Zeno Clash
What is it?
Zeno Clash is a first-person fighting video game, released April 21, 2009 for Xbox 360 and PC with some elements of a first person shooter built on Valves Source engine. If you were wondering what it was comparable to I would say its like a closed-world WoW had a baby with Half-Life 2, if you are a dan of either game I think you would love Zeno Clash. It takes fantasy and combat and creates a new interesting world that no one should miss out on.
What is it about?
The story takes place in a fictional fantasy world called Zenozoik, and begins in a town called Halstedom. The game commences with Ghat, the game's protagonist, regaining consciousness after setting off an explosion which kills Father-Mother, an ostensibly hermaphroditic creature, which has raised a large and influential family. Ghat is one of Father-Mother's children, who turned on it after discovering its secret. Ghat runs away from the town, chased by his brothers and sisters seeking to kill him, and is banished from his family. He is accompanied by a female companion named Deadra who has saved Ghat from apathy. Throughout the game Ghat faces unbeatable foes and in the end the mysterious secret is revealed.
Why should you get it?
You should definitely get it because it takes a new spin on video games, it is ridiculously fun with a very intriguing story-line, it has a companion along side you through out the game not dissimilar to Alyx from Half-Life 2. It takes you through the complex world that is Zenozoik that has endless mysteries buried inside it.
What other features does it have?
Buying it grants you access to lovely Zeno Clash models usable in Garry's Mod, allowing you to create beautiful scenes with the characters from Zenozoik.
Anything else to know?
The Xbox 360 version is somewhat better, it is name Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition and it adds new game modes and features such as cooperative gameplay for tower challenges in both offline and online games, new attacks, new weapons, a new voice actress for the character Deadra, a character gallery and an awareness system. Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition was released on Xbox Live Arcade on the May 5, 2010.

Zeno Clash 2
What is it?
While a whole lot is known at this time, it is known that it is getting released April 30th, 2013 and instead of using the Source engine it will use the Unreal Engine, this is to allow the developers to create an open world, instead of a closed linear one as seen in Zeno Clash. It will also be released on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, instead of just PC and Xbox 360 like seen last time. You can see more about it in the trailers below.

I love this game so much, I just love how everything is so surreal and almost dream like.
Looking forward to Zeno 2 :) The first game was brilliant.
Loved the hell out of the first game.
Whenever someone asks me about it, I tell them it's like playing a dream. Can't wait for the sequel.
How did you guys feel about the gunplay? I personally hated it but enjoyed the hand to hand fighting so much
The gunplay felt weird, like it was half-developed. It also seemed weird to have guns in what is essentially a fighting game, but they did change the pace when present so that was nice.

This scene, when you are on that boat following the river and those strange creatures appear from everywhere, throwing stones at you. Stuck in my mind since I played it for the first time.
Can't wait for the 30th, this is going to be amazing.
The gunplay as well as the sequences devoted entirely to gunplay could've been a lot better. It was enjoyable during the bounty hunter fight, though.

Wait, did I read that right?
The game is rated T with Partial Nudity and Use of Alcohol?
By that standard, any other shooter should be rated T... The fuck, ESRB?
I absolutely loved the first one. This game has such a great atmosphere that barely any other games have.
This game is on my list of cult games that I really, really enjoyed (Alongside things such as Advent Rising)
Didn't enjoy massive success, but it deserved to. Great game, really looking forward to 2
advent rising deserved little to no praise what so ever.
this game on the otherhand deserves shitloads. the only thing i hated was the VO but considering all the voice actors were basically friends of the developers i let it slide.
they created an entirely unique and beautiful world, oh yeah and the combat is fun as hell.
game itself was short as fuck but i think it was the perfect length for such a game

It truly does feel like a dream, especially the nighttime levels. Then of course you had the actual dream sequences, the music made those surreal as fuck.
Speaking of the music, I swear to god this is some of the best stealthy music I've heard anywhere:

Also considering the game was made in Source. It opened up a way for people to develop new maps in the ACE Teams version of Hammer.

Hmm. I actually uploaded that soundtrack video to Youtube ages ago on my old account. I feel bad having uploaded it in such low quality, it actually does some injustice to it.
In other news, I'm looking forward to ZC2, it's looking pretty damn nice.

i think my favorite visual experience in the entire game had to be the boat ride

Zenozoik in general is easily my favourite fantasy world.
the only thing i didn't like about it was that it was pretty goofy.
this could have not been a problem of if they hired better VO and in general toned down the whackiness just a bit. also the level design while brilliant and vibrant was a bit goofy as well.
kinda like someone who's never actually taken acid trying to recreate an acid like experience. something about it just falls short most of the time.
the world itself is fairly gritty but they could tone down the technicolor palette just a bit, make the character designs a bit less ridiculous and more numerous (seriously there were like 3 bad guy models most of the time) and hire actual voice actors.

So you want them to remove half of the stuff that made Zeno Clash unique and great?
to put it in a nutshell the game just needs to feel a tiny bit more mature in my opinion because it sort of feels like it's confused about what it wants to be.
things can still be zany and loopy as fuck. to be honest i think you guys are misinterpreting my poor choices of words. i'm not talking about anything drastic. if anything what i think the game needs probably would be solved with a bigger budget. and i have yet to look at ZC2.
also it's a fairly minor complaint. it was a deeply engrossing and awesome world but some parts that could have been better or different really took me out of it.
it's the reason it's more of a 7 out of 10 for me rather than a 9. and again, i'm betting it's just production values, not artistic merit.
[editline]27th April 2013[/editline]
yeah the new one looks pretty much exactly like what i was talking about. i think they done right with the sequel from what i've seen so far.

I always thought it was just plain fucking weird, nothing else. The only part I didn't really like was the voice acting, and even then it was either passable or "so bad it's good."
weird in a sketchy sort of incomplete way.
it's getting harder and harder to describe.
Zeno Clash 2 has been released!

Is anyone else having trouble trying to do the four hit juggle combo?
[editline]30th April 2013[/editline]
Nevermind. I got it after about 20 tries.
Helps if you use a controller.
Huh. Turn around after exiting the family plaza back into halstedom for a surprise. [sp] there's a metamoq sprite that leans out from an alleyway behind you and disappears soon after. [/sp]
Makes me wonder if that's a running thing that's hidden across the whole game.
[editline]30th April 2013[/editline]
Yep, it's a running thing. I just saw it beyond the wall coming from the south gate back into Halstedom too. That's pretty cool.
I've heard mixed opinions on ZC2 so far, but I loved the first one despite its flaws. I assume it'd still be worth me picking this one up?
