I need some tips for mapping inside the citadel... most of it is ok but not like the hl2 citadel.
Please Help :(
wrong forum.
Valve makes great maps, because they make them realistic.
Notice how 80% of the map is junk props. They give it a human feeling.
Everything from the pointless books at barney's office, to picking up that can.
You want your map to have that human feeling that you aren't the first to walk there, but that the place has excisted and been used for ages.
Do big awkward spaces that are unnatural for humans, and use lots of long vertical metal brushes.
Lighting also is a very important part in letting combine architecture look right.
Just look at how valve has done theirs, most of the time they only light up a few spots in an area using bright spotlights while leaving other spots in darkness/ barely lit up. Ceilings are hidden in darkness a lot too.

Don't forget the true floors, they're always encased in darkness.
Thanks but how do i fill up a citadel room so it doesnt have empty spaces?(Like if i used all the combine props) and i mean a small interface room.
Try making the room "different", I noticed that most of the unfilled hallways and places always have something bigger to look at (IE far away thing) also tight small spaces seem to be diagonal.
Make it feel uncomfortable to be in the place, if you want a good ambience. Use architecture that instills discomfort (using unusual room shapes, strange angled ceilings) etc, because it is not meant to be a place for humans.
Also, make it feel like you are trespassing while there.
