Valve hiring ex Naughty Dog Employees PS3 and Valve fans rejoice
After years of Valve’s Gabe Newell bad-mouthing the PlayStation 3 for it complexity, even going as far as calling it a “total disaster”, some members of Valve have recently spoken up about their PS3 ambitions, saying “before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way”.
More recently, Valve apologized to PS3 owners admitting they “didn’t put their best foot forward with the PS3 community”, adding “we want to give PS3 owners the best possible PS3 experience”.
What better way to give PS3 owners such an experience than by tapping into the talent of one developer that surely has a firm grasp at what it takes to make a great PS3 game. That developer is Naughty Dog, creators of the award-winning Uncharted franchise.
While perusing the profiles of Valve employees on LinkedIn, you’ll notice that a few of them are ex-employees of Naughty Dog. Two of these profiles show ex-Naughty Dog employees with direct experience working on the PS3.
Vitaliy Genkin, an ex-senior programmer for Naughty Dog, reveals his work creating an ” in-game-editor with PS3 run-time support” along with ” different tools for defining / processing / optimizing in-game data”.
Another profile, for Alex Vlachos lists his work on Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.
That’s not the only ex-Naughty Dog employees Valve has brought under their wing. Elan Ruskin worked with Naughty Dog on the Jak and Daxter series.
With Valve scooping up some serious PS3 programming talent, it seems that they’re trying to rid themselves of the stigma that Valve just can’t handle the PS3. Looks like PS3 owners may be in for a real treat coming from Valve in the future.
This is incredible news for PS3 owners, and Valve fans alike, why? I'll tell you.
For PS3 fans, there's the possibility that Valve may port games to the PS3, since they now have people who have experience with the PS3.
Not only that, Valve has also hired employees from Naughty Dog who have worked on both the Uncharted series, in which I can personally say are two of THE best console games this generation, and also the Jak and Daxter series. Considering the quality of these two games, they could do some cool shit with upcoming projects.
Fuck yes. Any company could learn a thing or two from guys that used to work on Naughty Dog.
I doubt anyone is certain about anything yet. Valves reason for not developing for the PS3 was lack of experience and the difficulty of it. Now that they do, there's alot of things they can do, maybe a port of L4D1/2, maybe L4D3, maybe Portal 2, maybe Episode 3, maybe all of these, I guess we'll find out soon.
Yes.
Solid
That's great for anyone who can't run their games on PC.
I'm still going to buy Portal 2 on PC.
Valve may probably also utilize Naughty Dogs previous talents and abilities to their advantages in new projects, as Naughty Dog are known for their well recieved games, such as the Jak and Dextar, Uncharted, and Crash Bandicoot series.
Awesome. If they put a lot of effort into making a good PS3 game it could be quite the success. I happy that Gabe grew some balls to admit that the Playstation 3 is actually a good system.
Who knows, maybe he'll decide to stop stuffing his face sometime soon.
Good move valve, I am a fan of what naughty dog's games such as jak and dexter. These developer might have something big on their series.
oh god yes
Huzzah!
Those PS3 fanboys hating on Valve better take back their insults.
Good news.
Maybe they can help them get Episode 3 out faster.
Oh who am i kidding it's never coming out.
Crash Bandicoot was better than than Uncharted :colbert:

I know your probably saying this because it was a part of your childhood, but honestly Uncharted is better. Don't get me wrong Crash is fun as hell, but Uncharted totally takes the cake.

Perhaps our estranged PS3 bretheren will at last be able to experience the true power of Valve's games, now...
and all of the sudden the valve hate from the ps3 fans die
Fuck yes. Any company could learn a thing or two from guys that used to work on Naughty Dog.

Imagine HL2 but in the style of Naughty Dog.
Op it's Jak and DAXTER.
If only VALVe could obtain the Crash Bandicoot rights...
The Naughty Dog Crash will always be my favorite Crash.
