Bear with my here as i state my prediction of the future of gaming. Its probably silly but it's what i can see happening.
Imagine a world where there corparate giant relentless destorys game companys after absorbing there brands. A world where lone game compaines cower in fear from the giant. A place where this giant, this company of EVIL ARTS, rules everything. They control the prices, the games, the staff. They are gamers only choice. They are always inventing new games, even though the suck, they still lure in thousands of gamers everyday. Gaming's only hope will be the few independent game companys that manage to survive. Soon there will be a time when the giant controls everything. This will be marked by Activison being absorbed by the giant. After that, no game company will stand a chance, as the the console manufactures ignore this evil.
It's what ive always predicted this. And if you picked it up, the company is EA or electronic arts.I cant imagine EA ever buying the big three console manufacters, there major companies that make EA look like a lemonade stand. Thats not what im saying. This future is becoming a reality. Anyone hear about the fall of pandemic? Hear of Bio-ware being owned by EA? Westwood, maxis, the list goes on. I remember looking at the Mercenaries 2 website every day before it came out, being so excited. The blog scared me that fateful day. Pandemic was so excited they were partnering with EA, but 1 year and a half later, Pandemic was absorbed into EA. What scares me is valve is in a partnership with ea and currently very happy with it. This scares me... So many may call this all fiction and EA a regular company, your probably right, but this is coming from a Pandemic and Maxis fan....
This should be a movie.
I hope one day we will be able to put cord things in our head and when we fall asleep, we will be similar to a lucid dream but instead it is the game and you can control everything in the game and it will be like real life.
Of course that won't happen in a million years and my imagination in running again.
Video games will become quaint relics and entertainment will come in ways we could never possibly imagine.
I don't think so.

This. Imagine if you told children in 1920 that in 70 years we would have computer systems you plug up to your TV and control a character through a story line? They almost couldn't comprehend what you're saying. Likewise, entertainment in 70 years will hopefully be radically different than today.
I hope I will be alive when a Tron like game comes out.
We'd better have holodecks by the time I'm 70. :argh:

Video game companies merge, split, rename, and die out all the time.

Beautiful.

It should be a game
What would happen if the entities known as Bobby Kotick and Microsoft decided to merge?
Why do people still hate EA?
They're getting much better. Activision is the only one who would do this at the moment.
People will always hack through restrictions to get more freedom; as clichéd as it sounds, it's basic human nature. People will hack together computers, hack together an OS, write games for that, and play whatever the hell they want however the hell they want it.
People will also hack through restrictions to get more money, and since they'd be a huge market for less restrictive platforms, this would also be highly lucrative.
What would happen if the entities known as Bobby Kotick and Microsoft decided to merge?
Then you will be forced to buy Windows bundled with Modern Warfare 2 for only 2000 $ extra, and a 50 $ pay-to-keep-the-game-on-the-harddrive fee per month

EA just published VALVe's games on the consoles. They don't do much else.
I would like to see, when I buy a game I have it for all platforms, like when I buy a blu-ray movie, it comes in DVD and digital copy as well.

That's sort of happening with the Steam PC and Mac thing.

I completely forgot about EA's bad record.
And then they announced DarkSpore. Ugh, EA.

I have to agree that EA is getting better. Just today I found out about Alice: Madness Returns. It's following the original Alice in Wonderland story and it looks promising. This is probably the first time I've been excited for an EA release. http://www.ea.com/alice
Late 2010 early 2011, Activision announces that you now have to pay a monthly fee for most of their multiplayer games.
Starcraft II becomes the most pirated game of the last ten years due to [Insert crack guy here] added lan support.
Mid 2011 Blizzard releases their new expansion for World of Warcraft, destroying most lore(along with the ingame world). Players slowly fade away to other mmo's due to how low the difficulty curve has become
Mid late 2011, portal 2 is released with no plans for paid dlc, VALVe is now the only company left that doesn't use paid dlc.
Late 2011, a new call of duty is released, players rage due to five release DLC's, including maps, multiplayer weapons, and the second part of the campaign, on top of the subscription.
Early 2012, piracy is at an all time high, the swedish pirate ISP is now nation wide and slowly expanding into other scandinavian countries.
Mid 2012, HL2: Episode 3 is released one day with no warning, gamers rejoice.
Late 2012, Blizzards shares gets bought up by Activision due to the Warcraft franchise doing badly.
Video games will become quaint relics and entertainment will come in ways we could never possibly imagine.
I dream of Imagination Spheres every day.

I find it funny that the Evony team is up there.
Don't really think EA/ Activision/ [Insert publisher here] will go on with that without paying fines for being monopolist like Microsoft has to do at the moment.
Would be a great movie concept as kevinseven said.
Activision will buy everything and we'll be playing Guitar Hero 12 with three hundred dollar fisher price peripherals.
I sound like a crazy conspicracy theroist but there are signs! :-)
1: EA and VALVe are "Partnered" just like Pandemic and Ea. Ea was publishing pandemics games after they broke the lucasarts deal.
2: VALVe is happy about the deal. Just like Westwood and Pandemic.
But now that i think about it EA is getting better but, I still see them as THE EVIL ARTS. I was a massive fan of CnC and Merenaries. Im a big fan of Sim City too. And whats that about Dark Spore? I might cry.
WHAT IF. What if EA bought Game Informer and all the other magazines. Ea games would be made much better looking, and EA would control the presses. Just throwing that out there.
just shut it you nutty conspiracy theorist

Except EA has no control over Valve at all. EA bought Westwood and Pandemic and own the rights to their games. EA couldn't buy all the gaming magazines even if they wanted to, many are owned by large publishing companies or by the system they're dedicated to (Official <Insert console here> Magazine is owned by the company it promotes).
[editline]04:33PM[/editline]
Also why do you hate EA? They aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. Activision are the 'evil' corpertion these days.
That's sort of happening with the Steam PC and Mac thing.
Yeah it is kind of cool, but I wanna have a game for the 360, PS3 and PC/Steam. I bought CoD WaW for the xbox, and I want it for the PC. 1. It's a first person shooter. 2. Custom content. I bought all the map packs, and there is no refund, and since it's used, the little rich kids won't buy it.
