On your xbox live profile there is a number, this number provides a sense of achievement (somehow) by telling people how long you have been a member of xbox live. If my gold membership runs out, will my number reset? I've heard it doesn't reset for 11 weeks...

How the hell is it a sense of achievement? It just tells people how long you've been on Xbox Live, that isn't something to be proud of.
No, your number will not reset.
It doesn't reset, if you get gold membership again, the counter starts up.
Simple as that.
