Would anyone else like to see the possibility of cave ins while digging mines in minecraft? Large mines would need support beams to prevent collapses.
Also, what do you guys think about flooding? Say you are mining carelessly under a lake and you open a hole to the bottom of the lake and you have to get out before drowning.

how would caves work
how would caves work
How do they work in the real world?
I'd think they would be naturally sturdy from collapse. Maybe if you disturbed that balance by chipping out walls etc there could be a cave in. It would be pretty awesome to find a cave full of monsters and you can cause it to cave in on top of them using tnt.
I support your idea of having better water physics. Any single block of water can trickle down indefinitely at the moment, which is silly.

But if we had better water physics it would need a pump or something, as a lot of water and magma features would be ruined.
We already have a cave in. Falling sand and falling gravel
We already have a cave in. Falling sand and falling gravel
Which is only a threat if you're mentally challenged.
This sounds cool in practice, however it will probably just make things too tedious to be fun.
On top of putting torches down every 5 blocks, supports every so often would take so much resource you'd have a net loss, methinks.
We already have a cave in. Falling sand and falling gravel
Which doesn't even happen as often due to sandstone.
I'd really like the flooding like in the previous version (you can see them on Notch's youtube account).
It would be more intense, more difficult... Well maybe not by default but an option (Use Water flooding or something like that).
So no more floating islands?
Sounds like it'd be a massive pain in the ass.
I'm not sure on the idea of needing support beams to support your mines, it seems kind of an added nuisance which wouldn't be much fun, unless the process of putting down a support beam is very quick and simple. The idea of random cave ins though sounds brilliant, I can just imagine happily exploring a cave, when suddenly, gust of wind blows your torches out, you hear some rocks crashing and suddenly your entrance is blocked and you haven't got a damn clue where you are. Then ssss...
No. Building houses would get tedious because how would the game know if the structure is a house or a cave when it's built out of stone?
However I do support better water physics.
seeing as stone isnt affected by gravity this won't work, and why better water physiscs? I like my waterfall house.
I wish the old style of water could be combined with the new style. Mainly for the cave floods. The good old days of accidentally digging into the ocean and drowning because your entire cave filled with water and there was no quick way out.
I think it is enough what there is so far. I just want more mechanics with water though. Supports seem too tedious for a game.
I'd like to be able to dig canals without having to manually add water, however I don't want my entire mineshaft to flood accidentally.
Stone shouldn't cave in, then buildings and shit would need supports and I don't think that going that deep into reality would make minecraft fun.
I think however that rain making floods would be "cool" if they didn't fuck it up and go 40 days and 40 nights on my server.
It isn't feasible and shouldn't happen. Imagine what it would do to the surface - trees would be floating in the air, everything would be screwed up if you damaged a even remotely large cave system.
I'm not sure about you guys, but I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be a survival game and I completely support this idea. I want Minecraft to be pretty difficult and tedious at time because it makes the most sense. I don't find being able to collect tons of materials so easily so fun. Hell, even on Hard mode it's not even that difficult if you know how to play, because it only affects mobs.

As Notch said on the website "I'd rather make the game too difficult than too easy". So hopefully those of us who want more of a challenge will get something good soon. I see too many threads on the official Minecraft forums proposing ideas to improve Survival mode but they are quickly shot down by people complaining that "X would be too tedius" and "I don't want X because it wouldn't be fun and It would risk my perfect structures" etc (I fucking hate that community so much. They really cannot grasp the idea of survival mode). In my opinion more challenges will make Minecraft more fun and worthwhile in the long run. That's what separates Minecraft from sandbox games like Garry's mod.
I'd love to see the complexity and the challenge in Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, and Wurm implemented into Minecraft and still be very accessible somehow. But judging from all the screaming 12 year olds that flood the Minecraft community I wouldn't be surprised if we get none of that. Seriously, half of the Minecraft forum wanted to boycott the game when Notch said he would make torches run out eventually. And somehow that was enough for Notch to scrap the idea (for now anyway). It's disappointing because in the end Minecraft might not be what Notch originally intended it to be.
I'm confused, isn't there a thread for Minecraft ideas..

:saddowns:
I'd only support cave-ins if it was an option. It'd be really fucking annoying to be mining only to have this one block turn out to magically be holding the entire cave up and then everything goes down the shitter.
I kinda like the idea of support beams being needed, but not in the default game, maybe a mod or something so you didnt have to bother with it unless you really wanted to, cause it sounds like alot of work but the kinda thing that would be rewarding to make a house thats all nice and big and supported with beams and such
I've had an idea for better water physics, the problem with it is that it includes adding a third water block, lake/sea water.
Lake/sea water uses the classic water physics. The water would be dangerous enough to encourage avoidance of careless mining. Plus you wouldn't get those annoying water flows from building something on the water and removing it. Another plus, when digging away the coastline, you'd not have the problem of trying to get the water physics to fill the new coastline in. The current two water blocks and physics will only be used by manually placed water keeping user made water features intact. A small change to these physics could be allowing flowing water to settle to still water when it is above another still water instead of only allowing the water to settle on the lowest level. A possible way to interchange the two physics types could be if the player can create a 3x3x3 cube of bucket water, at or below the sea level, the cube will become sea/lake water allowing the player to create larger water features with ease.
Edit
Just had another thought for the lake/sea water physics, instead of the minecraft classic physics, it could use the early finite water physics that notch used, giving the player more time to breath and escape from their possible underwater tomb, much better odds of survival than if seawater used classic physics.

I want this mod to be standard with water in minecraft

"Awesome"
I would like to see mine flooding, that'd be fun.
