Please, this is a serious thread. Do not start with the.. do I even have to say it?
Okay, hey guys. I've owned 2 xbox 360's in my lifetime, both outlasting their 3 year warranty, so I got my use out of them, you could say. The problem is, instead of just buying another 360 like I did last time, now both of the consoles cost the same price.
The 360 slim and the PS3 slim are both $299, the question is, which one should I purchase? (Before trying to answer this, read the entire OP)
I've played a fair share of PS3, and I must say I like it. The free online play, internet browser, better (though not a lot better) performance, and the Blu-Ray are all features that catch my eye.
Still, stopping me from getting one of those bad boys, is the xbox and it's features: Zune, Netflix, DLC-exclusives, My Gamertag(so much time in that), the controllers, and the plethora of DLC.
I'd say the controller is one of the main reasons I've not just upped and got a PS3, but the reason I haven't gotten another 360 is because I've had most there is to have with it. Even so, LBP2 looks intensely awesome, but Kinect looks like something I could play around with for a while.
Which system would you recommend, based purely on fact and/or experience?
I know I won't get a definite answer, that's not what I'm looking for, I'm looking for recommendations, instances where you loved your console, etc.
Thanks
here's an example of what not to post please:

Give me reasons.

What are you looking for in a console? Media? Online play? Is cost an issue?

Go with the PS3. We are getting xbox-like content soon with Playstation Plus.

I don't really have any super specific preferences, but I'm looking more for gameplay than the other stuff.
PS3 is great, really depends on what your friends have though. Like all my friends have PS3's so I went with that.

What kind of games do you play? Your favorite genres? Online or offline?
Ignore all of the straight up "LOL PS3" and "LOL XBOX" answers until you put some more info out there.
Yeah I've owned 3 Xbox 360's and 3 PS3's.. I enjoy the Playstation a lot more, but that's just me.
PS3 will save you $$$ in the long run, unless you pay for that gay Playstation Plus bullshit. People are nice on PS3, compared to a bunch of mean people on the 360 multiplayer. IMO Playsation has better exclusives like Little Big Planet, Killzone, Socom, MotorStorm, and Uncharted.
And kinect is over hyped. And all consoles now have Netflix, including Wii and PS3,
[editline]12:42AM[/editline]
But both console have their ups and downs. And the internet doesn't lag on PS3 like xbox people say, it depends on what YOUR internet is like and what the Host's internet is like, if it is a game where a client hosts the match.
Huhhh... How many games do you own for your xb360? If you own quite a bit, that may be a reason to go with it again. And how about your friend list? Any real friends on there that would give more reason to have another xb? Also, controllers aren't much of a problem, you can buy a XB360 controller thats 'remapped' to be just like a PS3's layout so that it's more comfortable... just the button picture on games may be different.
I personally haven't used a PS3, so I'm not gonna bash on it or anything. Have you taken the time to see any present or future game releases that may interest you that may be exclusive to certain consoles...?

Ps3 if you want blu ray movies. Xbox 360 if you want HD movies.
I think it depends on what your friends have if your a social guy. I own an Xbox 360, but I'd prefer a PS3, because it's got free online, better graphics, and more exclusives (360 has like, one exclusive now, Halo series?). I also wouldn't use Kinect as a feature.

I'm quite open minded, but strategy, shooters, sandbox and some platformers are my favorites.

I forgot about that, I own about 10 of them, a wireless headset, extra controller and the charger for the battery packs. Those would all go to waste if I bought a PS3. Hmm. Is it worth it for the new experience.. Ahhh!
[editline]12:56AM[/editline]
The friends issue isn't that large of an issue with me, since most of my friends have stopped playing xbox games as much as me. (sadly)

I am pretty competitive when it comes to gaming, and also for some reason, I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but when I play the 360 I feel like it's for a purpose, but when I play the ps3 I feel otherwise. I think it's the way the live community is set up. But I want something new so badly.
This has definitely become a daunting decision.
PS3 prides themselves off with 'betar gfx LOLZ', but really it's just bloom and upped contrast.
I personally recommend the X360, controls are pretty easy to pick up, developers like to produce for it because Microsoft gives them handjobs with paper bill, and it has plenty of features.
After going over the pro's and con's of each in this thread and in my head, I've just decided to stick with the 360, after all, it has provided me with years of fun already, and I've got a lot of history with it (including the $100's of merchandise that would go to waste). I guess I will have to miss out on the ps3, at least for a while.
I think xbox 360 only supports 720p while ps3 supports 1080p
Controls are better on the 360 but the PS3 has better exclusives, free online play, and a more friendly community.. in my experience at least.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Microsoft's dev-handjob money comes out of your pocket.
[QUOTE=luck_or_loss;23222675]I think xbox 360 only supports 720p while ps3 supports 1080p[/QUOTE]
nop
360 goes up to 1080p, just if the dev wants it to be upscaled or not, same with the ps triple

If that's the only reason that you want a 360, then you can trade in some games for money off on a PS3 at EB games.
[editline]10:57PM[/editline]
And if you have finite money, you might wanna go with the PS3, since the slim versions of both cost about the same, and you have to pay for Live on xbox.
You should buy a Xbox slim. It has 250 GB, is quieter and is small.
[QUOTE=TheSpy;23222123]Ps3 if you want blu ray movies. Xbox 360 if you want HD movies.[/QUOTE]
Que? Where you high when you wrote that? Blu-Ray is HD. Intact I expect it to be a higher definition in terms of audio quality than the 360 on demand movies (streaming uncompressed audio is a fucking nightmare sometimes, so the 360 probably uses some compression).
OP, if you are looking for a full media centre, but don't want to pay stupid money. While still being able to enjoy gaming, g for the PS3. In my opinion the exclusives are far superior and multi platform games are now exactly the same. Though the online can be clunky from time to time, it does work well.
Don't have much of an opinion on the 360 really, I don't have one.
I was in the same situation a month or two ago, I decided to go with the PS3 and I can say I am very glad I did, the games are just on a whole new level of fun in comparison to alot of 360 Exclusives. I had a boatload of extras for my 360 but I felt I got my use out of them so it wasn't a waste of extra cash.
Playstation has the better service but Xbox has for the most part better performance when running multiplatform games. However the PS3 also has arguably the best selection of console exclusives.
If it were me I'd pick the Playstation
[QUOTE=XxLiquidxX;23222026]PS3 will save you $$$ in the long run, unless you pay for that gay Playstation Plus bullshit. People are nice on PS3, [/QUOTE]
PSN+ will save you even more since you get over $200 of games for free or with a discount.

OP already answered, I guess you could stop posting here now or continue the [for now] peaceful argument
Go for PS3, you're gonna enjoy it much longer.
