When I double-click on the steam shortcut, nothing happens. No error, the process doesn't start, and nothing pops up. What could be causing this?
what happens if you double click on Steam.exe?
Delete your RAM.
Delete system 32 map, It contains bad viruses that destroy your Steam and you. (User was banned for this post ("Unhelpful reply" - Benji))
Try deleting clientregistry.blob in the Steam folder.
clientregistry.blob? [editline]09:10PM[/editline] fucking ninjas
Kill the steam.exe process in the task manager and try again.
No process comes up. I've already deleted clientregistry.blob and did all the things prescribed on the steam website.
Kill the steam.exe process in the task manager and try again.
Oh God, i remember when i shut down Explorer.exe in the task manager, thinking it had something to do with IE. :downs: I activated it again, but still.
1. Shut down STEAM.EXE in windows task manager. (CTRL + ALT + DEL to get there.) 2. Delete clientregistry.blob in the steam folder. 3. Restart your computer and see if that helps. 4. RE-INSTALL STEAM (Only do this if extremely necessary!)
I have done all of that.
Any external programs that could be interfering?
Yes, I was running a few programs on the list, but I disabled them and nothing has changed. [editline]01:05PM[/editline] and I am an administrator.
Well you can turn it off to improve performance if you have a shit computer
But how will you navigate Windows? Don't kill explorer.exe .
Are you running any interferring anti-virus software or firewalls? It could be possibly that.
But how will you navigate Windows? Don't kill explorer.exe .
You can get shell replacements that take the place of explorer.exe. Such as BB4Win, an extremely lightweight shell. Or something like SharpEnviro, where it's more customisable and flexible. There's plenty of them out there, and they've been around since Windows 3.1.
Are you running any interferring anti-virus software or firewalls? It could be possibly that.
I fail to see how that would stop the process from starting, but I already tried uninstalling my anti-virus (I reinstalled) and that did nothing.
