WARNING: THIS THREAD IS CANON. The year is 666X. A powerful youngster, wise beyond his years, awakens from a B-Ball induced coma aboard the mysterious dwarf space ziggurat Necron 7, held captive by the Malevolent A.I. Cuchulainn. With no memory of who he is or where he came from, he adopts the identity of X114JAM9 and sets off into the Post-Cyberpocalyptic Wasteland in search of the enigmatic Cyberdwarf, the only one who can reveal to him the terrible truth behind his forgotten past and make sense of his harrowing future. Barkley 2 is a coming of age story, a story about love, hope, betrayal and redemption. It is a story about identity and sacrifice, a story about wayward jocks struggling for a purpose. It is a story about the trials of our dystopian future and most importantly... ...it is a story about You. Barkley 2, as it is colloquially known, is an action RPG edutainment vidcon* developed by Tales of Game's. It is the sequel to the renowned game Tales of Game’s Studios Presents Chef Boyardee’s Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa. Barkley 2 is an open world action roleplaying game with heavy emphasis on exploration, choice, character development and discovery. It combines the focus on strong characters and narrative of Eastern RPGs with the non-linearity and openness of Western RPGs, drawing on the best ideas from titles like Realms of Arkania, Fallout, Dark Souls, Romancing SaGa, Dark Sun, Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. It is a game that combines core roleplaying ideas like character creation and development, quests and choices and consequences with fast-paced, action oriented combat (think Soldat meets Zelda) and Tales of Game's unique and erotic sense of humor. In short: this ain't your grandpa's rollenspiel. [SUP][SUP]*video game[/SUP][/SUP] Some of the things Barkley 2 features: Things Change Over Time - People, places and quests change over time; the things you experience might be completely different from what your friends experience because you did them at different times. The official Big Idea behind Barkley 2 is that everyone will have a different game - things changing over time is the backbone of this idea. Large, Open World - The Necron 7 is a large, open environment with dozens of areas to explore. There are things to find in every corner and secrets everywhere - this is a game all about exploration. Edutainment Fast-paced Action RPG Combat - Barkley 2 has mouse-aimed shooting gameplay that takes inspiration from action games like Crimsonland and Soldat, but also RPGs like Dark Souls and Gothic. Stats, classes and an incredibly deep character creation system give you complete control over your character; we want to make Barkley 2 a game that is not only funny, but fun to play. Randomized Gun's System - Gun's are randomized through a complex system similar to Diablo's or Borderland's, offering millions of possibilities. Shotgun's that shoot ooze, machine gun rocket launchers and gravity rifles are just the tip of the iceberg of our gun's system. Even more than this, you can fuse gun's together in a system similar to demon fusing from the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. The weapon combinations are nearly unlimited. DwarfNET - Connect with fellow dwarfs and dwarf enthusiasts on the in-game DwarfNET message board. Jack your cranial USB into the data matrix and search for clues or chat with tech-savvy dwarfs about vidcons, layups and the latest jock news through the amazing power of bio-cybernetic technology. ...and more? THE REVIEWS ARE IN: “Barkley 2 is the game that will change the RPG playing field forever. The edutainment revolution is nigh.” - Tales of Game’s “Tales of Game’s have one-upped themselves with Barkley 2. With a focus on rich narrative, strong characters, open-ended exploration, serious choice and consequence, Barkley 2 is a game that will have echoes throughout the edutainment industry.” - Tales of Game’s “When a winning concept, a talented, battle-tested crew, and a noble destiny collide… [Barkley 2 is] a financier’s dream combination.” - Tales of Game’s “The Post-Cyberpocalypse has never looked so grim… or so beautiful. Barkley 2 is the first game to make me question if vidcons have the capacity to be art.” - Barack Obama Still not convinced? As of writing this update, we're less than $1,000 away so let's make this happen! If we do hit our goal, we will give you the option of selecting whether you want a Mac or PC digital download when the game is released. $50,069 - MINI GOAL - Legendary Blue Duergar Quest Translated to English for THE VERY FIRST TIME! - If we reach $50,069, just $69 more than our Mac port goal, Tales of Game's vows on our bushido honor as edutainers that we will translate the legendary Blue Duergar Quest from its original Japanese. Barkley 2's Blue Duergar Quest was voted the greatest RPG quest ever by trillions of Japanese gamers and rocked the mystical land of Nippon to its very core. Tales of Game's will make this quest available in English for the first time ever and bring it to gaijins across the globe. $55,000 - MINI GOAL - Mysterious Vigilante Drain Clean Pudgey Prowls the Sewers of Tir na nOg - I have no idea what this means, but Frankie says it will be in the game if we make $55,000. Frankie claims that it will cost us exactly $55,000 to put Drain Clean Pudgey in the Barkley 2 and that we cannot possibly do it with a dollar less. Let's make Frankie's undying dream of Drain Clean Pudgey come true. $60,000 - MAJOR GOAL - In-Game Movie Theater - If we reach $60,000, we will be able to have an in-game movie theater that plays films in the vein of Eric "cboyardee" Shumaker's ridiculous Youtube videos like Dilbert 3, The Football Kid and Oldest Trick in the Book. It will also give us the money we need to hire actors for incredible live action cutscene videos. Our good pal, the indomitable Youtube wizard Docfuture1, will also be contributing! Mama mia! $62,000 - MINI GOAL - Barkley 1 Save Import System - At $62,000 we'll be able to produce a system that allows you to import your saves from Barkley 1. The imported saves will let you bring over data, items, character choices and ~L.I.B.R.A.R.Y. C.A.R.D.S.~ from the original Barkley and will have ripples throughout Barkley 2! $65,000 - MINI GOAL - Barkley 2 Al Bhed Translation - At $65,000, we will be able to give gamers one of the most requested return features from the original Barkley - an Al Bhed translation. We at Tales of Game's feel that the Al Bhed community is too often overlooked by big game publishers. It's time to take a stand for what we believe in and show big developers that we demand Al Bhed in our games. The translation will be laborious and painstaking, but it will be worth it. $67,500 - MINI GOAL - Hidden Scenarios - There are upwards of 4 legendary names that have been imbued with miraculous power since the dawn of time. Their careless utterance has been the root cause of history's most devastating calamities. If this goal is met, Tales of Game's will finally have the means to (safely) harness these occult forces and integrate these sources of power into our game as 4 alternate scenarios and game modes, available to whoever enters these names at character creation. Nude mode is a distinct possibility. $70,000 - MAJOR GOAL - Nightmare City, a huge city with tons of new content - Right now, our plan is to only have a single large hub city, Tir na Nog. Tir na Nog has dozens of characters, quests, events and things to do and is by far the largest area in the game. If we reach $70,000, we'll be able to make Nightmare City, a city that's as large as Tir na Nog and features as much or even more content. Nightmare City will feature a massive library, a haven for weary ballers, dozens of NPCs, tons of new quests and events and more content that would not otherwise make it into the game. $73,000 - MINOR GOAL - We will wear pants during office hours - Apparently it's considered "hygienic" and "socially appropriate" to wear pants at work. Whatever, we'll make an effort to wear pants while we're working, but ONLY WHEN WE'RE ON THE CLOCK. STRETCH GOALS 2: THE STRETCHENING 90k - MAJOR GOAL - New Game + - Let's start by saying: there is no place in Barkley 2 for your granddaddy's New Game Plus. When you complete the game, new challenges and new opportunities will become open to you. Our ideas for new game plus won't make the game easier, or more apt for speedruns, but another version of the main game itself. X114JAM9 awakens aboard the giant space ziggurat Necron 7, but why does he already know who he is? Has he done this all before...? 100k - MINOR GOAL - Throat of Geolgothar - Think twice before reaching this goal! Descending into this terrifying dungeon is naught without consequence. It is not uncommon to wake up from a nightmare in which you were running for your life and sanity, trapped inside the Throat of Geolgothar, only to find yourself still trapped inside the Throat of Geolgothar. 120k - MAJOR GOAL - Animated Cutscenes - This is a goal we only fantasized about when we first created the Kickstarter campaign. We'd like to incorporate at least 3 animated cutscenes greated by the ToG artists themselves along with some extra help in making them as high quality as possible. We're thinking along the lines of LucasArts classic Metal Warriors - check it out! 140k - MINOR GOAL - Gun'ssharing System - As we've written about before, our gun's fusing and creation system is going to be deeper than a genie mine. We have an idea to institute a gun's sharing system that allows you to export particular gun's you have fused or discovered and share them with other Barkley 2 players via the world wide web. Make gun's. Not war. 200k - MAJOR GOAL - Space Jam Theme - We kick this game into overtime. (Or at least try to. Licensing music is expensive and completely at the discretion of who owns the song and if they even want us delinquents messing with it.) 1.2 million - MAJOR GOAL - Super Bowl Commercial - Last year's Super Bowl was watched by over 110 million people. Help us spread the word about Barkley 2 to the widest possible audience with a Super Bowl advertisement! We estimate $1.2m should get us around 6 seconds of airtime in Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. Your support has been incredible so far, and we know with your help, anything is possible.
Check the kickstarter page here for more info, early gameplay footage, and rewards for donating. I loved the first one and I will most likely be donating to this. Tales of Games are gods in the edutainment field.
I have a feeling Cuchulainn won't be in the game.
Somebody took the thousand dollar reward tier to impersonate ToG in an interview, I can't wait to see how that one plays out. :v:
IT'S FUNDED!!! Stretch goals should be posted soon, the first one is a Mac port. Here's a super tsundere wallpaper for everybody: http://i.cubeupload.com/YPAuqB.jpg
That has tu be the longest title for a video game ever.....and wtf tsundere???...
The first game was one of the greatest vidcons ever, I hope to god this one can somehow live up to it.
It's being sold commercially this time, so don't expect random b-ballers making appearances, but they say it has the same style of humor and storytelling as Barkley the first. It still seems amazing and I can't wait for it to release.
don't expect random b-ballers making appearances
:suicide:
:suicide:
I know, no (Barkley 1 spoilers:)[sp]Wilford Brimley absorbing your diabetes[/sp] or anything, but that doesn't mean the game won't be funny. there were plenty of other funny jokes in Barkley 1, so I'm sure Barkley 2 will deliver just fine. [editline]29th November 2012[/editline] Update on the kickstarter page:
Hey everybody, Everyone at Tales of Game's cannot believe how quickly we surpassed our goal and we want to thank everyone for your incredibly generous contributions. We are consistently blown away by your enthusiasm and generosity and want to extend our thanks for helping to make Barkley 2 a reality. Barkley 2 is really, really going to happen now and we owe it to you, so thank you. MAN!!! Thank you all so much. THANK YOU!!! We are currently working on stretch goals to make this game even better. We honestly did not expect this to reach our goal in less than a day, so we were caught a little off-guard, but we've got some very good stuff in the works that we think you will be excited about. I would also like to make it clear that we did not ask for enough money to work on this game full-time f or a whole year, we asked for enough to work full-time for several months. Every single dollar that we get directly translates into more time we can work on Barkley 2, which means that it will be even bigger and better and funnier. We have huge ambitions for this game and the more you're able to contribute, the more realized our ambitions will be. Thank you everybody. There will be more news to come very soon so stay tuned!
mad b ballz also that chart is bs - uniracers is great while high.
mad b ballz also that chart is bs - uniracers is great while high.
The main point is that it isn't for true doom murderheads.
Whatever the first stretch goal is, (it's probably mac support) we've hit it already sccording to the ToGS Twitter page. 47k$!
Mystical greetings, It has been an unbelievable week and we've been astounded time and time again by your generosity. Barkley 2 is not only happening, but it's happening with the bells and whistles: we are getting to make the game we have wanted to make for half a decade and more. We can't thank you all enough for helping to make Barkley 2 the BoNkErZ game we have always wanted. But before we get to the fun and exciting stuff, we just want to let everyone know that we've got a PayPal account set up for people who are having trouble with paying through Amazon. Unfortunately we can't link with images in updates, but there's a big PayPal logo for you to admire. And here's a link if you'd prefer to use our PayPal account! Stretch Goals We've hit the majority of our Barkley 2 stretch goals in only a week. We are totally blown away! ToGsters (and ToG well-wishers) are the most powerful allies we could possibly ask for. Here's a rundown of what you can expect (and prepare yourselves for). $50,000 - MAJOR GOAL - Barkley 2 Mac Port: Our first Major Goal has been hit! The game will be released for both PC and Mac in Q4 2013. Porting to Mac will be done by the most righteous Leon Arnott, who just recently ported Barkley 1 as well! This was a major funding goal and we accomplished it fast thanks to all of your pledges. Thank you everyone! $50,069 - MINI GOAL - Legendary Blue Duergar Quest in English: Ladies and gentlemen, we did it! By securing $50,069 of pledges, ToG Corporate has assured us we have the assets and it would require a completely unforeseen gaming catastrophe to keep the Blue Duergar Quest from English-speaking roleplayers the world over. As the only quest ever to win Famitsu magazine's annual "Quests -My- Heart" poll over seven consecutive years, we are incredibly pleased to finally bring the soul-stirring melancholy and sweeping romance of the Blue Duergar Quest to western fans. Here's a top secret screenshot: $55,000 - MINI GOAL - Drain Clean Pudgey: Drain Clean Pudgey ✓ $60,000 - MAJOR GOAL - In-Game Movie Theater: Our second Major Goal has been met as well. Thank you again for all your support! We can now afford to spend hours meticulously crafting MS Paint animations of people's faces deforming along with whatever virtuoso work the brilliant DocFuture1 provides. Watch his videos and confirm for yourself that this is the greatest news! In addition, we also have the money we need to hire actors for live action videos! $62,000 - MINI GOAL - Barkley 1 Save Import System: Physics' First Law of Canon holds that the canonicity of any story, cycle, or saGa is equal to the canonicity of its previous chapter minus the effect of any dubious, non-canon events depicted. That is, all canon tales, legends and lore MUST be derived from a source of equal (or greater) canonicity. ToG recognizes these irresistible and immutable forces of the universe, and will now ensure the canonicity of Barkley 2 by allowing all relevant facts and figures to be imported from your truly canon Barkley 1 save. Take a look at your save file. Does Cyberdwarf have over 255 Brain points? Did you hold on to the Leporine Ring? Is your total-number-of-steps count a prime number? Find out if your past deeds and misdeeds will help you - or haunt you. $65,000 - MINI GOAL - Barkley 2 Al Bhed Translation: With the help of your pledges, we can finally show the world that games can be a force for good! At $66,727 and counting, we finally have the resources to provide the world's underserved Al Bhed population with what they need the most: a quality edutainment product by ToG. And you guessed right, it is your lucky day... the Al Bhed translation is available in the upcoming Barkley 2 Mac port as well. Frankie's Awesome Pixel Art One of our artists, Francis Coulombe has uploaded two awesome videos to his Youtube channel showing the creation process for his incredible pixel art. Check them out - he's amazing! Barkley 2 character portraits and sprites Barkley 2 barrel explosion Frankie regularly streams pixel art creation on his Ustream account so be sure to subscribe if you want to see the man in action! We've still got a few stretch goals left, including Nightmare City, a huge city filled with a ton of content that we are very excited about! Oh, and as a quick teaser, we're currently building a launcher to tie together all the games in the ToG pack - Please enjoy reading this wall of text! Discuss each point in detail with your life coach or call in the family and make an event out of it.
i'm glad that there's a thread for this

The concept of a chaos dunk is so incredible to me.
It's fucking bizarre to see a game with Irish in the title. It just throws me off, not used to seeing it in the entertainment industry.
Also, a neat interview about barkley 1 for your reading pleasure: http://www.gamespot.com/features/the-making-of-barkley-shut-up-and-jam-gaiden-6401241
Here's a preview video of the Vidcon Pack you can get from the kickstarter.
UPDATE 4:
Mystical greetings, Once again, you all have completely shattered our expectations and helped to make this game even bigger and better than we originally imagined. We've reached two important milestones. First, we've beaten our highest stretch goal by nearly $3000. Second, more than 3000 amazing (crazy?) people have decided to support our ridiculous game. Both of these are incredible to us and we can't thank you enough. We didn't expect to reach our initial goal until the last day of our Kickstarter and when we had 200% of it in less than half of our total time, we were blown away. You all are amazing, so thank you. We've got some new stretch goals in store, but before we get to them, we've put together a montage video of a few of the games in the Tales of Game's vidcon pack. We're still adding to it, so this isn't final, but at the moment the pack has 24 games so far. There's no telling how many games we'll have by the time this thing is done, but you can bet it will last you until Barkley 2 is out. If you love Tales of Game's, vidcons or packs, the Tales of Game's vidcon pack is the vidcon pack for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCJwKkRhVGg New Stretch Goals! You guys have demolished our current stretch goals so we've decided to add more. I want to reemphasize that every dollar we get lets us work on the game full-time for longer. We want to work on this game for about a year; the longer we can work full-time means the more content and the higher quality content this game will get. The funds we get now let us plan ahead for the game's future and build content this game wouldn't otherwise have. The stretch goals we have planned represent just some of the things we'll be able to do with this money, so check them out! 90k - MAJOR GOAL - New Game + - Let's start by saying: there is no place in Barkley 2 for your granddaddy's New Game Plus. When you complete the game, new challenges and new opportunities will become open to you. Our ideas for new game plus won't make the game easier, or more apt for speedruns, but another version of the main game itself. This game looks really radical, but I had to read through the OP twice because after the first time it felt like something written by Jerkcity.
