• What's wrong with V.A.T.S from the Fallout Series?

I have heard a a lot of hateful comments about V.A.T.S in years past. I just don't understand what is not appealing about watching peoples' heads exploding in slow motion. If you hate V.A.T.S, please tell me why.
It's boring after you use it a few times and it feels like cheating, that's how I feel anyways.
True, it does feel like cheating sometimes.
let your numbers do the fighting yawn
I am afraid I do not understand thy point.
Because this isn't FO2 anymore and it feels like it shouldn't be there.
I would like it better if instead of stopping time it slowed down alot, it would make the kill harder but more satisfying.
Explain that. Why do you reference Fallout 2 as opposed to 1?
I think it stops the Action, but it's an interesting system.
It is fun to use for certain types of kills. IE rocket launchers, explosives. It takes all the fun away out of shooting aspects of the game though, it is at times a auto-win button.
Explain that. Why do you reference Fallout 2 as opposed to 1?
...They were both isometric, why do you care they were basically the same engine.
I think it's very satisfying to watch an alien's head explode in slow motion. [editline]21st April 2011[/editline] I was just wondering why he said FO2 and not 1. Jeez. It's a very interesting gameplay mechanism. I liked how FO3 combined shooter and RPG elements. V.A.T.S applies your RPG stats, whereas regular gameplay does not restrict your shooting.

The fact that if you haven't got high enough experience your bullets simply won't go where you are quite clearly aiming, and won't hit your target even when it's impossible to miss. I disliked VATS because it almost felt like I was being forced to use it until my bullets would actually go where I was aiming.
No one asked you. I was asking Uberman.
because fallout TWO was the game preceding fallout THREE, the game where there was a change in developers and gameplay there is no point really in having a system that essentially aims for you in a game where the combat is very much like an FPS, it was necessary in fallout 2, the last turn based fallout game but not here also this might just be me but all your posts have a weird uncanny valley feeling about them, like an alien that's read a lot of old books and bases his speech off them

About half the perks you can use are VATS based, and it gives you pretty much guaranteed criticals. Not only that, but you can fire a nuke at your feet and lose a third of your health (If you didn't already know, it reduces damage by 90%).
let your numbers do the fighting yawn
Like Pokemon? Err...
also this might just be me but all your posts have a weird uncanny valley feeling about them, like an alien that's read a lot of old books and bases his speech off them
I mean look at this shit:
I am afraid I do not understand thy point.
Because it's so much worse compared to the system in fallout 1 and 2. Seriously I'd be fine with it if it were a completely turn based mode in the game, with movement, turns and whatnot. Not just slow damage resist higher weapon degradation mode.

Outside VATS it feels floaty, unconvincing and boring. Gamebryo just doesn't work as an FPS.
What's wrong with the fallout thread?
I've never thought it was a problem. In fact its a lot of fun. It improves the game, even. Also its there because the first two fallouts were turn-based and they wanted to keep it slightly like that.
What's wrong with the fallout thread?
the op has problems, have you not looked at his posts [editline]21st April 2011[/editline]
I've never thought it was a problem. It's a damn good job they did as it turned out to be the only entertaining to watch portion of the combat.
Like Pokemon? Err...
Your avatar I can't stop looking
Herp derp, i use aimbot jvrneu. [editline]21st April 2011[/editline] In all seriousness i don't have a problem with it, especially when i have Grim Reapers Sprint and a high amount of AP.
I almost voted for the wrong option thinking it said like instead of dislike
Your avatar I can't stop looking
I told him to put the border around it. :smug:
I told him to put the border around it. :smug:
wow man, when I was looking at his avatar the first thing my eye was drawn to was the border rather than the gyrating ass, you are truly a master of design
It gave me a headache and made the game feel boring after a while in New Vegas.
