But unlike others, the focus of the simulation FPS will be on its four-player co-op campaign. According to Codemasters, Red River will usher in a host of enhancements over the previous title, Dragon Rising. It's a list that includes new class roles, customizable upgrades, better inventory management, and smarter AI. Red River is set in a modern world and is poised to feature a narrative-led campaign that pits the US Marine Corps against the Chinese PLA along the Vakhsh River. Drop-in and drop-out co-op during this campaign is being positioned as a key feature for the overall compliment that the game itself is "being built around," according to creative director Sion Lenton in a statement. “In creating Operation Flashpoint: Red River, we’re building on our strengths whilst taking on board feedback from the community and focusing on key areas and enhancements to further refine the Flashpoint experience,” executive producer Adam Parsons said in a statement. Good to know, considering Dragon Rising wasn't the best Flashpoint experience thus far. Operation Flashpoint: Red River is coming in 2011 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
glad they're dropping dragon rising and build on the community's ideas with a new game.
So is it gonna be as realistic as ARMA or not as quite?
we’re building on our strengths
What strengths? the strength to nick a franchise and use its good name to cash in while producing a substandard game thats not near the levels that the game whose name you stole?
Let's judge a game before it's released guys.
I wonder if it'll have dedicated servers. Dragon Rising is completely dead on PC due to the fact that there aren't any servers because it's only P2P.
Dragon Rising is a shitty game, my worst purchase on steam. [editline]10:09PM[/editline] They need to improve a damn lot if it has to catch my interest

Codemasters, please, just stop. You're not going to make more money by throwing in "Operation Flashpoint" into a generic military-themed FPS. I know that it's "relevant" to current day events and all, but why aren't game devs still not tired of making mil-themed games set in desert environments?
I can't believe they have the money to make another one.
USMC vs China, drop in drop out co-op as a key feature. Is this bad company 3 or what?
USMC vs China, drop in drop out co-op as a key feature. Is this bad company 3 or what?
They realized that the only thing that they can do are co-op campaigns.
I played Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising. The premise and most of the plot was explained in one of those narrated dealies at the start of the game. I ended up on some grassy hill, which looked worse graphically then Brothers In Arms Hells Highway while somehow managing to run 10x worse then Bad Company 2, I went up the hill and was in plain sight of a village below us. I told them to run down the hill and one guy stood still while another one ran around a fallen tree for 15 seconds. I stopped playing.
I can't believe they have the money to make another one.
DiRT(2), GRID, FUEL. That is where all their income comes from, and those games are still selling well, (yes even FUEL).
People bought FUEL? Hahaha. Well, then again I bought Dragon Rising... and never finished it, it was that bad. Why would they waste their money making another piece of crap when they can concentrate working on what they do well? - making DiRT 3 and Formula 1 fucking awesome.
I wonder if it'll have dedicated servers. Dragon Rising is completely dead on PC due to the fact that there aren't any servers because it's only P2P.
I think the game is even dead on the consoles too.
In my opinion ARMA will never be as good as the original OFP and the expansions. I can still remember playing Nogova RP /nostalgia Now Codemasters is just milking the name without even trying to come close to the original.
It looks like its turning more into your standard military fps rather than a tactical one. Customizing weapons, upgrades, xp, etc. Maybe it'll turn out better than Dragon Rising cause at least it's not going to be a grassy knoll for the whole game.
I didn't even find Dragon Rising very realistic. The player character died pretty quickly I guess and most of the combat was from pretty far away... those Chinese guys took like 5 rounds before going down though.
Wow, I still play DR on 360 and enjoy it. There's a really close community considering the small amount of players. Flame me if you want, but I don't have a rig that can run ArmA 2.
I think the game is even dead on the consoles too.
Almost but not quite. You'll find a few servers here and there but even so there are almost never full games. It wasn't that bad of a game, but it could have been better. I bought it and sold it by the end of the month. It was just too damn boring.
What's so bad about Dragon Rising? I've never played it but it looks kind of cool, a lot like Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 1/2.
What's so bad about Dragon Rising? I've never played it but it looks kind of cool, a lot like Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 1/2.
That's whats so bad about it. If you had any understanding of the original Operation Flashpoint you'd know why.
I'll just get this once it is on sale on steam.
There were so many damn issues with the previous installment I don't even wanna know what they will be doing with this.
That's whats so bad about it. If you had any understanding of the original Operation Flashpoint you'd know why.
I really want to re-install O:FP just because ArmA 2 runs like hell on my comp. Even when I switch to the better computer it doesn't run all that well.
Going to laugh if they use the Dirt 2 engine. Dragon Rising felt like a racing game to me even before I found out they used the GRID engine.
Going to laugh if they use the Dirt 2 engine. Dragon Rising felt like a racing game to me even before I found out they used the GRID engine.
The irony is that for a racing game engine, EGO's vehicle physics was shit.
Driving in DR was also incredibly annoying because you couldn't look around while driving. You were stuck looking forward no matter what. I didn't think it was that bad, but I got it for $2... :v:
I really want to re-install O:FP just because ArmA 2 runs like hell on my comp. Even when I switch to the better computer it doesn't run all that well.
Stop trying to use high settings. Those aren't really for consumer hardware.

Just because you don't like doesn't mean no one does.
