I felt there was a need for a thread, since I found none. I never make threads so it's gonna be pretty shit-tier. I present you. Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance Forever. It's exactly that, Forged Alliance, but with a proper lobby system, that incorporates many things a modern RTS game should have. I could type it all over but I'll just copy paste the features below.
Forged Alliance Forever (commonly abbreviated to FAF) is a community-driven project designed to ensure that Forged Alliance will live on… forever. It is a complete lobby client system, similar to that of GPGNet was, the default client provided with Forged Alliance, but with many improvements: -Active development. GPGNet is dead. FAF is under active development to continually add new and exciting features, and ensure that any bugs discovered will be quickly dealt with. -Longevity. FAF is a community-supported project, and already has funding to support its server for several years. -Live replays are always on and always working, with a 1-minute delay to remove the possibility of cheating during tournaments or ranked games. Exciting new game modes such as the Nomads (an entirely new playable faction), Experimental Wars (adds many new units to the game), Murder Party, LAB WARS, Phantom X, and many more featured mods. All are integrated directly into the client so it’s easy to setup a game with others, and even come with their own Leaderboards. -Automatic patching. This means you will have the latest balancing, closest to what the developers originally intended. (it’s patch is based off of the 3603 beta patch which GPG had put into beta testing, but THQ would not provide final QA for and thus was never officially released) -TrueSkill rankings for both ranked 1v1 and all custom games. TrueSkill is a vastly superior rating system which can accurately take into consideration 2v2s, 3v3s, 4v4s, FFAs, and any other game type. -Responsiveness. Chat is fast, unlimited, and can be joined with any IRC client, even on your smartphone. FAF is designed from the ground up to be lightweight, responsive, and efficient. Logging in and getting a game going takes seconds, not minutes! -12 player games. 5v5s and 6v6s are possible on FAF. -Non-destructive patching. It patches the game separately from your current installation. That means that you can continue to use GPGNet and FAF concurrently – they do not “overwrite” each other. I always played SupCom and FA till no tomorrow, but never played much online, due to the pretty crap connectivity. SupCom 2 came along, but I've personally never liked it as much as the first one. That was till I found about FAF and o yes, it's so good. There are currently alot of players, so you can find a match pretty easy. It works with steam version and the retail one, it even has several mods already included and custom maps will be downloaded automaticly upon joining a game. You do have to register an account. So for everyone out there that loves SupCom, but never had the opportunity to fully exploit online playing, this is your chance. Here's an example of the said 6v6. I have connection issues that the wiki-page cannot help me with. No-one on the forums is particularly useful either; this is all really fucking frustrating considering I love the series and would LOVE to be able to play with other people. Port-forwarding doesn't work, DMZ doesn't work, UPnP doesn't work, for some reason it just never wants to connect to lobbies and stay connected or even connect to the masterserver when I first start it up.
Hmn, that's strange man, I can feel your frustation. The only thing I did was forwarding the 6112 port and it worked with no problem for me. Are you sure it might not be something more simpler, like an AV?
ZaphodX is a good narrator for Supcom, because he plays the game himself, just like TA4life (praisegugleourmaster), but for beginning players they are a bit too technical in their commentary. For beginning players i should recommend Gyle as narrator (Felixlighta), that guy's casts are always fun to watch ;)
