Rogue Legacy is a 2-D sidescrolling 'Roguelite' coming to Windows and eventually Mac & Linux. It's full of monsters, treasure, traps everywhere, and a randomly generated castle. Why the Dark Souls reference in the title you may ask? It's hard. There is no possible way to explain the difficulty of this almost simple-looking game. You start at the beginning of your family's legacy, and make your way through the castle facing numerous enemies, traps, and massive bosses, searching for treasure and glory for your family. Eventually, you will die, when you watch some gameplay videos you will understand why. When you do, instead of choosing the same character, you select on of their three heirs, which all have classes, special traits, and different abilities. Some of the traits include: Colorblind, Near-sighted, Dyslexia, Bad Gas, Hypergonadism, Roids, and much more. With the gold your predecessor collected, you can upgrade and rebuild your family estate in the form of a stat tree, where you can increase your beginning health and mana, unlock skills for specific classes, get helpful NPCs, and much much more. Then you enter the castle as the heir, ready for glory, where a mysterious character will take all the gold you have left as a toll for entering the castle.

We're trying our hardest to get the game out as soon as possible. We originally said it was virtually ready, but we've since received awesome ideas from the community that we absolutely had to implement. We've also been working to get a Linux and Mac version running, so we're a bit behind. That said, the game should be coming out in the next few months (from April 2013). All pre-order customers will be notified once the game is available for download through the Humble Bundle store.

And now, finally, the gameplay videos. Review copies have been given out to game reviewers all over youtube, so there are a lot to choose from. Here are a few of them to start with:

not really sensing the dark souls here.
not really sensing the dark souls here.
It's just a joke, the game is really hard and there are traps everywhere, I know this is also similar to millions of other games but alas I am and uncreative hack and also bad at jokes.
EDIT: Just something I forgot to mention, a lot of the reviewers are mentioning that the game and even it's soundtrack remind them very much of the Binding Of Isaac, so if you liked that game, (Who didn't?), check this one out for even more challenge and randomly-generated murderfests of all sorts.

If it's just a joke ,then it shouldn't have been in the title where it can't be identified as a joke and people are coming in here specifically because it was described as such.
Woah I'm sorry. I can't change it now, I'll PM a mod but I still urge people to check out the game, my shitty title abilities aside it looks really fun from the videos.
It looks cool, but I'm skeptical for now.
Something seems to be missing from the gameplay.
Also that fucking guy in the beta gameplay video comes off to me as condescending.
Yeah this isn't really like Dark Souls at all.
It looks really damn fun though, I love this kind of game, and I think leaving something behind for your next character, even if it's utterly insignificant, is a nice alternative to starting completely one hundred percent over.
I'm getting serious Castlevania vibes from this, although that kinda clashes with the art style.
Why is forest abkhazia named after a real country?
Oh god at the end of the trailer on steam. This was made by the guy who made Don't shit your pants?
Sold :v:
Sorry to dig up a forgotten thread, but I thought some people might like to know that the demo for this game is now available, it can be found here:
http://www.indiedb.com/downloads/rogue-legacy-demo-v102
I'd seriously recommend any rogue-like fans to try it out, granted the demo isn't nearly as full featured as the review copy, it still provides quite a challenge.
Once again, sorry for the shitty title, I've asked the mods of this forum to change it but it never did, so I'd like to apologize again for the terrible comparison made.
oh hey awesome a demo, I've been wanting to try this game out for myself.
Edit:
Well after playing it for a bit I can't say I'm terribly impressed. Because of the random nature of the character's stats it means your attacks don't always cause knockback, plus the down stab doesn't give you enough bounce to warrant using it often in combat. Now while it's true some your children's stats can be tweaked where they do some severe knockback, you don't always have that option readily available. Now maybe there's a sword the blacksmith can sell you eventually that might help balance that out but as it currently stands it seems like combat's bit of a one-sided ordeal.
Plus I'm a little annoyed I couldn't use Xpadder with this game, that's a first.
