NEOTOKYO takes place about 30-40 years from now in a Japan that has drifted into social/political strife due to the inevitable stresses that come from changing times. The Japanese government is grappling with intensified external (Asia geopolitics) and internal (economic/social) problems, and there is mounting pressure from within Japan to return to the days when it exerted influence through military power and strength. A failed legislative push to alter the Japanese Constitution (allowing the Japanese military to engage in offensive actions outside of the country) leads to an attempted military coup by members of Japan's armed forces (GSDF). The coup fails, but was very close to succeeding. In an effort to suppress further coup attempts, Japan's Prime Minister forms a branch inside the Interior Ministry's National Security Forces (NSF) called GROUP SIX. They answer directly to the Prime Minister and are sworn to protect the Japanese Constitution at all costs. They immediately begin to hear rumours of a rogue element of the GSDF Special Forces (JINRAI) maneuvering for a second coup attempt. These JINRAI are Special Operations Group 43 (SOG43), fierce nationalist loyal to their love of country, and a desire to put Japan back into a position of strength and power.
This begins the war in the shadows between the NSF and JINRAI.
NeoTokyo is a full conversion mod for the Half Life 2 engine created by Studio Radi-8. NeoTokyo puts players in the midst of a full scale war between the NSF and Jinrai in a variety of futuristic maps.
At this point in time there is only 1 gamemode Capture the Ghost, or CTG as players refer to it, (gamers play a game of capture the flag with only one flag, and the flag is the female robot torso which looks something outta i, Robot.) This is no ordinary capture the flag, when capturing the ghost players get access to an ability to see incoming enemies, sort of like a safe good looking wallhack.

NeoTokyo is one of the best mods i've ever played, It pays so much attention to detail providing a visceral, entertaining (and sometimes frustrating) experience it has easy to use controls, a perfect leaning system and balanced classes. NeoTokyo has production value of that of a full game, infact if neotokyo was a real retail game i'd be out there buying it right now. As you can see from all the praise and buttkisery of this game, I am begging you try this game and see for yourself its beauty.

I love how the ghost is a naked torso.

It's a ROBOT.
Never had the chance to play this mod. I might give it a go.

Well you're a bit late to the party, it was kind of dying out since I last played it.
Unless they added quite a lot of stuff, there is little distinction between this and CSS.

You should try it if you haven't played it. It's good fun for some time
It's awesome game but usually there's only couple of players online. I mean, something between 2 and 20.
I tried this as soon as it came out and just decided that there should be a thread.

There was a mega thread. It came and went just like the mod.
The gamemode is shit compared to what the modding community has to offer.
Pirates vikings and knights, resistance and liberation, insurgency
These mods i would much rather play than NeoTokyo

And atleast they don't have overdone effects
I mean come on, hitting a metal surface is like lighting a goddamned firework
The difficulty is what makes me keep playing, it's rather hard to not die if you're playing with veterans.
Did they ever patch or add anything new?
Last time I checked like 3 months after it came out they hadn't even updated it yet.

Yeah it's just Counter Strike- in the future. If you hate CS (like me) it's terrible, and if you don't you're probably better off just playing the real deal.
Looks like an awesome mod and game, but the naked robot pretty much ruins it for me.
:gonk:
I was a play tester for this mod. I had a thread for the mod and everything. Love this mod so much. It's dead due to ignorance within the mod community.
Game has awesome music. It's all on my zune now.
This mod suffers from a massive case of style over substance. Fantastic character design, some good weapon design, awesome art-style and map design, interesting backstory and nice music... but none of it matters in a multiplayer-only game which, once you strip away all the aesthetics, is essentially a Counter-Strike rehash.

Such a shame, it's so beautiful, though I'm not fond of the gameplay.

It was worth the download to put all the models and maps into Gmod, and to extract the soundtrack.
:P
Someone should SWEP the weapons, if it hasn't been done already, they're beastly.

they patched it once, and that was only a few bug fixes, some new maps, some new ost, and the three weapons becoming cheap as fuck.
i dont like this mod, it hyped me to hell and it sucks
Valve games and mods section is down there VV

I know the jatimatic was out and about as a swep in one pack or another.
Was the second or third gun recons got.
Overall I really liked the style and it was a great deduction from the anime on which the mod it was based.
I just wished they had tought of gamemodes other than what ammounted to kill the carrier. I had some great moments in it though.

This. It's pretty sad to see all of it go to waste too. It's the style that got me looking at the mod in the first place.
they turned the cheapest gun in the game even cheaper by adding a silencer to it.
Nt is the most aesthetically pleasing game I have played in my life, but it just simply feels way to much like counterstrike.
In the beginning it was great with the mass amount of servers to play on and fresh community just discovering the game, but as it aged it just got more and more like counterstrike instead of reinventing the online shooter like it was hyped to be.
lol i think fortress forever has more players than this mod
It's a ROBOT.
It's an Erotobot!

A bit like ZP:S, notice both games are made by mostly the same people?
