On average between audio and video any given youtube video of reasonable quality will be about 30 mb to stream the entire thing. If you're posting a 20+ MB gif of something that encompasses like 5 seconds of footage, you may as well just post a youtube video. While clearly there's no set rule, try to keep gifs under 10mb, prefarrably 5mb because 5 mb is comparable to any large .jpg or .png file. Spos' you could always make exceptions for really awesome/hilarious gifs that are worth the 20+ mb, but if its just some "look at these god rays in this 30mb gif" then don't fucking post it, you're just being bothersome to people with shitty ISPs (ie: canadians) Protips: - You can crop .gif files in vdub. If nothing interesting is happening in 80% of the gif, you may as well just crop it down to the focal point of the image. The other 80% is just wasted pixels. - You can change the framerate of the gif to something smaller. Sure 60 fps is nice and smooth but you're effectively multiplying your filesize by 3x for little gain. - Open .gifs in GIMP/PS as they have more efficient options for saving them that will cut down the filesize by a good 30%. For example here's an "optimized" verison of one of those gifs. There's a 4 MB difference between them for some pretty minor changes. You'd be cutting off about 10-12 mb from that post all together. (not directing this specifically at you dsi1, just a general example) Original Optimized

How to make quick .gifs: GIS Edition Whatchu need: -An input video in .avi format (FRAPS is what I use for game capture) -VirtualDub Whatchu do: I'm going to go ahead and assume you already have your video file in .avi format. If not, Google something called SUPER and get it into an .avi container. With both VDub and your .avi video file at the ready, open up the VDub application (Veedub64 in my case) and you'll be greeted with a nice window that looks like this: [t]http://i5.minus.com/in2wGy.jpg[/t] Can't do shit with this, so now what you want to do is take your video file and drag it into the VDub window, so now you'll have something like this: [t]http://i3.minus.com/inyg0y.jpg[/t] If you're like me and you are recording fullscreen, you'll want to see both your input and output file so you can review how the .gif is going to come out. To resize the video you're seeing, right click the frame and select something managable like 50%: [t]http://i5.minus.com/in2yO6.jpg[/t] As you can see in the shot above, there are now actually two frames on the screen. The one on the left (that you just resized to see the right one) is the video based on the input file. The one on the right is what you'll be seeing when you export your .gif. Keep this in mind as you work around. Now that you have the program set up alright, it's time to get down to the .gif making. There are three main buttons that will help you when creating a .gif in VDub: Home End Delete Home is used to start a selection, End is used to stop the selection, and Delete will delete the selection. If you're deleting from the beginning of your .avi file, you don't need to start the selection with Home, simply create the endpoint by pressing End. In order to get finer control over which frames you're deleting, use the left and right arrow keys to go frame by frame. This can also be used to delete any duplicated frames, but be warned, as this can cause unwanted speed artifacts when you compile the .gif. When you have narrowed down the area you wish to make a .gif of, it's time to make it reasonable enough to fit on the web. To do this, we're gonna have to resize and/or crop the frame. At the top of VDub, select Video>Filters. Then, select Add and scroll down to the Resize filter. [t]http://i3.minus.com/inx6mo.jpg[/t] Because I'm using such a large native resolution, I usually choose a relative size of 25%. You can use any size that you choose, but remember that .gifs can get very large very fast and you don't want people having to load a 20MB .gif of your dancing elf in WoW. You should notice now that the right frame has decreased in size: [t]http://i3.minus.com/inx4eg.jpg[/t] This is good, as now you have a full feature preview of what your .gif will look like. If it's not looking good, you can go back to Video>Filters, select the Resize filter and then the "Cropping..." option to make it fit snug. Once you're done with all this, go to File>Export>Animated GIF. Make sure you have selected "Infinite loop" or else the .gif will stop short. [t]http://i5.minus.com/in1M2o.jpg[/t] Then, find the location you want to save it and hit Save. There you go, now you should have a .gif that you can upload to your site of choice and share with the world (aka this thread). If you have any questions, just ask. You can also make .gifs in some versions of Photoshop (I have CS4 and can), but there are tutorials all over the place for that, so I won't make one of those.

A simple way to get FXAA in your screenshots (even in the game doesn't support it) if you happen to have Photoshop AND an NVidia GPU is to go to the control panel and force FXAA on for Photoshop.exe Then you open up your screenshot, press 'TAB' to hide your tools and 'F' a couple of times to hide the rest of the interface. Make a screenshot OF the screenshot (with PrntScrn) and just press Ctrl+V. Do this a couple of times and voilá - free AA! You can do this an infinite amount of times, but you start losing quality because of the way FXAA works. Don't forget to turn off FXAA in your PS after that. Here's how it looks with three passes of FXAA:
The Archive v1 - v2 - v3 - v4 - v5 - v6 - v7 - v8 - v9 - v10 - v11 - v12 - 'You are here' Content M&B Warband: [t]http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/127269381-4.jpg[/t] NFS:The Run: [t]http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/124875205-4.jpg[/t] NFS: Shift 2 [t]http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/124290652-4.jpg[/t] NecroVision: [t]http://i.minus.com/iQZUPxJDH5VWQ.jpg[/t]

Oh come on, I thought we got over this last thread. I even changed the rules to suit that. Why are you posting those uncompressed PNGs again? Absolute same screenshot, no discernible loss of quality, 6 times smaller: [t]http://i.minus.com/i9VZijjcykycP.jpg[/t]
Oh come on, I thought we got over this last thread. I even changed the rules to suit that. Why are you posting those uncompressed PNGs again?
Sorry, I didnt see the new rule.
Sorry, I didnt see the new rule.
It has always been a rule - common sense. There's literally no reason in the universe to post uncompressed PNGs.
Who gives a shit, it's 2013, it's a media thread, don't come in here if you're on a 56k And converting every single screenshot into a 100% quality jpeg (which still isn't lossless by the way) takes too much effort Have a 3.3MB .png
It takes literally 20 seconds to convert it and there is no visible difference.
I don't mind load times, but just don't post a wall of .bmp/.gif/.png images that are 6MB each and makes people's browser hang trying to scroll past.
in a thread about showing off how extreme and high quality you can get your graphics, you're complaining about people posting pictures that are large in resolution/filesize? come again?
in a thread about showing off how extreme and high quality you can get your graphics, you're complaining about people posting pictures that are large in resolution/filesize? come again?
No, in a thread about sharing ingame media with others, I'm complaining about posting ridiculously large images FOR LIKE NO REASON WHAT SO EVER. As I said about 5 times already - a max quality JPG is absolutely the same except people with slow internet speeds don't need to wait a minute for a single image to load. It's not my internet speed, it's principle. If there's no difference, WHY do it? I'm really surprised at how people are reacting. Last time, everyone was polar opposite: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1212445&page=128

Which technically, it's not, but it effectively is and for this thread is probably all we need.

It's Misery mod. So difficult, but it's the best way to play Stalker. I feel more like I'm surviving the zone than in normal CoP carrying 30 guns, a billion rounds of ammo, and my entire bag filled with rubles. Misery is a bit unrealistic in the sense that, you're a trained soldier and should be able to carry a lot more than you're allowed to, but if it allowed that, the survival aspect wouldn't be as strong.
Not going to get into which is better, but if someone's looking for a realistic / difficult mod, look at Redux as well as Misery.
I know it's somehow related to Misery (don't know if it's harder or easier), but I played through CoP with I Work Alone and loved it. Am going to replay when Misery 2 comes out.

Misery isn't a good mod, much of the content is bad quality, even SGM is higher quality on most parts and that says something, the devs are a bunch of stuck up dicks and yell at you if you point out something in the mod isn't realistic even though they claim it is.
