Dust 514
Just announced at the GDC by EVE Online makers CCP - Dust 514, an MMO-FPS-RTS set in the EVE Universe, has been in development for 3 years already.
Apparently console-exclusive, Dust 514 will allow console gamers to finally interact with the EVE Universe we know and love.
There are ways in which these communities will meld in time. Our hope is that alliances will start to form and we will have social structures that spills over from the console game to the PC one. Or you might be able to control parts of the universe with both games. So while one fleet does the flying, the troops do the dying.
I'll update the thread when we get more info and media.

Did you say FPS ?
Instant win for me. so this is a separate game apart from Eve right? not like a DLC or update?
MMO-FPS-RTS? How the crap is that going to work?
Oh, and CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE?!

FPS-RTS Hybrid, yeah. I'm guessing gruts on the ground in FPS, Commanders on ships or such in RTS.
And yes, this is a seperate game from EVE, apart from the Universe.
oh wow this looks great!
Fuuuuck, just posted an article about this in Video Games, as I didn't think it fit into any category, really.
MMO, FPS, RTS, and a console game. I'm conflicted.
T_T console exclusive. I can see how the company wants money and by attacking the millions of Xbox 360 players that's a smart move. But personally I don't have consoles :P only PC so I guess i'll just have to try it at my friends house.
They better not screw this game over. I like Eve's reputation, it has much respect as an MMO and an icon for space/starship/sci-fi theme I would hate to see the console version giving it all a bad name.
Well, could have been great if it wasn't a console exclusive. Ambulation, it seems?
Still find a guy who has electronic education and let him merge your xbox and computer = play it computer and use mouse = win over analog
Also i dont see a problem with xbox players sitting in my ship and defending it or fixing shit in it.
Also i always wanted this to be part of EVE, but now its a whole new game... and on consoles...
FFFFFF i wish i could go to fanfest. Instead i have to punch my ceo in the face cause he is.
Also they dont get any real spaceships, so i lie to few xbox magets and take them to a stranded station somewhere, and repeat.
Also there will be serious EVE player elitism over Dusk players.
I'm so contracting them to a remote planet and open dreadnought fire on it
I'm so contracting them to a remote planet and open dreadnought fire on it
Thats even a better idea.
Also because EVE is so large i will take them to a WH system where no one can hear their screams.
Also longer article http://www.massively.com/2009/08/18/ccp-games-reveals-new-eve-online-console-mmo-dust-514/
Also this doesent make EVE easier, it adds a whole new level to it, meaning we need to train stuff like "Merchenary" each level increases amount of active mercenaries by 2.
"Improved mercenary" reduces amount of FOOD and POWERGRID mercenaries use on your ship.
Also i hope someone finds a way to crack the system and PC players can play it too, xbox360 emulator?

Because CCP'll totally let you do that.
It should be that the fps players use stations between deployments, to buy weapons, armour and such. It'd make stations more populated which would make ambulation work better.
Us eve players should get ambulation, which allows us to run services shipping guns in and opening shops to sell them as well as bars and socialite features. Ambulation would have a purpose.
Clothing should be brought in as a manufacturing process and the economy should be kept the same. Because the capsuleers are supposed to be far richer than the general populace, everything should be scaled properly although it'd be up to the shop at the end of the day to set prices. But clothes should also be available to capsuleers (read near the end).
Weapons, armour should cost between 1000- 10000 ISK so traders and manufacturers in the eve universe can make profit by bringing large quantities of this stock and selling them to the players.
This should remain persistent to eve in the way that being shot results in armour degradation. To keep the market alive really.
Ammo should also be a requirement as a manufactured good and as with Eve, different kinds of it, brought in, in bulk by people wanting to make money and sold at a market dictated price.
To keep bars and clubs active, have alcoholic beverages that gives you buffs and stuff in the next battle you fight. The more you drink, the (slightly) better you become. Maybe have some with trade offs in some respects but make you better in other ways.
RTS aspect should be corporation controlled, where the corps can place buildings and structures within territory captured (read below) including turrets, shields and so on.
The way the gameplay should work is that territory on the planets surface are available to be captured by ground forces, including vehicles. Corps and later alliances would battle for control of territory with vehicles and infantry fighting on the ground (vehicles supplied by the corp, because of their high cost of 100,000-1,000,000ISK, which would be a large amount for the marines).
The corps and alliances would generally pay marines to join them, and pay would function on a per-battle basis with rank and additional credits available for getting kills, taking over bases and stuff. You could choose to be a 'merc' and only fight with corps for single battles at a time or to take it seriously and join a corp full time to fight for their cause.
A planet would consist of about 50-100 territory sectors in all, and the bonus for the corp would be resources mined from the planet (if mining structures are placed by the corp through the RTS mode) or goods, munitions produced in factories placed on the planet (or something of this nature).
To jump straight into the action as a merc, an interface would be available which would show the player the closest to starting deployment available, who is looking for marines of all skill levels, from Recruit to Professional.
Factional warfare should be there from the start as an instant action feature, as factions rage war against eachother, you'd only be able to fight for your faction in these battles, and balance would be maintained. The plus side of fighting for your faction would be immediate instant-action with a base waiting time of 'until the next dropship arrives', which docks every 3-5 minutes.
Capsuleers would be somewhat of a rarity aside the tons of marines packed into the stations and this is where clothing comes in:
Picture a bar, filled with thirsty, sweaty unshaved factional marines in dirtied faction-standard clothing, a few mercenary fighters perched on barstools, wearing a wide variety of clothing, the best they could afford, some leather black leather jackets here and there, and some corporation fighters sitting at a table together.
The door opens. A tall, regal gentleman walks in and the club becomes suddenly quiet, all eyes on the noble visitor. His clothes are the finest custom tailored purple and gold velvet. He moves more gracefully than the riff-raff.
As far as ranks and such goes, you'd pretty much start off as a marine fighting for Amarr, Caldari etc, simply because they accept anyone of any skill level, and pay alright for noobs. You'd keep with this role until you accumulated enough combat experience, kills and such that your profile makes you an experienced warrior. Then you'd move onto corporation or alliance fighting, provided you felt like it.
Oh, and you should be able to use ships within the atmosphere of these planets.
Transports would be needed to carry mined resources and factory-created goods and such from the planets surface.
And Battleships 'n' Frigates should be somewhat useable in atmosphere combat, even if only for fighting eachother above the surface, but there could be modules or new ships available, designed to support troops below, bombers, dropships, vehicle transports and carriers anyone?
Because CCP'll totally let you do that.
Well i will leave my ship there and eject, they cant fly it, let them live in it.
By the way, if I could fly my ship on the surface of the planet, providing fire support, my life would be complete. Imagine seeing a maelstrom flying around firing 1400mm artillery cannons at targets on the ground. oh my god I'm going to jizz myself
Ferrying materials to planets that are being contested would be a lucrative new endeavor for haulers and transporters, and ohhh god this could be really really epic if done right. The perfect game. What Planetside should have been.
Well i will leave my ship there and eject, they cant fly it, let them live in it.
Except that would be retarded and probably wouldn't happen.
I doubt EVE players won't be able to transport any DUST players at all, think its going to be automated. As in you may see some DUST merc transports going to various planets representational to the scale of the conflict there, but chances are if you kill them nothing will happen to the DUST players- they will probably get a loading screen or something.
Also, you seem to be forgetting that without DUST players to contract your corp will find it difficult to control anything of importance. Sure your corp may have tenuous control over jumpgates and a few mining belts, but without planetary control all you really have any control of is hard vaccum and some rocks.
Good luck holding those gates against a mega corp like goonswarm, and I wish you even more luck holding out against their contracted DUST kill teams.
Dust is going to be god damn awesome.
I would Love to see them combine these games, but the task of that seems too daunting and disruptive to work well.
Something I want to know is if it will have "Just for fun fights", just something people can do for fun, no planet is risked, no actually gain(Besides in-game money possibly).

maybe they will have sp or group pve missions.
if you are talking about PVP- Eve allows you to duel other players, so I wouldn't see why DUST couldn't
a new mmo not posted by TotemlyCool? i am shocked :)

console exclusive is a let down though
Caldari are the most suited for combat and will RAPE you all.
Caldari are the most suited for combat and will RAPE you all.
Agree, doesn't think that it will matter much in Dust
There's so much rage on the EVE forums about this. Personally I think it's pretty neat. Goons are going to troll the shit out of the players though...
Caldari are the most suited for combat and will RAPE you all.
Amarr and there Close range weapons that actually are med range will destroy you
:aaaaa:
Well it's definitely ambitious of CCP, wouldn't be too surprised if it bombed though.
Agree, doesn't think that it will matter much in Dust
Yeah chance are, it would be advantageous to have a mixed race DUST corp.
I'm really curious as to how ammar and mimitar weapons look.
I imagine caldari weapons would look like semifuturistic modern weapons, and gallente ones would look pretty futruristic.
What race do you think the person in the video is? I'd say Probably Caldari, since it seemed like the rifle was pretty sleek and streamlined. It also wasn't made out of that weird green/blue meal Gallentians favor.
Minmatar will have some scrap guns with solar panels.
