[release] Roblox FAQ
Q: What is Roblox?
A: "ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop — where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It's unique in that practically everything in this infinite playground is designed and constructed by individual members of the ROBLOX community.
Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects.
Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything desired — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer "Capture the Flag" game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up object or activity.
By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars ("ROBUX"). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms."
Q: What can you do in Roblox?
A: "ROBLOX members can choose to play and create alone or, with the help of personal and customizable avatars, they can choose to be social and engage with others. Members can explore the world with their avatars, meet and communicate with other members, visit other member-created environments, and collaborate with others on projects."
Q: What's the object of the game?
A: "There are no pre-defined goals in ROBLOX. The focus is largely on creative and open-ended play. However, there are numerous member-created games — both solo and multiplayer — from head-to-head bobsledding to multiplayer paintball."
Q: Why did we create ROBLOX?
A: "We are passionate about creating meaningful experiences that ignite the imagination and engage the mind.
There are many online sites for kids. However, most of these sites are focused primarily on helping kids socialize and play games. We wanted to build something more — a place that not only satisfies kids' social and entertainment needs but that also satisfies kids' hunger for creativity and learning."
Q: Who is ROBLOX for?
A: "ROBLOX is designed for 8-18 year olds, but it is open to kids of all ages."
Q: How is ROBLOX educational?
A: "We believe in the theory that kids learn best by making things — by engaging in the creative and complex process of imagining, designing, and constructing. Provide them with a safe place to build, give them the requisite tools, and let them play.
We're particularly inspired by the educational theory pioneered by Seymour Papert of the MIT Media Lab. This theory — labeled "Constructionism" — holds not only that kids learn best when they are in the active roles of designer and builder, but that their learning is optimized when they're assuming these roles in a public forum.
This makes good sense to us — particularly after observing some of our members who know that the fruits of their labor may be seen, critiqued, and used by others. These are motivated kids who become deeply engaged with building complex structures and solving difficult problems. Their level of creativity, the amount of time and care spent building, and the extent and high quality of their discourse never fails to astonish us."
Q: Does it cost anything to join ROBLOX?
A: "Anyone can enjoy ROBLOX free of charge, but they won't have the same privileges as paying members.
For example, kids whose parents sign them up for the Builders Club will be given the ability to build and manage multiple environments. They'll also be given the ability to purchase premium items in the ROBLOX catalog that enable greater (i.e. cooler!) customization of both their avatars and their interactive creations. Finally, Builders Club members will no longer be exposed to on screen advertisements.
Builders Club memberships start at $5.95 per month. (That's less than 20 cents per day!) Lower rates are available for 6-month and year-long subscriptions."
Q: How do I sign my child up for Builders Club?
A: "Click on the Builder's Club menu button on the home page to start the step-by-step process (or start the process right now by clicking here).
If your child already has an account on ROBLOX the process is straightforward. You'll simply need to sign in to his or her account to complete the enrollment process.
If your child doesn't already have an account, you'll need to set her or him up with a username and a temporary password."
Q: Games and Points
A: "Members are recognized and earn rewards for their level of participation, the quality and popularity of their creations, and for their community spirit. Rewards range from specialty badges, to site-wide promotion of member-created content, to actual ROBLOX currency ("ROBUX") that can be redeemed in the ROBLOX catalog for avatar accessories and premium construction materials."

OK, so a lot of people hate Roblox. I don't blame you. I play Roblox when I'm extremely bored, and I usually stay away from multiplayer and build random things in Studio. The reason why I don't hate Roblox is that it's actually a pretty good game, except for the community. It's also pretty decent for a free lego-like sandbox game. Now that we have the FAQ out of the way, let's move on to something more interesting.
[release]User-Made Items
In Roblox, there are is a page called Catalog. In this catalog, you can take things that people are giving away for free, and you can purchase things made by users or by Roblox. To buy anything, you'll need virtual money. Here's some information on Roblox's currency.
Roblox's Currency
Here is some helpful information on currency.
Tickets (Tix for short): "Robloxian Tickets are similar to tickets you win in an arcade. You play the game, get tickets, and are rewarded with fabulous prizes. Tickets are granted to citizens who are helping to expand and improve Robloxia. The primary way to get tickets is to make a cool place, and then get people to visit it. You can also get the daily login bonus, just by showing up!"
Robux (RS for short) "ROBUX are the principle currency of Robloxia. Citizens in the Builders Club receive a daily allowance of ROBUX to help them live a comfortable life of leisure. For this and other benefits, consider joining Builders Club! Alternately, you can purchase ROBUX using our secure payment system."
There is also a section in Catalog called Trade Currency!; here you can enter an amount of Tix which is then transfered to Robux. Or you can enter an amount of Robux for Tix. Here's an image to give you a better idea:

What You Can Buy/Take In The Catalog
Here's a list of everything you can buy or take in the catalog.

Heads (The shape of your player's head)

Faces (Change what your player's face looks like)

Gear (Weapons, drinks, food, fireworks, etc.)

Hats (A hat that your player can wear in-game)

T-Shirts (Upload an image and it will be a T-Shirt your player can wear)

Shirts (Builders Club members can use an editor to make shirts and sell them)

Pants (Builders Club members can use an editor to make pants and sell them)

Packages (Packages of special clothing)

Decals (Upload an image, wait for a mod to allow it, and you can use it in Roblox Studio)

Models (When you build something in Roblox Studio, you can group it all together. After grouping it you can upload it as a model)
I hope this helps you with user-made items.

[release] Places
As I said before, places are Roblox's form of levels. You build in Roblox Studio then when you publish it, it shows up in Places.
A few months ago Roblox had decided to improve the Games page (where you can join a server hosting someone's place). Before they improved it, we could only see popular maps, and maps by date (weeks and months). Now they have browsing by popularity, time, and genre. Here is a list of genres for Roblox games.
Genres

Town and City

Medieval

Sci-Fi

Ninja

Horror

Pirate

Adventure

Sports

LOL

Wild West

Modern Military

Skate Park

Tutorial
I'm impressed with the Wild West themed levels people have made. There are also Obbys (obstacle courses), Tycoons, and more. If you want to take the risk of joining and raging, go ahead.

This is all for now, I'll edit the OP later with more information and other things.
Used to play this all the time, now I play Minecraft :v:
Should be V2, there already was a thread.
It's a Blockland ripoff.
It's a Blockland ripoff.
Though similar, it all depends what you're wanting.
Social networking, and easy scripting? go roblox.
An actual game with endless moddability? blockland.
It's a Blockland ripoff.
They're both multiplayer games themed around lego type stuff, it's not like that's a super specific copyrightable idea. Neither is a ripoff of the other.
I remember this being kinda boring but I see some awesome looking game modes, I've also remembered destructible buildings!
Is it possible to host servers? We need one for Facepunch.
I made a thread already, but it died really fast. I think we got to 5 pages.
Good luck.
I don't know how you built and stuff.
I remember that game.
its a 6 year old playground.
Completely serious.
Blockland is better in every way.
Isn't this some trolling madhouse?

I used to play this game, but eventually the lag became unbearable.
Also, apparently the developers play Team Fortress 2.

Look at the description.

I enjoy Blockland more, but the community has some similar issues.
http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Blockland
Blockland is way better due to the fact its not a game meant for 5 year olds.
Blockland is way better due to the fact its not a game meant for 5 year olds.
Well they said Roblox was designed for ages 8-18 but it's still populated by younger kids. I tried Blockland, it was OK, except I like the way Roblox is. I've been playing for Minecraft but the community sucks there too, just idiots flying around the map deleting everything.
Blockland is way better due to the fact its not a game meant for 5 year olds.
They're both for five year olds except Blockland has a smaller community and some members happen to be older
It's a Blockland ripoff.
They were both made in the same year.
