Anyone who has played the NES version of Maniac Mansion knows all of the kids carry CD players.
So far I've been able to figure out all of the music references in except one...
Dave's Theme: The Boys Are Still Back by Fat Patty (The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy)
Razor's Theme: No No Never Never Well Maybe Sure Okay by The Void (Never Say Never by Romeo Void)
Bernard's Theme: Comp-U-Nerd by Rocket Scientists (Girl-U-Want by Devo)
Wendy's Theme: Sonatina in G Opus 47 BVW 801 (Based on Sonatina in G by Beethoven. Obvious, really.)
Jeff's Theme: Surf Face by the Goofy Feet (The Lively Ones, but this is a generic reference. Most of the Lively One's catalog are songs that start with the word "Surf" like Surf Rider, Surf Beat, and Surf City. They also have a song called "Goofy Foot", which is a surfing term.)
Michael's Theme: Flashbulb Funk by Princess (Prince. The exact song remains a mystery to me, though, since "Flashblub Funk" is less a reference to a Prince song and more of the character of Michael, since he's a photographer. I'm not a huge Prince fan though, so if I'm wrong point it out.)
This one is a mystery.
Syd's Theme: Psychedelic Brie by Metalflake
Like the Prince reference, it could just be the band name and nothing more. I'd say in that case it'd be Metallica. But three things about that strike me as incorrect:
1. Syd is the stereotypical new wave kid: The all black outfit, tie, perfect Max Headroom blonde hair, and sunglasses at night. Guys dressed like that back in the 80s wouldn't be caught dead listening to Metallica.
2. I can't find anything in Metallica's catalog that screams the name "Psychedelic Brie" like "The Boys Are Back In Town" does for "The Boys Are Still Back"
3. The name of the song itself, Psychedelic Brie, reminds me of "Rock Lobster" by B-52s... but B-52s have nothing to do with "Metalflake", or do they?
So, my fellow Facepunch forumites: What is Syd's theme in Maniac Mansion a reference to?
Day of the Tentacle was better if you ask me.
Although it was hella cool that you could play Maniac Mansion in the game :>
Bump. It's shameless, but I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
