I am ,of course, talking about Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. I have never played any of them, but i have played Fallout 3 and it was one of the best games I have ever played. My question is, if I loved fallout 3, will I love the original three? I understand that they have completely different gameplay styles and and were developed by a different company. But I want to know if they have the same overall feeling that fallout 3 had.
Hey I love your threads already

Well they differ in gameplay and the view is isometric
If you loved Fallout 3, you might just find the first three games tiresome, slow and unrewarding - especially Fallout 2 which throws you in at the deep end with regards to combat. However beneath the primitive exteriors of each game is a large, diverse world full of things to do on the way to saving Vault 13 / Arroyo / the Brotherhood of Steel. There aren't as many random dungeons in FO1 and 2 but there are more settlements with more quests than Fallout 3.
Tactics is more versatile when it comes to combat and while it lacks dialogue and interactivity between starting one-way conversations or shooting people, fighting with a diverse squad is a great improvement on fighting alone or with brainless NPC allies.
I myself got them, but Im a bit busy these days. I started it (1) and shut it off, its kinda slow. At first. IM SURE that if I played more I would get into the game and it would be much funner, but I just didnt have the time. SO if you have a decent amount of free time I would definitely say give it a try!
I played 2 before 3 but, even if I am in a nuclear Wasteland, I wouldn't like to be killed at the end of the training mission and for my first quest to involve waiting with a herd of Brahmin before being raped by...I can't even remember what it was. I can see why it's a good game, I just never got into it.

because it's not all run-n-gun like fallout 3, it's about strategy also.
they're completely unrelated, I loved Fallout 1&2 and to me 3 is just oblivion with guns

also the endboss in Fallout can be killed by telling him a paradox, how cool is that

so in fallout 3
well one of the most important bosses
It depends if you have the patience for turn based combat or not.

It is pretty true though, same engine, same shitty melee combat.
Replace bows with guns, add a few more types, done, fallout 3.
Not that fallout 3 was a bad game, it just wasn't as well in depth and enveloping as oblivion or morrowind. I'd be glad they call it oblivion with guns because that would be a complement.

neither oblivion of fallout 3 where anywhere near as in depth as morrowind.
Not even close.

By that logic, Portal is Half-Life 2 with a Portal gun instead of a gravity gun and every game made on the Unreal Engine is just a re-skinned Unreal.

Reminds me of what they tried to do when they were first developing the game. They took a bow an arrow and tried to make it rapid fire it failed horribly.

I know that, I didn't try to rambo everything I came across, it was just very very unforgiving :S

That's 90's/80's gaming for you. *cough*Ghouls 'n Ghosts*cough*
Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics have a different style of gameplay than 3. They play more like a classic RPG with a turn based system. In the classic Fallout games, the skills really do matter, so if you have only 30 points in energy weapons and you try to use them, than you screwed. Also, it can seem a little slow in the beginning but eventually, it'll get better as you get better equipment. If you have the time, than I strongly suggest that you play these games.

Not technicaly because I could create fallout 3 with a few hacky bits of code and slap it together with e-staples and e-tape.
It's the games feel also, portal didn't feel like hl2, because it had a great story, voice, everything elss that gave it depth.
Fallout 3 felt like oblivion, with guns, it's really that simple.
Their only really fun if you've played them before, I found my frist run very boring in one and two.
If you grew up using consoles playing brainless, instant-gratification, mediocre games and awful ports from the PC, you won't enjoy Fallout or Fallout 2.
I never played Tactics, so I won't comment on it.

To you and some others it did. But to an equal amount of people, it felt completely different.
It depends on how much you look at Fallout 3 as a sequel to the others and how much you look at it as a game that might be good.
Nothing, NOTHING in this world gives you a better feeling than pulling out a submachine gun and blowing off a guys head, arm and a large part of his ribcage.

Tactics is cool, until you meet robots. Overall, it's an okay game. It's poor man's Jagged Allience. My favourite Fallout game is the first one. It has dark humour, dark atmosphere/theme, cleverly placed factions - you can be a bad guy for real. I remember the first time when I saw Dr. Who's cabine, the TARDIS. I didn't know anything about the series at the time (now, I'm a big fan of the franchise)
One of the main reasons i liked fallout was the way it didnt treat you nicely when you where at a low level. In FO3, enemies are scaled, meaning you won't meet anything you cant handle.
Fallout?
"nooblings? in MY desert?" *radscorpion spam.
Its tense when you know that at any moment, you could die, whereas FO2 just lets you spam stimpacks and quicksaves.
I love Fallout 3 and tried to play Fallout 1 but couldn't really get into it. I might try it again though.

Is there something wrong with a smaller Oblivion with guns? Fallout DC is a few miles long, while Cyrodiil is a damn country, and as boring as trekking across one.
Yeah there is something wrong with it, its not supposed to be Oblivion, it supposed to be Fallout.
