of the wiki until playing the game extensively. However, if you're like me, you don't like to spend a lot of time wandering around blindly looking for stuff. So what I have been doing is exploring for a while on my own, then reading up on the places I have explored and things I have seen and looking for things to do there. This way I now know of new places to explore without ruining the fun of the game.
3. For the best experience, play the game alone in a dark room with headphones. This game relies heavily on atmosphere.

Have fun!
Played this years ago. It's p trippy.
This game has an odd fan art following: http://fuckyeahyumenikki.tumblr.com
All I know about this game is uboa, and that's enough to creep me away from this game.
This game reminded me of LSD Dream Emulator in a lot of ways, but this game actually has interaction and an ending.
Also, Madotsuki's shirt design is really cool. I wonder if I could actually get that on a shirt somehow.

Yeah, the first thing I thought of when I played it was LSD. Though Yume Nikki is a lot more deep and emotional in my opinion, rather than funny and awkward like LSD.
Also, the music from this game is really good, but the remixes are a lot better (at least in my opinion).

Odd indeed.
[sp]some of the porn that people make of this game is downright fucking terrifying[/sp]
Does anyone know of a mac version of Yume 2kki or .flow for when I finish Yume Nikki?
I find the concept and all the fan theories amazing, it's just an interesting thing to try to figure out. Oh and Uboa is rather disturbing.
Oh god good, I still have this thing on my harddrive... I loved it a lot.
i think im gonna try this out
Dooty dooty doo, this game aint so scary, is that an eyeball? Are those eyeballs, ELEPHANT THING NOPENOPENOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE
I installed it on a spare pc for my little 11 year old brother and he just came downstairs and told me something really scary happened involving a light switch or something. I told him sorry, I can't help him, I have to find it out on my own. I guess he won't be sleeping tonight.
uboa u so nice ♥
Played this long ago, yes the fan art is odd but the game is nice. I liked most of the areas and each offered a different feeling, I higly suggest trying this out ( even more when high/tripping).
Also use this map if you cant find effects/make progress in the game( altough i'd rather prefer finding all the stuff myself)

There's like, a 1 in 60 chance of that happening. He's pretty (un?)lucky if he got that without knowing about it in the first place.
Some witch looking thing teleported me into an area with only 4 blocks of movable space. I'm sad now.

Those are called Torringen, the ones with pink eyes and tongues coming out of their mouthes will chase you and teleport you to a small area. The ones that look normal are friendly unless you stab them.
iirc there was a 3D yume nikki remake being made in goldsource. multiplayer would be pretty fun
This game is pretty odd, but fun. If you guys like this, try .flow
[sp]it's even more fucked up and stranger seriously[/sp]

fixed link to something even more fucked up
I really want to play .flow but I haven't been able to find a mac version yet.
Come on man we don't need this thread
I'm going to go try to do the Uboa thing. I have no idea what is supposed to happen. Wish me luck.
EDIT: oh god that scared me I wasn't expecting that
Yume Nikki sends chills down my spine. It's creepy, but not scary. It's really good though.

this song gives me feelings that I can't explain
Thanks for bumping my thread. I didn't want it to die already.
Are there traslated versions of the other games? like flow or yume 2ki?
I'm thinking of doing a Let's Play on this game. I need something easy to pick up to break up my mario world ROMhack parts.
Would anyone be interested in that?
