Donkey Kong Country is a 2-D side scrolling platform video game developed by Rare, featuring the character Donkey Kong. It was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1994. Following an intense marketing campaign, the original SNES version sold over 8 million copies wordwide, making it the best-selling non-bundled SNES game of all time. It was the first Donkey Kong game not to be produced or directed by Shigeru Miyamoto. Instead, it was produced by Tim Stamper.
This was the game that defined my childhood. I had Super Mario World, but I did not play as much as I played this. I have beaten this game a lot. I played through it a few years ago, and I'm playing through it again right now.
Also, the music in this game is fucking awesome. Rare always had good music in their games, From Battleloads to perfect dark.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (abbreviated to DKC2) is an adventurous platform game developed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) produced by Rareware and published by Nintendo. It stars Diddy Kong and his girlfriend Dixie Kong. Donkey Kong Country 2 was released on December 14, 1995[1][2] as a sequel to Donkey Kong Country and later followed by Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! in 1996. It was later also released on the Game Boy Advance in 2004 and is currently available for download on the Wii's Virtual Console, having become one of the most popular games of its age
A game that is as good as the original, however, its much harder than the first one, especially the animal antics level in the lost world. I remember getting this game for christmas back when I was only 4 years old. It was so fun.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! is a platform game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo and was believed to be the final installment in the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy, that was until Nintendo announced Retro Studios would be developing the next installment, Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Nintendo Wii. It was released in late 1996 for the Super NES. The game was ported to Game Boy Advance in 2005[1] (with a different soundtrack; see "GBA re-release"). The title was released on the Wii's Virtual Console service in North America on December 24, 2007, and the following day in Europe as a special Christmas update.
Another great game, but I don't like this one as much as DKC or DKC2. The music is really good in this one too, and the levels are just as hard as in the second game.
Donkey Kong Country returns. On the wii (it isn't out yet)
This one isn't developed by Rare, but is being developed by Retro Studios (Metroid Prime series) It's a odd choice for a developer, but I got my fingers crossed that this will be a good game.
Anyways, this is my favorite series of platformers ever. The gameplay is so fluid, its not super difficult (the lost world in DKC2 and DKC3 are really hard though) so all ages can enjoy. But, the music in all three games is fantastic, and the graphics are amazing for the SNES. For some games, graphics don't age very well. However, I think the graphics aged very well, and the game still looks great to the eye.
So, do anyone on facepunch loves these games as much as I do?
This game got me into gaming when I was 2. So, pretty much the trigger that started my life. Ah, good times.
What about DK64? I believe that is a DKC game. Anyway, I own the second on GBA and I think it might be the best GBA game I own.
The first one on SNES was my childhood. We would spend all day taking turns on it and it was just great. I just hope the remake or whatever coming out for Wii is as good without Rare.
I have the first three in the plastic in the boxes, and the same with the GBC versions.
I also have unboxed versions of all of them, haha.
Love DKC so much. Can't wait for Returns.
Donkey Kong Country was my first video game I ever got, and it is still the best. Part 2 is pretty fucking epic too.
I have the first and second Donkey Kong; ah nostalgia.
Oh god nostalgia. I have the carts for all three somewhere.
Boss Dumb Drum was the awesomest boss ever. He was easy as shit to fight, but a floating barrel that shoot enemies? Thats creativity.

DKC2 is one of my favourite games of all time.
Oh god. this music. Nostaglia'd.

Not the same without the metallic clanging though.
