I thought it wasn't allowed to uploaded anywhere outside of torrents?

Yes I know it's been a while since the upload but I just looked now.
The guy who uploaded it got lucky, the person who inspected the upload was probably like meh, time to check some uploads, approve, approve, approve..
If that's the case I'm surprised no one's flipped a shit yet. I mean 8 days seems a little long to ignore it.
there's like no point in getting this

How come? It's interesting to see what the game was supposed to be like, and what it could've been if it was never leaked.

Valve already confirmed this version of HL2 was not going to be retail. Most of these concepts were already removed or in the process of being removed.
tbh most of the stuff from the hl2 leak is actually in retail
if you want old concepts you would want the wc mappack, which contains maps from 2000
Good God...
awesome, been looking for this, haven't had it in years. say what you will about the beta, you have to admit that its fun as hell to fuck around in it.
haaaaaaaah what
Beta background is the best background
Although I still love the map backgrounds. Just the beta one seems so much... epicer

it seems a completely unfinished game (just with demostrations for people) with a lot of bugs in it's engine is far more better than the full retail Half Life 2 we have since 2004.

no
D: Damn that's a large file. Not going to try since it'll take several hours.
-snip- (got confused)
Do people still care about others putting this leak up for download? It's almost been eight years.
Heh, I loved that beta. I spend a good week once just going through it and correcting all of the errors (missing models and other bugged shit) until I had a relatively stable and proper looking beta devoid of as many glitches as possible.
The Good Old Days™
Wasn't there an interview where Valve said they didn't care anymore?

Pretty much. The reason why the guys at missing information are doing themselves is because they want to.
It's not like it matters since it's so old and doesn't contain anything confidential. I'd imagine it's there simply for nostalgia and for those interested in seeing what decisions they made with the development.
Every time I start up hl2.exe, it crashes on loading. Why?
