• Valve: No PlayStation Move or 3D Support Until Portal 3
Valve may have softened on it's previous belief that the PlayStation 3 was too complicated by developing the upcoming Portal 2 for the system, but that doesn't mean it'll be supporting all the fancy features Sony might want it to. Valve recently told PSM3 magazine (via CVG) that implementing support for the PS3's motion controller Move or for 3D would have to wait "until Portal 3." Valve's Doug Lombardi said: "[Move and 3D] will have to wait for Portal 3 or another title. We won't be supporting those in Portal 2." Valve does not appear to believe that supporting Move or 3D matters for the next few years, if this comment is an indication, as Portal 2 is being released 3 to 4 years after the release of the original Portal. Portal 3 would presumably need another 2 to 4 years. I can't say I'm disappointed, even though I haven't played a game in 3D or with Move yet and I do think that playing Portal 2 in 3D would be super awesome. However, when other developers are ending development on additions to their games due to the addition of Move support, you've got to wonder if it's worth it. At least Valve won't be doing that anytime soon. Portal 2 is scheduled to release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC sometime in 2011. Its many gameplay additions were shown off earlier this year, making it appear to be worth the wait even if it won't bug your eyes out or allow you to play controller-free.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102450-Valve-No-PlayStation-Move-or-3D-Support-Until-Portal-3 So did they just announce Portal 3 or was that just an example of how they mean their next game will use 3D or Move support?
Portal 3 :wtc:
So I suppose this means that Portal 2 will end cliffhanger-ish. God dammit.
Meh I was still going to get it for PC,and now they said Portal 3 wheres my Ep3 :argh:

They may just be toying with us, by nonchalantly adding that there though.
Have not even released portal 2 yet and already thinking about portal 3 nice.
I don't think this necessarily means Portal 3, it's just being hypothetical
I have to admit, a 3D portal would be pretty amazing. Just imagine going through a portal in 3D at high velocity.
I have to admit, a 3D portal would be pretty amazing. Just imagine going through a portal in 3D at high velocity.
Sounds like a hot tub full of motion sickness to me.
I would think that the sony version would contain the PSM since portal would be the top seller for it. Oh and 3D sucks ass anyway so VALVe should NEVER do a 3D game.
3D doesn't suck, it is just overused at the moment. 3D done correctly can be amazing.
3D is overrated. It kills your eyes and unless you have 20/20 vision it'll always look shitty.
3D is overrated. It kills your eyes and unless you have 20/20 vision it'll always look shitty.
Maybe Red/Blue (and all variations), but digital 3D actually looks really good.
Maybe Red/Blue (and all variations), but digital 3D actually looks really good.
I beg to differ.
Do share.
Well when I meant suck I should of included at the moment cause the 3D fad is out of control, SONY really is beating down on it I'm just saying. 3D should be for cinemas not television since old shows were never made for 3D.
Then use a new TV. SONY is actually doing it pretty well.
3D just seems extremely pointless. I mean, whats wrong with the game itself? And don't say it adds Realistic effect, because it doesn't.
Playing Portal 2 or even just portal with the move would be fun as hell.
So I suppose this means that Portal 2 will end cliffhanger-ish. God dammit.
Name one Valve game that hasnt ended in such a way.
Team Fortress 2.
Name one Valve game that hasnt ended in such a way.
All others before now were MEANT to have another after them. (Portal didn't until it was successful.)
Tomorrow I'm reinstalling IZ3D and Portal and trying this out. That combined with the Sixense controller coming out for the PC would be pretty close to Portal 2 with the Move and 3D, gameplay-wise. My guess is Valve won't do it because it'd be putting the PS3 above the PC and 360, when they're still pretty much considered PC developers.
So I suppose this means that Portal 2 will end cliffhanger-ish. God dammit.
Portal 1 didn't end clifferhanger-ish.
I never said it did and as of lately it does. Since a recent (The last few months) update,[sp] you are dragged away by a robotic voice.[/sp]
Move ? Seriously ?
milk that series
I look forward to see more Portal games, as long as no HL2 related games get delayed.
