I can't remember the name of this somewhat modern arena style fps, please help

It was an average rated game with the critics. the VO was terrible and the single player was you killing people in an arena and climbing the ranks. you could hire engineers to repair your armor in addition to medics and mercenaries and eventually you could get mechs. i'm pretty sure it had a vengeance style plot like the main character's motivation for playing this "most dangerous game" was to avenge his dead wife or something like that.

it was really like a futuristic counter strike, you could buy weapons, there was even a sheild like 1.6.

i've already tried googling it a bunch of times but i came up with nothing, kinda hard when you don't know the name

Your description reminds me of "Bet on Soldier", though it's probably not the game you're looking for. I played both the first game and the sequel very briefly, so I'm unsure.
