• Horrible decrease in performance since upgrading to Windows 7 (64 bit).

Okay, so around two or three months ago I upgraded from Windows XP to 7 on a fresh reformat. Installation went well, and all seemed normal until I launched up Garry's Mod. It was clear then that something was very wrong, seeing as I'm getting 15 FPS in areas that prior to upgrading to 7 I'd easily be getting 30-40. It does this for all Source games, and others. Grand Theft Auto IV is practically unplayable now, which pisses me off because my brother with a computer that isn't even as good as mine (I don't think at least) can destroy me in performance now, only after we both upgraded. Please help, Facepunch. My specs: GPU - ATI Radeon 4850 (2296 MB) CPU - AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor (2.3 GHz) RAM - 4096 MB My brother's specs: GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (1779 MB) CPU - AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor (2.3 GHz) RAM - 2048 MB I'm gonna post this in Technical Support as well, so if this doesn't belong here (I figured it would because it's related to gaming), just let it die. Thanks in advance, amigos.
Have you got the latest video card drivers?
Have you got the latest video card drivers?
Of course.
Just gonna shoot this out there but you got the 64bit version right?

Doesn't 64 bit have problems with A LOT of games?
Doesn't 64 bit have problems with A LOT of games?
Not necessarily for me.
Update your drivers.
Not necessarily for me.
It's just what I've heard.
What I don't understand is how everyone else gets performance increases (or the majority) after upgrading, but I get hit with a decrease. Ugh.
Did you install Motherboard and Processor drivers?
Did you install Motherboard and Processor drivers?
I'm pretty sure Windows Update did that automatically, when I manually looked for drivers for my processor, there weren't any compatible among the ones I found. I didn't try looking for motherboard drivers. Doesn't it automatically install those to make your operating system work?
Not always
Your best bet is drivers.
One of your drivers somewhere is shot. I've had no problem playing everything but DOS games.
I don't think my processor has drivers for Windows 7. This blows.
The only problem I've had with Windows 7 so far is Punkbuster (Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2)
Most issues from Win7 comes from driver issues and accessories that you can install with your hardware. I personally have had some trouble with the accessories but obviously that does not affect performance. I have not had any trouble with performance on Win7 64x. Sounds like you most likely have a bad/missing driver someplace
Well talking with technical support about my processor the guy told me Windows Update automatically installed them, and my BIOS and motherboard drivers are up to date. I'm fucked.
