Find a cave, and keep going down. You'll find them eventually. Just keep digging.

Dig straight down, if you made it to lava, jump in it with all your tools in your inventory, and you will be granted with diamonds as long as you don't move when in the Lava.

ok the only way to get diamonds is to get, EXACTLY 3 creepers following you, once you have that, you have to lead them into your mine, once all 3 are in your mine, seal it off, and go get every valuable thing you have, then go back in the cave and let them explode, and diamond will be revealed as well as you not being hurt.

and be sure to mine it with your fists like someone said

oh and if you use pickaxes, it just destroys the block and you get no diamonds

Get rid of your inventory, go to your mine with NOTHING in hand or in the inventory. Then get some creepers there and blow them up to reveal diamonds. Then whack the diamonds with your hand for a while. DO NOT USE TOOLS, THEY WILL BREAK THE DIAMOND. When the diamond breaks, it will shatter in many pieces. Collect them, they will fill your inventory. Then take them out, and repeat.
