Please note that I wrote this article originally in Swedish, I later used google translate because I didn't have enough time to translate it myself. With some help of the community we managed to fix it up quite well but some errors made by google still remain.
:siren:IF YOU PREORDER NOW VIA WOLFIRE'S OWN WEBSITE YOU WILL GET INSTANT ALPHA ACCESS AND YOU WILL SUPPORT INDEPENDENT GAME DEVELOPMENT, RATHER THAN BUYING IT THROUGH STEAM. IF YOU BUY IT NOW YOU WILL, I REPEAT, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TRANSFER YOUR ORDER TO STEAM ONCE THE GAME IS RELEASED, SO PREORDER NOW AND ENJOY THE WEEKLY ALPHAS!:siren:
:siren: This game is as much furry as Disney cartoons are furry so I don't want to hear any furry acquisitions! :siren:

Wolfire, who are they?
The guys behind Overgrowth go under the name of Wolfire, they are a small indie studio based in San Francisco, California, consisting of a mere four people.
The Wolfire gang have created a completely new game engine just for Overgrowth. The Phoenix engine delivers great graphics with outstanding details, physics and smooth, realistic, animations.
An important aspect is that the engine will have great potential for modification. You will be using simple tools to make your own courses for you and your friends to explore and make new animations, costumes and objects. As you will easily be able to share with the community through their own Wolfires website, there will always be some new content, all for free. Made by players for players.

What is Overgrowth?
Unleash your wild side as you can take control of a variety of nature's prominent beasts. Forget your usual assumptions that rabbits are cute little fellas, and that a rats are fights for beginners, Overgrowth turns the world upside down as they introduce their own take on "survival of the fittest"
Overgrowth seeks to eliminate the need for frantic button mashing, which is present in many fighting games. Instead, the player is presented with a very simple control layout, but with great opportunities for experimentation. Because of the physics of the game, each kick, punch and throw is unique.
Each level that you explore you will have complete freedom and can attack your opponents however you want and develop your own strategies that suit you best.
Animations in Overgrowth are context-sensitive, procedural and physics based, which gives the characters an opportunity to move seamlessly and freely through the game world. The player has total control over how their character make it through environments. By doing parkour like movements and using agility and then combining that with a smart control layout, there's a lot of room to experiment.
Overgrowth also comes with great AI that players can fight against either by yourself or you with some friends in a collaboration mode. Where you, and your friends are fighting against the game's AI.

Some character concept art from the game.
My personal opinion:
I think the overgrowth is a fresh breeze in the rather stale fighting game genre. The game feels much more dynamic and the player has much more freedom than in other fighting games since you can use the environment to their advantage.
It is a pity how that many great indie game companies lose just because they have a small budget and therefore, have difficulty reaching out to the world. That's why I decided to write this article! For this game to be able to reach out. I'm getting paid nothing to do this, but the sheer pleasure of helping these incredible developers is reason enough - Simply put, I do it because I think they deserve it.
Important Information
You can now pre-order Overgrowth through Wolfire's website: http://www.wolfire.com/ The game is not yet ready but they are aiming for a 2010 release. If you buy the game now you get immediate access to the game's current alpha version where you can experience the game's various tools that are included. You can already start building your levels and test the engine, while the developers constantly update the game. When the game is finished, you will naturally get the complete version, and you can proudly say that you were a part of the thorough testing!
When you buy the game via their own site instead of, eg. Steam, you will help the developers even more.
Valve and other publishers usually take a large share of the money when games are sold through Steam, so by purchasing Overgrowth directionly from Wolfire they receive all the money which they can then utilize for improving the game even more!
(If you preorder now you also have the opportunity to relocate your order to Steam when the game nears release!)
The developers are consistent and post news and updates about every advance in developement, and naturally continuous updates on what they are currently working on, and pre-order customers can instantly download and experience the updates via weekly Alpha releases.
ModDB Page at which the game is updated as it happens.

I hope that, through this, I convinced some of you to check out this amazing gem of a game, and perhaps inspired you to look out for even more of these hidden treasures that are created by people much like yourself! - It is important to remember that often these developers will listen to you, as if you were one of their own.
Indie games are the best games when they usually have the newest ideas and break the mold and make things that no one else dares to go for!

I find Overgrowth quite impressive for an indie game.
It honestly looks great. I played the demo of Lugaru and absolutely loved it, so I'm hoping this will be the same.
Lugaru was awesome and this will be amazing

Yep. The video link is broken.
Also, the devs (I think) also made a pretty awesome comic. It's not finished yet, but what they have is good.

Has anyone played the alpha here? I'm quite interested in this game.
Yep. The video link is broken.
It is fixed now. I can't media tag it since FP got updated, my greasmonkey script as gone awol.
[editline]02:35PM[/editline]
Alright, the link is fixed now, for real.
This has looked good since I first saw it, will there be multiplayer?
This has looked good since I first saw it, will there be multiplayer?
There is a coop mode planned and there will hopefully be a versus mode too. If they can do coop they can most likely do that aswell but we'll see.
Lugaru fucking kicked ass, I can't wait for this one to come out.
I'm looking forward to people shitting up this topic with furry accusations. :keke:
I loved Lugaru and I've been watching this for a while, I haven't preordered yet, but I might do the Indie Preorder Pack with NS2 as well.
Lugary was awesome, this looks even better.
I might buy it. Depends whether or not it will work on my computer.

I just hope that the community won't be filled with fursuiters that go "OMG he's so yiffy ^__^" about characters, other than that I have no problems with anthropomorphic animals, they existed way before furries started fapping to them.
Hey guys, this dev is making a number two just so you know :D

I must say that this engine looks pretty sweet.

Holy fuck my hype just went up by 250%.
Also out of what I gather, this seems to be shaping up to be quite (quite might be an understatement) moddable (or at least customizable) too.
Holy shit this looks incredible
These editors own ( hint - machinima )
After watching some more videos, I must say that I'm probably more hyped for this than for nearly any other game (except for a few). This is the stuff we need to reinvigorate (or at least keep more experienced gamers interested) the gaming industry, innovations and physics (and innovative use of physics).

Yep, specially with the animation tools that comes with it, I personally can't wait to try it.

Exactly, I agree. It's getting a bit dull since most games are starting to look like eachother.
This game and the editor look quite cool actually.
I preordered this, but my computer can't run the Alphas so i'm sad :(
It looks quite good... but I'm much more interested in Natural Selection 2.
I have it preordered but where do you download the alpha tools?
