These two games were made in the 90s, and they were probably the birthplace of RTS/FPS hybrids [Savage, Empiresmod etc.]. The original was very well made, but the publicity was so poor, that nobody ever actually played it. It is one of the best games you've enver played, look up a demo, or a torrent if you're a bad :pirate:. I have never seen a BattleZone 1 Advertisement, that's how low the publicity was. Effectively, the spacerace to the moon was a sham. The real race was hte conquering of the galaxy, the russians and americans spread out through the cosmos, and the russians found alien artifacts and tried to destroy humanity as we know it, but the americans won, so all was good. Combat is vehicle based, with infantry only being used in worst case scenarios, but you can snipe enemy pilots out via windshield and take their vehicle, which is a nice touch. In multiplayer, the game functions under a few gamemodes, deathmatch, strategy and coop. Deathmatch is essentially maps where you spawn with a tank, and duke it out, when you die a fresh one respawns etc. Strategy is effectively an RTS with players taking the reigns of some vehicles, by default all vehicles have an obedient computer pilot, but you can order them to hop out and then take their place. Coop is effectively strategy, but with all humans [with computer pilotted tanks, there are always more bots than players] versus a computer foe. Rounds play out nicely, but the player counts are minimal, both server caps and community wise, however modern machines can probably run a high population server, whether it will fill is altogether a different question. Battlezone II is very similar to battlezone, having more publicity, I've seen 2 advertisements, the second one is fun, but they are both effectively the same game, with Battlezone II deserving v2.0 rather than a completely new game. The storyline of the second game is set later, america won, and russia has now allied themselves, but an alien race [scions] have popped up to spoil the universal peace, effectively the game revolves around destroying them. Screens: REMEMBER THIS IS AN OLD GAME. DO NOT EXPECT GOOD LIGHTING, EFFECTS, MODELS OR LEVELS That asside, it looks decent enough. Anyway, have fun!
Oh god, I fucking loved these games, I still play and mod Battlezone 2 every so often, I played BZ1 for at least a year. EDIT: Also, the Battlezone 1 pictures are really fucked up, units are not multi-coloured  Oh and yeah, get the Forgotten Enemies mod for Battlezone 2, it has a great Single-Player and Multi-Player and adds 2 new races which are awesome.
You can catch me running a BZII 1.3 every now and then ;D
I love these games, especially Battlezone 1 cause of the disco gun.
There's a RAVE gun in BzII, it's on one of the maps, but it's guarded by like 400 lightning mines that respawn...
There's a RAVE gun in BzII, it's on one of the maps, but it's guarded by like 400 lightning mines that respawn...
That's something I didn't know, I'll probably go hunting for the thing soon, also, I'll see if I can get on multi-player sometime. :D
Dude, that was the best game ever. I always loved how many planets you could blow stuff up on, and how you could always get bio-metal as the spoils of war. I also remember how hardcore the giant soviet walker thing was. Can't recall much else about it, though sniping vehicles was fun too.
That's something I didn't know, I'll probably go hunting for the thing soon, also, I'll see if I can get on multi-player sometime. :D
It's on a map surrounded by water with 4 flat topped mountains on each corner of the square island. I can't remember the name of the map, but off a coastline there will be a floating weapon crate called "RAVE" You need a vehicle with a cannon slot that hovers, and the ability to escape many lightnings. It's also got 'Those who lose to temptation, die in temptation' in the map description.
I remember playing this when I got my first computer, it was so awesome, first time I ever saw 3D graphics. Now I have battlezone on my pen drive, everytime I can I plug it in school and play.
~snip~
This game was awesome back in the day, sadly it was when i had dial up and so i never got to enjoy the multiplayer part of the game.
Oh god BZII is classic.
Fucking loved BZ I & II. Awesome memories of the first but never really finished the second!
This series=amazing. Too bad whenever I try to run BZ1, XP returns back to desktop after the first mission or whenever I try to save :(.
I love these games, except my BZ1 always ends up partially corrupt, with the bombers flying upside down when I turn on jump jets, and being hit causing the screen to go pink and green. :crying: EDIT: Those screenshots of BZ1 look like beta/N64 ones. The game looks much better in reality.
I used to play BZ1 A LOT! Didn't play BZ2 as much though, I didn't find it as good.
BZII YES! I always took my sniper on a hilln aimed at the pilot of a tank, and took ti back.
Battlezone was one of my favorite games, too bad they didn't make anymore. :(
This series=amazing. Too bad whenever I try to run BZ1, XP returns back to desktop after the first mission or whenever I try to save :(.
That also happened to me, just right-click the game's shortcut, go to properties - compatibility and set it to Windows 95.
That also happened to me, just right-click the game's shortcut, go to properties - compatibility and set it to Windows 95.
Alright, I'll give that a try when I install it again.
When I saw this thread, I was like, "SOMEONE'S PLAYED IT :O!"
I own both but I don't own any BZ1 expansion packs and they all looked awesome. BZII was the shit though, Scions vs Humans I think, story makes a huge plot twist halfway through
That's something I didn't know, I'll probably go hunting for the thing soon, also, I'll see if I can get on multi-player sometime. :D
Or you could just use the one that spawns in the base in the first level. :v:
Or you could just use the one that spawns in the base in the first level. :v:
That's BattleZone 1, not 2
Yeah, it's really difficult to get the original BZ1 disk working. Now this company called XPLOSIV is selling some. It's a bright orange disk with an updated version of BZ1 on it, and it works fine on my computer. I still prefer BZ2 though. It was the first FPS I ever played that used the WSAD keys. Back in that day, I played DooM 2 and Hexen 2. Oh those were the days. I had a four person Hexen LAN party with my friends once. I thought it was so awesome that a whole four people could connect computers.
Battlezone 2 was probably one of the BEST games I have ever played in my entire life.
this game OWNS
I fucking loved the battlezone games. I think they need to make a third. God, so many fun times playing that. I loved sniping the enemy's vehicles and then taking them. Especially the walkers.
You can't snipe enough stuff in BZII, absolutely terrible. Maulers, Attilas, Scavengers even! Completely immune to the uber sniper of doom. Ammo regen needs buffing too, it's pretty god damn shitty.
BZ2 was awesome. I never beat it and had at least two original copies of it. Perhaps I'll finish it one day. It's been on my mind as of late.
