You can still play for the pure enjoyment of playing, what do kill cams and achievements have to do with anything? If I'm anything like other people who play games, I don't pay attention to achievements, and why is a kill cam so game breaking?. I for one would have liked if they updated and changed some significant thing in CS:S, but they would of course get hated for it, so Valve just added some eye-candy and fun features for an old game. It's nice I guess, but I would have wanted some gameplay changes. Anyways, complaining about new free eye-candy is stupid.

Noone of the gamemodes worked at first and i had the surrender animation before too untill i sent a ticket to valve.

The problem with that is, if someone doesn't like those changes, then they've practically wasted their money on the game.
By just doing eye-candy, Valve has made it an easy to ignore thing if you don't like it, but made it so the game can potentially gain some more replay value for achievement/stat lovers.

A friend of mine has it worse: he has got the no-death animations for hi's CSS after the update.
My only problem is now no skins for anything work.

It does apply to the gameplay, they messed up with recoil and other shooting features.
