The Nethernet lets you play, create and explore vast new layers of the Internet: lay traps, create connections between sites, and gift friends with just a click of a button! Turn your web browsing into an adventure!
If you're already interested in this, and want to try without reading any more of this kind of okay post, just sign up on the site, www.thenethernet.com, and download the Firefox only (as far as I know) toolbar/hud for it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6336/
Also, here's an introductory training mission
Now for a little bit of information.
There are 6 classes you can choose from, 3 on the side of Order, 3 on Chaos.
Chaos
Seers, "The pranksters of the web" -
Seers find strange new places on the web and transport other players to those destinations. They're the pranksters of the web that seek out parts unseen, places unknown, cats un-LOLed! Seers mainly use portals to send players from site to site without knowledge of their destination. The Abundant Portal upgrade allows Seers to upgrade their portals to earn the 2 DataPoints (the currency) for each player who takes it.
Destroyers, Ka-Pow! -
Destroyers annoy other players and bring themselves great joy. Destroyers use the "attack!" button on the toolbar to leave Mines all over The Nethernet. Their Exploding Crate upgrade allows them to, buy spending 10 Pings and a mine, make an Exploding Crate. They look just like a regular loot-filled crate until...
Vigilantes, A different kind of justice (and my class!) -
Vigilantes pursue to soldiers of Chaos throughout the Nethernet. Yet because they continue the cycle of violence, Vigilantes are part of the Faction of Chaos. Vigilantes use St. Nicks to stop Destroyers from mining on the Nethernet. Vigilantes also get Watchdogs, with guard URLs and prevent players from leaving mines at those locations. St. Nicks can be upgraded to Ballistic St. Nicks that also deal damage to players' armor.
Order
Benefactors, Gracious & Generous (no kidding, I found an Ever Crate with 420 DP on this page) -
Benefactors are known for their gracious manner and generous personalities. They strive to get along with everyone. Benefactors use the "awsm!" button in the toolbar to leave DP Cards on sites they like. Since DP Cards is an ability, you'll never have to buy them in the Shoppe. Each card is worth 10 datapoints. Benefactors also get Crates, can store up to 10 tools, 1000 Datapoints, and 500 pings in one crate. They're a great way to trade loot with other players. Crates can be upgraded to Puzzle Crates, with 10 pings of course. Puzzle Crates protect loot with a Question and Answer. You set the question, and the person who gets it right gets the loot.
Pathmakers, A Light in the Dark -
Using Lightposts, Pathmakers illuminate connections for other citizens of the digital world. They use Lightposts to save URLs and make missions.
Beduoins, Fighting to Keep it Safe -
Bedouins try to keep The Nethernet safe for other players. They protect themselves with Armor and seek out Mines to detonate. They also have a Dodge ability, with grants them a 10% chance of evading any mines.
Now, you're not actually restricted to one class' skills. You choose your main class, but you can still use the other class' tools and abilities, and you level those up as well.
I'll just provide a link to the tools page, because I'm a bit tired of typing. http://thenethernet.com/guide/arsenal
The cool thing about The Nethernet is that you don't really have to devote time to play it. You just browse the internet, and stuff happens.
Also, to provide an example of the classes thing, I'm a level 8 Vigilante, and I wanted to place a crate here with some DP and loot for the first person that revisits, but I can't because my Benefactor aspect's level isn't high enough for it, so I'll just place a Watchdog and a DP card.
Have fun!
This game is easily exploitable, which I am currently doing. Money money moneeeey
I remember this, ill try again as a destroyer, and troll this thread so when OP comes...
Seems like someone mined the home page and the mmo subforum, but not this thread.
Didn't this get shut down at one point?
Damn forgot what Email I had my account connected too
Guise take my portal on main Facepunch.
Can we all agree to stop putting mines on Facepunch?
Never
50 DP Cards on this webpage, kindly placed by me :)
I can't place enough watchdogs to hold back the destroyers.
I played this for a bit until I realized it was lagging Firefox and causing it to crash.
I'm not a big fan of the portal feature due to the fact that someone can easily exploit.
Wait, so i can set up a portal on site to redirect people to meatspin?
Wait, so i can set up a portal on site to redirect people to meatspin?
Yes, but they can report you if what you send them to breaks rules.
If they're not too busy having their computer fucked to press the button :smug:
I put like 10 mines on this page then changed browser.

I don't think you can activate your own mines
Needs more Chrome addon.

You can
I installed it, let's check youtube
[editline]05:54PM[/editline]
Whoa, youtube has a lot of crates
Wait a minute...
I made a portal heading here last week,
Is this game showing up as a thread here because of me? :P

How does that even make sense?
I put a portal in main FP.
Holy crap, when did this go back up? I remember it dying out of nowhere months ago when it was bought and that bacon crap was introduced.

I remember playing it in 2007, and my account is still there! It died a while ago.
[editline]04:47PM[/editline]
Or 2008. I could be wrong.
Shantoz left a portal on this page. I'm not going within ten feet of it.
[editline]11:02AM[/editline]
And I would have laid mines on Facepunch's main page if it wasn't for those meddling kids and their watchdogs! :argh:
I'd get into this if it were for Chrome.. Downloading and installing firefox just for this just seems illogical.
I remember this from a few years ago. Quite fun, might try it again.
I just made my first mission :swoon:
I just filled the furry section with mines, does that make me a bad person?
Not really. I loaded the Maplestory thread with mines. Not quite the same, but still.
