The Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack remake project. Over 2 years in making, just released - Games

[b][url]http://dkc2.ocremix.org/[/url][/b] The guys over at ocremix.org have been working on this for over 2 years now. It just came out last night. I've been following it for months now, and it's well worth the wait. Basically they had all these people pick a song, and they remade it for the album in whatever style they want, [highlight]any genre[/highlight] they preferred. They got a lot of talent for it, but whats really awesome is the fact they got [highlight]the original rare composers to contribute to this awesome album:[/highlight] David Wise, the man that made the music for the games plus many other great games, and his Rare buddies Grant Kirkhope, who did among other things the Banjoe Kazzoie Soundtrack and Robin Beanland, who did the conkers bad fur day soundtrack, as well as goldeneye and perfect dark, and many other games. to contribute a track to the album, a remake of the ending credits music "Donkey Kong Rescued". I've listened through it, and aside from like, 4 or 5 songs I don't really like or just don't care for, this album is really fucking great. I really love these ones here: Dance of the Zinger, a cover of Flight of the Zinger, by Virt, the guy that did the soundtrack to Contra 4 Rare Respite, a cover of Jib Jig, by patrick burns Bramble Reprise, a cover of stickerbrush symphony, by Joshua Morse Sturm Und Kong, a cover of K.Rool Returns, by djpretzle Castle Crescendo, a cover of Krook's March, by Sole Signal Beneath the Canopy, a cover of Forest Interlude, by Fishy And of course "Re-Skewed" by the Rare guys. Wow this is awesome. The nostalgia is awesome, and coupled with the fact that the songs for all of Rare's old games were really awesome. DK64 and Banjo Kazooie had crazy awesome soundtracks. I've listened to a few now and I am definitely liking it so far.

There's only a few techno songs on here i think. I'll have to double check. But yeah there's still plenty of other tracks to check out.

Aw, Stickerbrush was my FAVOURITE, loved it from the moment I first played it as a kid. But they kinda ruined the entire mood of the song with this remake. Still, fucking awesome compilation, will be getting this.

Some of these have really cheesy synth sounds but other than that it's cool.

This is the best game ever made. I dare you to disagree.

Some are techno but it fits (Thinking about Disco Train remix). But some are not techno at all. I'm thinking about songs like Rare Respite which have some kind of a celtic genre. There are too many songs where they tried going with lyrics though (Kannon's claim, In a snow-bound land and Hot Head Hop). Also, Avatar related (DKC3 though)

This game was my childhood. David Wise is my favorite video game composer ever.

Oh sweet lord, how did I never pick up on this in all my years lurking around OCremix? DKC2 was the soundtrack of my childhood and what first got me into music. Mining Melancholy and Lockjaw's Saga were always my favourites. This has made my week. :dance:
