Just got done playing the underwhelming experience that is "Turok 2008" which I thankfully grabbed for 5 bucks, and man, do you know what I realize? There are NO game based around dinosaurs that at ALL capture the kind of experience you're hoping for. At least nothing that wasn't made for the PS1 or Nintendo 64, and therefore utilizing graphics that couldn't be used to frighten a three-year-old nowadays.
Why is this? How is it that the only thing that looks to come CLOSE, is a Crysis mod based on Jurassic Park with an alleged release date of around 2012?
Seriously, I'd have thought people would make SEVERAL Jurassic Park games by now based from a first-person perspective and designed around fighting or running from carnivorous predators of the gargantuan variety. It's really sad when I've had my eye on Turok for so long, a game mostly known for being rather crummy, because of the vacuum of sources for my dino-fix.
This is the same kind of thing that made millionaires out of Tyler Perry and Stephenie Meyer; the industry isn't providing enough worthwhile content for the people and subjects not matching the current hot topic demographic, so whenever ANYTHING comes along, people will latch onto it. It's really sad that to this day, Turok is the one game I know to be out right now that focuses on encounters between players and dinosaurs with anything resembling modern graphics or gameplay.
But as I said, pretty crappy. As much as I like hunting velociraptors with only a bow and a hunting knife, the story is weak, the character development is virtually nonexistent, the ai is pathetic, the human models are stuck deep in the uncanny valley, it's riddled with graphical glitches and the first stage of the final boss fight is unimaginative and next to impossible to beat.
Plus, as much as fighting/escaping the Gigantosaurus or Scarface brings that heightened adrenaline that comes from running away from a gigantic, seemingly slow enemy that has a massive stride and therefore moves faster than you and is on top of you most of the time, I don't like just turning the dinosaurs into some other kind of video game stock-type. In Jurassic Park, they rarely ever had weapons, and they rarely ever did any good. Sounds like Silent Hill or something, doesn't it?
Here's a proposition: "dino/monster survival-horror".
Does anybody else remember sneaking past the Antlion Guardian in Half Life 2 Episode 2? Wasn't that a rush? Terrifying, yet exhilarating and rewarding? That's because you were up against an enemy you couldn't beat, only slow down. It was bigger than you, it was faster than you. It's sounds would get louder as it closed the gap between you. You just need to get to the cave...! Get to the cave...!
This would make for awesome gameplay. Much like the "Research and Development" mod, you're not armed with weapons, only tools. You can improvise, you can sneak, you can trap, but you are no soldier; you can't win in a straight fight. Imagine this for a dinosaur game. If you see or hear a predator, you don't stand there and kill it with a simple quick-time-event, you RUN, you HIDE, because to not do so is suicide. You're vulnerable, almost naked, in a land full of primal giants evolved to ambush, outrun and outgun.
THIS is the true dinosaur experience...why is there nothing like it?
Carnivores series.
But they are very old. Check them out if you please. :)
I present to you...
Jurassic Park: Trespasser

I want a game where you play as the dinosaur and nom people :| Would be cool to have good AI for the raptor packs. Being able to direct them and what not.
I haven't seen a dinosaur game come up in a while, much less in the survival horror genre. But I'm damn sure that Monster Hunter is a close second with dragons and dinosaurs.
Dino Crysis scared me, well the dead silence and corpses everywhere freaked me out.
Also play the older Turok series.
Edit:
Primial carnage is a team based inde game where players go on dino team or human,
Also Dino instinct.

Eh...like I said, graphics that can't frighten, and using true weaponry, making the dinos even less scary. Not to mention the game can't render enough foliage to BEGIN disguising or hiding dinosaurs to at least build tension. I've seen Trespasser, and I don't really get what the fuss was about. Also, what was up with the girl in this always aiming and firing with floppy arm movements?

Giant tits...Not to mention one time i saw a dead velociraptor in a great death pose...Think of looney tunes villians landing head first on the ground like a mail box.
and I don't really get what the fuss was about.
Because at the time most of the features in the game were unseen.
At least at the level it did them at.
It probably would have been better if the people making it didn't promise so much and could have got it finished.

Dude
You can kill raptors with a STICK using a dynamically controlled arm that's no longer (or more flexible) than your left breast. That's more than enough in a game, in my opinion.
The best dino-related game is JP:Operation Genesis, until the crysis-mod-that's-no-longer-a-crysis-mod comes out.
Except I don't really count Genesis, because it's basically just "Jurassic Tycoon". Unscripted top-down gameplay where you are essentially a roving God doesn't strike me as scary...
I thought the dinosaurs in King Kong were pretty intense
Because dinosaurs can't use l33t guns like the Deagle and the M4A1 acog nade launcher.Totally obvious. :downs:

That died I think.
As long as this is the one you're talking about.

Just had nostalgia reading about JP:OG.
But I enjoyed Turok as a game. Try it.
The arcade lightgun JP game is quite entertaining.

I quite liked Dino Crisis 2 on PS1, was fun at the time and quite scary in parts.
Also Operation Genesis was pretty fun but was like Zoo Tycoon really, not scary either.
Trespasser was pretty interesting but didn't hit the mark too well - would be cool if they remade it or made a new similar game using todays processing and graphical technology.
I agree with the OP, where are todays decent dino games?
Dino Crisis 1 and 2 on the PlayStation were awesome back in the day.

Flagship game for Unigine, I believe.

That's a different mod.
Wait, there are people that actually enjoyed the buggy, broken, boring mess that was Jurassic Park: Trespasser?
Anyway OP, the first Dino Crisis is your best bet.
Think Resident Evil, but with dinosaurs.

Ah yes, nearly forgot about that one. It looks totally awesome, a team of class-based survivors fighting against deadly dinosaurs. It's a bit like TF2 meets L4D, except instead of a big shaved Russian bear as the Heavy Weapons Guy, we've got a badass shirtless black guy with a beanie, and instead of the Tank, we have a motherfucking T-REX.
I'd buy this game definitely, but I sure hope it gets released on Steam. (I like keeping my games in a safe, easy-to-retrieve place, not having to worry about fragile compact disks)
I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but there's a mod for UT3 called Jurassic Rage that adds Velociraptors and T-Rexes to UT3 maps. So you can either play a deathmatch with the added bonus of dinosaurs running around in the fray, or for a slightly more survival horror route, you can pick a jungle map, give yourself only a sniper rifle, and hunt dinosaurs by yourself.

No I'm talking about the good one that's using their own engine:

Bonus points if it's a game has raptors with feathers.
Turok on N64 was pretty badass
Dine Crisis. One of the best games for PSX
King Kong aint that bad of a game, it had a good survival feeling.
