• Why Everquest II is still a great alternative to WOW

Well, this was an interesting read. EQ2 was out of sight out of mind for so long, I was surprised that it was still running! http://www.thekartel.com/thegreatone/blog/2010/02/11/5_reasons_why_everquest_ii_is_still_a_great_alternative_to_world_of_warcraft My personally feeling is that the game was never that bad, it just came out around WOW. Not to mention, by creating a sequel, SOE then ended up splitting the user base into 2, as many people stuck to EQ 1.
eq2 was alright I just felt there was too much drastic change from each zone with no smooth transition, for instance, some random forest type zone and you load to the other beside it and theres giant mushrooms and fairy things. same with the ice/lava zone. It felt like they tried to have every possible type of zone they could think of but implement them stupidly. magic carpet
It isn't really stupid, the areas are like that because instead of having the same old shit and same old transitions you got environments that are never a like. EQ was the same way, just a unique art style they have.

It's my only gripe about the game though. Probably only MMO where I actually liked playing a paladin too. oh wait, my main gripe was the shitting kingdom of sky bullshit, that place can fuck off, I hated that place so much i quit.
Is it free to play?
No, it isn't Wally.
I remember this big swampy area. I made it to the end. I ended up quitting because the giant tree boss scared the piss out of me.
woah woah WOAH! this game still exist?
It's not Everquest 1, it's Everquest 2, and it has been out since 2006. So that's not so long. If you thought it was EQ1, yes. EQ1 is also still out, it's been online since 1999 and is still making expansions. :)
I played for a little bit of a while. But, it was way too complex beyond my composition so I quit... If I had the space for it on my harddrive and the money for the fees, I'd probably go back to it...

No wonder it's called Evercrack. it's addicting
I want to play Everquest 2 again...think I might make a barbarian bruiser or a shadowknight.
inb4 WoW fanboys coming in here saying WoW is the best game ever and everquest is just a shitty copy you know they're loading the page now, better run
inb4 WoW fanboys coming in here saying WoW is the best game ever and everquest is just a shitty copy you know they're loading the page now, better run
Doubt it, i bet at least half of them don't even know that EQ exists.
I've been thinking about giving eq2 another go but then realise the zones were practically half dead the last time I played in 2006. :sigh:
Idk, i think WOW is a much better game, since they regularly update wow, and becuase of the fact that everquest is starting to die
ok but what if get this neither game is worth your time
Idk, i think WOW is a much better game, since they regularly update wow, and becuase of the fact that everquest is starting to die
EQ does get up dated and it isn't dying. It has a 10x the content of WoW and they're still pushing out expansions.
EQ does get up dated and it isn't dying. It has a 10x the content of WoW and they're still pushing out expansions.
I'm sold.
EQ does get up dated and it isn't dying. It has a 10x the content of WoW and they're still pushing out expansions.
When I tried the trial a year ago it was so empty and dead. Idunno, It's like when I played vangaurd, there was barely anyone anywhere.
When I tried the trial a year ago it was so empty and dead. Idunno, It's like when I played vangaurd, there was barely anyone anywhere.
That is the main drawback with EQ1/2, the early zones are dead, you might rarely see someone levelling but compared to others It's practically barren. It doesn't give a good impression. The game is quite solid though.
Jesus, isn't there any tweaks to make this game run faster? It's crippling my decent system on even the lowest settings.
No idea, used to run it on a AMD 3200+, 2gb and 6800GT on mostly low. Anything somewhat modern should have little problems on anything but max.
When I tried the trial a year ago it was so empty and dead. Idunno, It's like when I played vangaurd, there was barely anyone anywhere.
Yeah, the very early zone are dead. Once you get passed that it gets pretty good. It may look dead, but everyone else is in other zones. To much fucking content it is unreal. Also vanguard is shit, it is a failed mmo. It was riddled with so many bugs and was horribly optimized that everyone that started it quit. All this talk of EQ2, really, really, makes me want to go back to it.
There's a re roll guild that has recently started on I forgot which server, I'll go look in a sec but I'm gonna try the trial to see how things are right now. On everfrost. Want an MMO to play but most just seem shit recently. I only quit EQ2 because of the kingdom of sky expansion as I hated that zone. holy shit what bullshit client did I download, it downloads each zone as you load into them
I might try the trial for this. Unfortunately SOE MMOs seem to have a tendency to exempt you from the free period when you buy the game if you've used the trial. Is it the same for this?

I'm calling off MMOs myself until I see something inexpensive. for the moment, I am staying with Dofus.
I got a few invites for EQ2 that i can send out to people, it is a 14 day trial. Anyway, i only want to give these trials out to people who are seriously considering buying the game. The only reason i say that is because these invites are a bit different then your standard invite. With this one you get a few in-game items to help get you started. Redeem These Exciting Rewards In Game: Green Journeyman Cloak - Wear the cloak during your travels to receive a run speed increase of 25%. Potion Pack Bundle (3) - Receive an adventure, achievement and/or tradeskill experience increase of 10% for four (4) hours when consumed. "The Great Challenge" - Progress to level 20 within fourteen (14) calendar days from your initial log in date and receive an in-game title sent from the leader of your chosen alignment. Legends of Norrath™ - Download the free game client and receive a starter pack and booster pack for the EverQuest franchise-based online trading card game. Keep the Game Free of Charge, Receive a complimentary digital copy of the game when you convert your trial account to a paid monthly subscription of EQII. The Rise of Kunark starter pack includes four (4) expansion packs and three (3) adventure packs. Basically when you go from a trial to the subscription you get the add-ons for free. Also as a disclaimer i don't play at this moment so i will not be able to join you and help you. You would be on your own. Anyway, if you serious about joining the game let me know via pm. The game has a good tutorial level anyway, and can keep you busy till lvl 5-9.
