Hello. I posted a while back with a video of my mob trap and people seemed to like it, so I thought I'd make a more general purpose thread about mob traps in general. This thread is for you to ask questions, give tips, share information, and show off your traps through images or videos. It doesn't matter how simple it is, we want to see it! If you haven't made a trap before, try it! [release]Video tutorial on how to actually design your own mob trap - Today I decided to make a video on how to design your own trap. It goes through all the basics you should need to start from scratch. As long as you put some thought into it you can use only the info in this video to make a huge processing plant. Here's the map from that video: http://www.mediafire.com/?0tf3fah6tei69p4[/release] So here's some content. Some is a repeat from my older thread but here goes anyway (contentless thread gtfo) My 858 items/hour trap (not the best I've done now, will probably make a video of one of my newer ones some time) [img_thumb]http://oi55.tinypic.com/wk3gcy.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://oi54.tinypic.com/i38brr.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://oi52.tinypic.com/wbwdp4.jpg[/img_thumb] An even older trap that gets about 500 items / hour. This is based on colbycheez's trap. An image of a more recent trap I did (gets about 2500 items / hour, used mcedit) [img_thumb]http://oi55.tinypic.com/29kudmb.jpg[/img_thumb]
The killing of thousands of mobs for the advancement of one single player. Sounds good to me!
I did this a while ago: The mobs would spawn in the rooms (There were about... 11 rooms? I have no idea), the water would push them down the hole, they'd fall through the magma and die on impact. The tracks had a storage minecart on it (Minecart mania plugin, I made it on SMP) that would automatically collect the items and put them in the chest.

I wonder whether sometimes the mobs will move in the air slightly on the way down, land on a lower levels water stream, die and their items fall into the lava, that's the only thing I could see going wrong with that. Otherwise looks pretty awesome.
Usually what I do is dig a 2x3x3 hole near my house and lure creepers into it at dawn.
My design is based off of EthosLab's designs. This is the building, all the spawning rooms are below ground and the mobs are transported above ground. It's a little cramped, and a little complicated, but basically is separates the spiders into a separate killing chamber than the rest of the mobs. All mobs are killed and the drops are collected in a central point.
today i am going to create a darktower, wish me luck

You can just have a cactus trap, then a lava trap, then the other mobs just fall through the cactus trap taking no damage, and the spiders all die on it and their items flow under the lava trap later on.
It was more fun and interesting this way. Besides, I might expand it later, maybe try and get a record farmer going.
I usually have a water stream leading off a high cliff (25 blocks is insta-death from fall damage), and I box the stream in and I make a big spawning room on the cliff so i dont have to make a massive tower /incoherent
It was more fun and interesting this way. Besides, I might expand it later, maybe try and get a record farmer going.
Hmm. That's an interesting idea. You'd have to stand in a way that skeletons would try and shoot you and creepers would get in their way, which would involve having a hole between you and them, but then if creepers got too close they'd explode.
ive been meaning to build a mob trap for a while now but i havent
I spent a long time making a large building on a server, intending to turn it into a multi-floor town, but nobody has expressed any interest in it. So I have a 21x41x30ish shell with no use. What should I do with it I wonder...
I feel like making one now. To my server!
I wonder if you could have a massive platform 26 blocks up, with water sweeping the mobs into a central spot which makes them fall to their deaths
I inspired the last one didn't I?
That video should go in the Cooking section.
Mine didn't work too well
I wonder if you could have a massive platform 26 blocks up, with water sweeping the mobs into a central spot which makes them fall to their deaths
I've seen traps that do similar things. It's not very space efficient though because you need a huge area to kill them. For a fall trap you need a 26 block tall area, for a lava trap the area only needs to be like 4 blocks high or something.
I inspired the last one didn't I?
i've got one like that, but with two things different. A. it's only 60x60. B. the whole vertical water flow didn't work because i had it going east, so i had to change it a bit. C. it's 50 layers underground.
