What games are good in this genre? I want to find a game like just cause, assassins creed, gta, oblivion or fallout 3.
Minecraft. kind of.
X3. It's basically a space game where you fly around, take missions, trade, do whatever, in a big-ass universe. Like Elite or Privateer if you know them. What makes X3 interesting is that you can own more than one ship, controlling the others remotely using the autopilot. So you can build up a big fleet of carriers, battleships, frigates, corvettes and fighters. You can have another huge fleet of trading ships making money for you, flying around and carrying out trade routes. You can build a huge complex of space stations pumping out arms for your fleet, selling the surplus to NPC traders. Great stuff, basically.
Postal 2, Red Dead Redemption if you haven't played it yet, Jak 2, Ultima IX: Ascension
Second Life, however this can't be really called a game, more of a glorified chat-openworld-sandbox. Pretty much everything in it is made completely by the users of it. However, the game has a large population of people with a *special* fetish, which most facepunchers don't seem to like, so it depends on whether you are on the bandwagon or not.
Saints row 2, non stop mindless fun. A side mission is to stop a domestic disturbance with preferably a chainsaw.
Also Crackdown (1/2). Crackdown 2 even has a 4-player coop mode, which can be really fun at times. The game is pretty much made for the coop aspect, since theres no real story or anything else unimportant for a coop game to it.
Anything from Rockstar Games, Crackdown 1 or 2, or Minecraft. All very good if you can stand some graphical hiccups.
Also forgot red faction guerrilla if you're into blowing shit up
Ultima IX: Ascension
That must be the first time I've seen that game mentioned on these forums.
If you've still got a PS2 or Xbox then check out Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. One of the most entertaining open world games from last generation.
Apb or Saints Row 2.

Red Faction Guerrilla, Saints Row 2, Just Cause 2.
Second Life It's only 1000 usd for a server and 250 a month after that.
Mount & Blade.
shadow of chernobyl is more runnable.
It also has the largest selection of mods, the most patches and, IMO, is a more enjoyable game anyway than the other two, especially with a mod that enables Free Play, It is fun hunting down the top Stalkers in the game

X - Beyond the Frontier with it's expansion pack, XTension. If you can't find it/it's too hard, then X3 Terran Conflict. [editline]06:30PM[/editline]
X3. Pisses me off when people won't specify which one :colbert:
