Well, no true opinions yet, because it hasnt been released yet.
It doesnt look too bad, but I hear there is no option to be a Jedi. That sucks. fair enough though, it would be very overpowered compared to the other classes. I havent played SWG either, but a game like this should be quite fun to play.
Ive only watched the teaser trailer.
If it turns out to be similar to Oblivion for the solo gameplay, I would like that alot. KoTOR was fairly similar, but was too restrictive.
If you can do things like, jump in an xwing and fly to Kashykk to buy a new blaster, stuff like that, I will very much enjoy this game.
Offtopic: Does anyone know of any currently existing games that are Science Fiction, but much like GTA or Oblivion? I would really like to play one like this

Mass Effect 1/2. They're not that much like gta/oblivion, but if you like sci-fi games, you'll love em.

Jedi Knight & Jedi Consular class, and yes, they will be balenced.
Looks cool except for the animations, which look quite choppy at the moment. Luckily the game is still in it's early stages so they've got a lot of time to fix the flaws.
I just hope this won't be a major flop like STO was.
It sounds interesting, I might have to give it a go when it comes out. But haven't really heard a whole lot about it yet myself.
Looks awesome, applied for the beta here's to hoping that I get in
I can't wait! I am huge Star Wars fan. I like that it set in a time where they can tell a story that won't contradict the movies or any of the other games.
I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan, and the only thing that bugs me about this is that they can't canonically balance Jedis, so they'll probably ruin some of the canon by keeping the game balanced, which is going to irk the hell out of me.
It looks to me like even though they claim the game takes place in the KOTOR era, it actually takes place during the clone wars

There are two jedi classes and two sith classes :v:
Here's what I can tell from what I've seen:
The good:
- Focus on dialogue and story, Bioware's main strength over other developers
- Takes place in an interesting period of the Star Wars timeline (play KOTOR if you don't know what I mean)
- Seems to have most features essential for an mmo (character interaction, balanced combat, team work, pvp, etc)
The bad:
- Instanced combat takes away from the fun
- Art style they chose looks like shit
- The gameplay seems to clone WoW quite a bit (5-man instances with tank, healer, and dps)
Of course, the game still has much more to go in developement--anything could change.

It takes place after KOTOR I believe.

I'd expect the average joe soldier to have learned a way or two to combat a jedi when there are thousands of them running around the galaxy.

If your a smuggler your pretty much the best smuggler in the galaxy.(Like your in the top 10 best smugglers) "Oh, look it's *insert name here* that badass smuggler."
If your a jedi your just an average jedi. (Like your just some nameless jedi that isn't well known)"Hello jedi whats your name?"
In SWG they balanced Jedi by making it super fucking hard to become one, so it was actually rewarding and cool to see them because they were so rare. But no, in the Old Republic MMO, half of the fucking classes in the game are Sith/Jedi, which means it's not going to feel special when you have a lightsaber shoved up your ass, it's just going to be annoying.
How much of it is instanced? The entire open world? or just "dungeons"?

The bad:
- Instanced combat takes away from the fun Uhm, not really. Unless you never liked Guild Wars which makes you a faggot.
- Art style they chose looks like shit Again, not really.

I'm surprised, why isn't there a megathread on this game yet?
Looks good. I just wish the pvp isnt shit / unbalanced. Oh and i also wish the quests arent half-assed like in WoW or something. [sp] Get 5 mushrooms, kill 5 wolves etc etc [/sp]
Do you mean you hope the PvP is balanced? Because they only showed a short clip of what PvP could be like.
*Trying to deny points*
I like how not liking Guild Wars makes you a faggot. I think it actually means you have enough money for a real MMO. The art style point is opinion, and actually, it does look like shit because they decided to go for a cartoony look. SWG had a realistic style, and that was a plus. And WoW may not have invented it but WoW is the face of MMORPG's so everything will be compared to it regardless. Get over it.
I never really liked Guild wars just because it was instanced a lot.
But then again, I pay for MMO's a lot, if I like them.
New video! I'm so damn excited about this game.

It takes 100 years after KOTOR and KOTOR II

This is a period when Jedi were a pretty damn common sight. I'd be dissapointed not to have a buttfuck of players rolling sith/jedi.

Wait, ALL of the combat is entirely instanced? Tell me it isn't so. And Guildwars is not an MMO.

Seriously, what is it then? A text simulator?

No, it was crap, and it wasn't an MMO, MMOs are supposed to have huge open worlds with lots of players.

Back in its heyday, it had a good amount of players. and just because it had instanced quests and combat doesn't make it not an MMO, it just makes it a special one.
