- Source Engine. Building new engine = too much time.
- Source gives them 60 fps
- Modified Source - "Rewriting major portions of it".
More information in the article. Sounds like Sci-fi L4D.
Sounds like a really cool idea, it's a shame that EA will find some way to ruin it however.

But it is a source game published by EA?
Prepare for tons of fog.

No Valve won't do that. They will reveal Source 2 on their own game because no one knows their engine better than them. I also have never heard of a game company let other game developers reveal their engine on a game not made by the dev that made the engine.

Of course Valve is not going to let Respawn reveal the Source 2 engine... There's no way that would happen. That was not my suggestion.
My suggestion was this: perhaps Valve has given Respawn access to some of the next-gen tools such as the new Hammer editor. Also, perhaps Valve has given Respawn access to specific parts of the engine code... for example, maybe the lighting system or the AI system.
Valve seems to be already using backported code from Source 2 in several of it's current gen games, CS:GO and Dota 2 for example. Also, we know that L4D2 has been ported to Source 2... so apparently there is a level of compatibility between the 2 engines.
Basically, I'm trying to answer this question: why is Respawn making a next-gen game with the Source engine instead of using Unreal or Crysis or Frostbite with their next-gen toolsets & workflows? We know that Source has great support for multiplayer games. In addition I'm suggesting they may have been given access to newest Valve tools, and perhaps even parts of the Source 2 engine as well.
All speculation tho...

?
It'll be on PC, sure. But let's see if it's on Steam.
I'm thinking it'll be like the PC version of 007: Nightfire, where the major engine rewrites will be done by the company who licensed it rather than Valve.

Depending on how much control EA has over Respawn. I wonder if it's about as control as EA has with DICE or say 2015 back in the day.

Unreal Engine 4?
Unreal Engine 4?
Was first revealed with the elemental demo though.

Tom Leonard (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tom-leonard/0/86b/493) helped port L4D2 to Source 2. I think there was an FP thread about it, but I can't find it right now. Neogaf has it tho - Towards the bottom of the OP on this post is a screenshot of Tom Leonard's LinkedIn profile: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=573769

Some Titanfall media:

It looks like Source.
What's up with the awful framerate on the gameplay video.
Looks alright, has the tell tale markings of the Source Engine.

Bear in mind that the second game on the source engine - Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines - had to wait for Valve to release Half Life 2 before they could release the game.
Which begs the question on how Titanfall's release will be handled if it's on a modified version of the Source Engine.

It's not Source 2, so they can release the game whenever they damn well feel like it.
Holy crap, this is in Source? It almost doesn't resemble it anymore, but in a good way, graphically speaking.
Looks cool, didn't know it was Source until I looked it up.
Certainly looks like it doesn't have those quirks that make you go "yep, this is source alright". :v:
It actually does, do you even know what you're looking for?
Has that Source engine look about it in the vegetation and texture resolution, still better graphically than Portal 2 or CSGO.
I will admit, I was taken aback seeing Titanfall in action.

What markings may I ask? Because I don't see any. Hell even the shading looks different.

Found a gameplay video with a better framerate than the one posted.
In case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

Ambient lighting on physics/dynamic props is very source-like, same with the Phong specular, and the distinct lack of HB/HD/SS AO (Which is a shame).
