CIV4 COMPLETE IS ON SALE ON STEAM. IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT GET IT OR I WILL COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND MESS WITH YOUR STUFF. Wikipedia because i'm a lazy whore.
Civilization IV is a turn-based game in which the player builds an empire from very limited initial resources. All standard full-length games begin in 4000 BC with a settler who builds a single city. From there, the player expands an empire while contending with rival nations, using the geography, developing infrastructure, and encouraging scientific and cultural progress. By default, players can win the game by accomplishing one of five goals: conquering all other civilizations, controlling a supermajority of the world's land and population, being the first to land a sleeper ship in the Alpha Centauri star system, increasing the Culture ratings of three different cities to "legendary" levels, or by being declared "World Leader" by winning a popularity election through the United Nations. If the game's clock runs out (by default in the year 2050 AD) with none of these goals fulfilled by any nation, the nation with the highest score is declared the winner.
The Civilization series is one of my favorite of all time. One thing to note is that a normal game of civ takes days at a time and can get very stressing as tensions rise in the world. I chose Civ 4 as it is the most recent and has more features then the others, although civ 3 is also an incredibly good game. Screens. OK, the graphics aren't the greatest. Modpacks are available to improve them. If the quality of graphics takes priority over gameplay to you, well, get out. Nukes. Medieval MODS Ok, more like MOD. At least for now. If anyone has anything for me to add, i'll add it. But I only use RoM. Rise of Mankind http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=243164 This mod adds a lot to Civ4. A LOT. It pretty much redoes the game. Hundreds of new units, new buildings, a few new civs (more with a certain modmod), new terrain, new game mechanics, new resources, new technologies, NEW GAME. Download this mod, just do it. It needs the Beyond the Sword expansion pack, by the way. Be aware that it ups the difficulty dramatically. Civilopedia An encyclopedia of knowledge in the game. It's in the game, of course, and it has been put online here. Includes all vanilla units, buildings, civs, etc. http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/civilopedia Anything I forgot, let me know.
Probably one of the best games to ever exist.
bah, humbug of a game. civ one was THE game of this series. 3 was great too. but 4 really got me cooking by having weird agricultural systems around the cities and the fact that any attempt at playing it via LAN ended in "no!"
I remember making a "huge" size game with the maximum amount of CPU players, on a 2004 computer. Needless to say, it was VERY slow. Great game though.
You know, I have Civ4 (and 3) and I have yet to get into it. I should fix that. Also, I hear Fall From Heaven II is really fucking good.
FFH is included in BTS. Might not be #2 though.
My uncle seems to think very highly of this game and one of my friends suggested I buy it too. I enjoy games like dawn of war and age of empires 2, but I'm more for games where you run around shooting people in the face. Turn based seems like too much of a jump for me.

Ahhhh! Civilization is one of the best games I've played, i have played all the civ games out. But like... TURNS!!!! I always get pissed off, somehow, that the CPU Players make these pimped out massive armies in like 3 turns, and your like only making a tank each 7 turns... Damnit!!! But its a great game once when you have learned how to play the game, and learned how to expand quickly earlier on for a later on advantage
This was a pretty good game when I played it (I don't have it anymore. My father had to give back the graphics card that had the game with it.)
You can get it for £4.99 on Play.com which is a lot cheaper than Steam. Civ 4 is a good game but the combat makes me rage so much late game and turns me off playing.

Multiplayer is only good with friends because of the huge amount of elitist jerks playing multiplayer who kick you if they don't know who you are because of some skill circle jerk. But BE WARNED this game can also ruin friendships. It's best to play as a team <3
My civilization goal is peace and harmony but i always end up declaring war and then lose. On another note, it's too easy to enter edit build mode it shouldn't be allowed during gameplay. [editline]04:59PM[/editline] Fucking barbarians
I remember playing the demo of this on my first high-end computer (high-end for 2004) and really liking the demo. So I bought it at Best Buy for $20 last week, can't wait to play it.
Fuck yeah New Roman Empire.
Just bought it, And now I'm all out of monies.
Germany w/ Bismarck all the way.

Civilization seems to make unexpected attacks by your allies unusually heartbreaking for a game.
DSHIRK launches a ICBM and it explodes!!! Best caption ever
It seems the average war ingame lasts about 400 years, that doesn't exactly seem right.
It seems the average war ingame lasts about 400 years, that doesn't exactly seem right.
Ha! I've had a war that lasted 1192 years ingame! It ended after i captured the enemy's capital, they wanted a cease fire, so like i agreed with it, but then some fucker nukes me... and then some random dude declares war on me and i lose all my shit...
Not to mention troops and stuff take a year to move out of a city.
I <3 CIV Best mods are Fall of Mankind and Fall Further
Not to mention troops and stuff take a year to move out of a city.
I wonder what else they do in that year apart from moving...
I wonder what else they do in that year apart from moving...
I imagine that hoplite you left standing around in that remote jungle just plays solitaire for thousands of years until some tank comes along and runs him over. Anyway, I've only ever had the base game, but I just bought the complete pack. Which game of the bunch do I run to play with all the content? (Or is it like some of those freaking stupid expansions of other games that are incompatible with each other)
Beyond the sword is the one you should be playing
the ai is amazing
I wish I could use the Vanilla game's title screen for Beyond the Sword. The original was beautiful and I loved the music. Beyond the Sword's menu is bland and the music is generic.
I love Civilization IV! Sadly, I rarely play it, due to One-More-Turn Syndrome :sigh:
