• Something funny just happened to me in Red Orchestra...

So I was just playing Red Orchestra, on one of the maps (Beridino, Berenzia, I forget which one), and the following event is what took place towards the begining of a match. Because I had failed to make a lasting impression on the German advance in the previous rounds, I decided to change tactics. Instead of charging straight in and firing from the hip with my LMG (which is an excellent way to get yourself killed for nothing (Hey, I've been playing a lot of MW2 lately, gimme a break!)), I decided to use my head. I went with a class that would give me a submachinegun (the precursor to the PPSH41, called the DDPsomething-or-other), and decided to try a flanking attack. Things went well mostly, I ran in a wide circle, and the Germans gave me little fire, consumed with their determination to charge straight in (a prime example of the games superb AI) and die a glorious death. This enabled me to infiltrate their trench system with minimal fuss. I ran around to the back, and then circled about and started to work my way up to the rear of their column. I came upon a fair-sized squad (five of six men) gathered in a bend in the trench who didn't appreciate finding a Commie behind them when I should have been in front of them, screaming in terror. I had a good amount of time to react, as most of them had rifles (good for medim to long range, but they were idiots who hadn't fixed-bayonets before going into battle). It also helped that the only one with an MP40 was on the other side of the group. I started firing from the hip, while they actually decided to bring their sights up, which, surprisingly, actually hastened their demise. They knocked my SMG from my grasp with a (un?)lucky shot, causing me to automaticaly switch to my grenade. Figuring I was screwed, I decided to toss it at them. Since I was still alive after tossing it, I went and tossed my second grenade, for the heck of it. When they went off, corpses and weapons scattered in all directions that the trench allowed, and the proximity of the explosions made me think it had killed me as well. So I stood their patiently for about 5-10 seconds, waiting to respawn. I got bored quickly. I decided to get a birds-eye view of things, and looked up and pressed the forward key to accomplish just that. When I did that, I moved forward as if I were still alive. :derp: Laughing at myself, I went over to where my weapon lay, and picked it up to continue the fight. I walked over the corpses of my enemies (Who dosn't at some point or another?), and pulled myself out of the trench to continue my plan of attack. I was promptly hit in the back of the head by a lucky/experienced rifleman. So there's my story, enjoy!
Well nice story, but mulitplayer that's where it's at. I don't think you could manage this online.
I haven't played it in a while, so I decided to get back in shape with a nice botmatch.
Well, the AI isn't very challenging. A shame that there aren't a lot of servers.
Damn, makes me wish I'd bought Red Orchestra. Er, interesting story though.
Well, why don't you buy it? It's only few bucks. Totally worth it.
Well, why don't you buy it? It's only few bucks. Totally worth it.
Is it? Hmm. Almost got it during the Holiday Sale, but Steam stop accepting my Paypal so I couldn't be bothered. As soon as this ridiculously slow Steam UI Beta update is done, I'll do that. Thread has earned RO another buy, my God.
Never got this game, would you recommend it?
Use your sights, man. You are not a cowboy shooting from the hip.
Hey, I was at almost point blank range there! A few yards at most!
lol gnade, Relevant.
