This is the way it is with the Zone: if you come back with swag - it's a miracle; if you come back alive - it's a success; if the patrol bullets miss you - it's a stroke of luck. And as for anything else - that's fate. -Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky Welcome to the zone. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series is made up of three games as of now, Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat. Each game has its own set of unique experiences and features, and each game has a new twist upon the life of a Stalker. The game series is based off of the Chernobyl Nuclear catastrophe, with it's own fictional additions. The zone is an irradiated hell hole that was formed after the second explosion at the powerplant, it's filled with anomalies and known to be home to deadly mutants. The zone is populated by scavengers nicknamed S.T.A.L.K.E.R's, which stands for "Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer, Robber". There are also various other factions of stalkers which may be friendly, neutral, or hostile. This is just a quick overview for more in-depth information I recommend taking a look at the individual game websites highlighted above, or if you don't mind spoilers you may also take a look at the Stalker Wiki. - Be sure to play the games without any game changing mods if you're going through your first playthrough! There is a plethora of different modifications for all of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, some are just minor tweaks but others provide a vastly different experience. You can go on and find one that interests you or just ask in the thread! Beware of mods like Complete that advertise to only "enhance" the vanilla experience, this is not true. The mods change certain aspects of the game that would otherwise not be in the vanilla version of the games, so please play vanilla first and THEN enjoy those mods. Here are a few websites that you can visit to find Stalker mods: Stalker Filefront, ModDB, and the Facepunch Mod Repository. (Please PM the OP if there are any other sites you would like to have added!) Photorealistic Zone Texture Pack by Argus List of preferred SoC mods List of preferred CS mods List of preferred CoP mods Q: What order should I play these games in? I'd recommend playing them in the order they were released, SoC - CS - CoP. Doing it any other way may ruin certain game experiences or spoil the story! Q: I just bought these games is there anything I should install right off the bat? A: For Shadow of Chernobyl you could install the Facepunch Starter pack if you really need to, and for Clear Sky install The Clear Sky Reclamation Project. These are community bug fixes that will make your experience with the games more pleasant. Call of Pripyat on the other hand is the most stable build of STALKER so far and only requires to be on the latest patch. Other than this don't install anything else, playing mods on your first playthrough is not encouraged. PLEASE don't use STALKER Complete. Q: How do I install these mods? A: First get to the directory for the game you want to install the stuff in - Steam: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common" - In the common folder the games will be in their own folders. Shadow of Chernobyl: "C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl" Clear Sky: "C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky" Call of Pripyat: "C:\Program Files\bitComposer Games\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat" If you're running a 64-bit OS then go to the (x86) portion of your program files. Depending on what you're installing it's most likely going be a folder named "gamedata", just toss that into the main directory. Also go into the "fsgame.ltx" file and open it in notepad, then go the the line game_data and make it look like this: $game_data$ = true|true|$fs_root$|gamedata\ Facepunch Stalkers 2011, Facepunch Stalkers 2009. Aaand still no vanilla before you add sprinkles banner. Come on man, we need more reason to yell at newbies who do their first run with Complete.
>.> will I be missing much if I keep playing w/ the mod? got so far into the game with so much good stuff...
Something is totally wrong... Is it just me or is the Mutant Wave quest (defending Noah's place) unbeatable on Wizard? [SUB]SGM 2.2[/SUB]
Something is totally wrong... Is it just me or is the Mutant Wave quest (defending Noah's place) unbeatable on Wizard? [SUB]SGM 2.2[/SUB]
No, just terribly designed. Pack an exo, a good shotgun, and lots of explosives. Gauss Rifle couldn't hurt either.
>.> will I be missing much if I keep playing w/ the mod? got so far into the game with so much good stuff...
You won't miss much other than the difficulty
played shadow of chernobyl last year and absolutely loved it. no mods, though. thinking of playing through CoP sometime soon.
No, just terribly designed. Pack an exo, a good shotgun, and lots of explosives. Gauss Rifle couldn't hurt either.
The amount of mutants and location really make it some bullshit. That and the fact that the creator actually expected you to be able to defend it with a sniper from that height.
add this to the op
This is... FUCKING BULLSHIT! [t]http://i.minus.com/iBIgbPIFKgLF.jpg[/t] Ok, second wave is my max. Whoever the author of this quest is, he can choke with his own dick.
add this to the op
What if I like chocolate. :downs:
Something is totally wrong... Is it just me or is the Mutant Wave quest (defending Noah's place) unbeatable on Wizard? [SUB]SGM 2.2[/SUB]
Take Frigate, level him up a bit and then give him an upgraded PKM holding 1 9mm Dum-Dum round. He will fire them infinitely and destroy several dozen mutants easily. Make him hold stay somewhere near the front, climb yourself on the top of the tower with an RPG and eliminate the mutants with rockets as they spawn. You can see them spawn from that high tower. As for the controllers, well . . . double F1's.

Oh and every upgrade is made from gold, cause I can't explain that ridiculous cost.
Where I get money for all this stuff? Hardly got myself a SEVA suit. Oh and every upgrade is made from gold, cause I can't explain that ridiculous cost.
Get 80 spare parts for a mechanic. Then keep giving him spare parts until he has over 100. Then make him give you a vanilla discount (Nitro = Friend of Duty, radio materials...Cardan = Joker & Barge PDA, Item 62)
Where I get money for all this stuff? Hardly got myself a SEVA suit. Oh and every upgrade is made from gold, cause I can't explain that ridiculous cost.
Money comes very easily in SGM. Artifact hunting is fun and profitable, stashes abound, and a little something I like to call compound interest ensures you're never more than 100 meters away from a cash cow. The way I play it, at least.
Want to play CoP. What's a good one? things I've played already: SGM Swartz Dooms Redux I Work Alone + a couple of others I can't think of. also dont recommend misery
So I'm downloading Doom's mod merge because it is my favorite SoC mod, but quick thing, I'm just wondering when the last update to it was?
Get out of here Stalker

Get better gears before proceeding further. If it's a bug that is preventing you from going further, get the FacepunchStarterPack from the OP. It has ZRP inlcuded, which fixes almost all the known bugs and also allow you to do some crazy stuff. Try not to play with any mods on your 1st playthrough, except (maybe) graphical ones and probably unofficial patches if they're good. The pack was made by our very own 1239the.
