Source
Zeno Clash developer ACE Team believes PC owners are "more open" to weird game concepts. Speaking to Eurogamer, co-founder Carlos Bordeu said that may have been the reason Zeno Clash struggled on Xbox Live Arcade. "I don't know whether it was because most people had already played Zeno Clash on PC, or that the console game launched a year later, but we definitely had much stronger sales on PC than on Xbox 360," Bordeu revealed. "It hasn't sold nearly as well." "Zeno Clash was definitely weirder than most games, and it would be absurd to think that didn't put-off some people. "PC players are maybe more open to trying weird games - games that aren't so mass market," he added. "But I don't know that I'd put it as harshly as PC gamers are smart and console gamers are stupid." Bordeu accidentally let slip that "maybe we might get a nice surprise later this year when we might have some sort of price promotion [for Zeno Clash on XBLA]". Maybe I shouldn't be saying that," he quickly added, "as it's not confirmed." He went on to point out that Zeno Clash had "extremely good" sales in Russia, where everybody is mad. Zeno Clash is a brutal first-person brawler that caught attention for its strikingly original world, where trees, bushes and architecture bulge with Gaudi-like charm - not to mention its unusual cast lead by hermaphroditic central character Father-Mother. The game remains a staggering achievement for a team with a core of four (and at most seven contributors). The original PC release of Zeno Clash happened in April 2009. The game was enhanced with co-op among other things for Xbox Live Arcade a year later. Dan Pearson assessed the PC game and Christian Donlan appraised the XBLA version. Chilean dev ACE Team is currently hard at work on Rock of Ages, a tower defence-style game that involves rolling a boulder around a map trying to destroy rival settlements. More on that, plus the status of Zeno Clash 2, later.
Yep, we like our weirdness. I do, certainly.
I didn't like Zeno Clash that much, wasn't very fun. Also, it probably didn't sell well on the XBLA because hardly anyone buys semi-actual games on it, besides BF 1943 I guess.
TF2 on PC: Woah this is awesome! TF2 on console: What the fuck is this shit? What bad graphics
holy shit there were only 4 devs? I mean I saw the same names a bunch of times but I didn't realize it was only 4 people that almost excuses the horrible voice acting (but yeah, pc gamers tend to like things that aren't so mainstream, so ofc we'll try weird shit)

Killer 7 is still the most weird game.
Yeah, but for me Zeno Clash was way too weird, felt like an acid trip (I'm guessing at least, never experienced one). I liked the idea of the game, but the art style pretty much summed up what I don't like.
Well the Internet is full of weird shit for free or a couple of coins. And that's not possible on the consoles, there's very few weird games on Live Marketplace/PSN Store. And they cost money, sometimes a bit too much even.
I'd say it had more to do with it being $15, a year late, and having a huge filesize with a crappy demo.
Probably because Zeno Clash is shit.
In an alternate universe: "Console gamers "More open" to weird games." PC fanboy: I GUESS THIS JUST PROVES THAT ALL CONSOLE GAMES ARE WEIRD RIGHT?
Oh, I must have stumbled into a console wars thread. My mistake.
I enjoyed Zeno Clash. Sure, you beat it once, put it down and never look back, but it was unusual. It's a lot more than another glop of sepia-toned realistic health-regen modern weaponry first person shooter.
I loved Zeno Clash's utterly bizarre world, but the gameplay was "meh" at most. It didn't feel particularly dynamic. [editline]05:42PM[/editline]
He went on to point out that Zeno Clash had "extremely good" sales in Russia, where everybody is mad.
Hah.
Well, I believe most XBLA titles don't sell very well, unless they are plastered all over the "Spotlight" channel for a month or so, which I don't believe Zeno Clash was.
Of course it didn't sell on 360 that doesn't mean they're more or less open to weird stuff it just means that it was advertised more on PC because it ran on the Source engine.
I greatly enjoy playing Zeno Clash every now and again. The challenge mode is a blast and the campaign mode was quite fun. People that hate it probably just couldn't take the time to get accustomed to the controls or they let the hilarious voice acting get in the way of enjoying the game. It was a visual feast and damn fun.
I'd love to see more from Zeno Clash. Zenozoik was such a fun world and they could do great things with it in future games.
I didn't really like the art in Zeno Clash, but I was willing to overlook that for the fun. It's one of the few games that makes first-person brawling FUN. Maybe the only one.
I loved Zeno Clash
