In lieu of the classic SWG being ressurected by emulation projects, another legendary MMO sees the light of day once more. Truly this is a glorious day for the genre. The game may have collapsed back in 2004, presumably from lack of revenue. But few games produce as tightly knit or devoted fanbases as this one did.
Perhaps the polar opposite to EVE, this game offers bright colours, and a simple, highly accessible system. Gameplay largely centers around PvE in groups. Three factions seek their place in the galaxy, the slender Jenquai whose focus is on science and exploration, the brutal Progen who tank their way to victory, and the balanced Terrans who build cool stuff and sell it to the highest bidder.
But humans may not be the only ones out there. Dun-dun-dunn.
You'll land on stations, explore planets and traverse the vast, and surprisingly not quite so empty space. Distances are huge, and travelling from place to place can take a while. So be sure you're well equipped, or team up with a Jenquai explorer who can take you long distances in the blink of an eye.
The game was originally developed by Westwood studios and published by EA.

I've only just started playing, so I'm not at liberty to say more really. It seems pretty fun for what it is, even though the graphics are almost 9 years old they look pretty good. Character customisation is somewhat lacking, you won't be making your own face to any detail, and ship customisation is basic at best.
The fansite should provide you with all the information you need though, and the latest news post links to the emulator. You'll need to register on their forums and follow the guide on www.net-7.org 's FAQ to get started. The ingame tutorial seems to be missing though, so make sure you know the basic controls at least.

The emulator is still in development, so expect bugs. It seems pretty functional though. I only had a little trouble with launching the game that was quickly fixed by looking at the help threads in the forums.
