i recently got stalker clear sky, and i cant enable wet surfaces or volumetric smoke, i also cant enable the "use dx10.1" option, the boxes are greyed out, but everything else i can enable, and i am running on enhanced dynamic lighting,
Here are my specs:
OS:Windows 7 home premium 64 bit (6.1,build 7600)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 810 (4 CPUs) 2.6ghz
RAM:8gb
DirectX: dx11
graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 with 3gb of memory
your video card can't handle it

Ha! Your windows may have dx11 but your card is only dx10 compatible, still I have no idea why it won't let you select dx10.

ok then, what video card is pretty much the best for gaming and can run stalker maxed out with no lag(and of course is dx11 compatible)also why would gateway(my comps manufacturer) give a computer dx11, but a video card that doesn't support it lol??!
I thought Clear Sky doesn't even support DX11.
Also, what specifically is your GPU anyways? I think you have an integrated chipset.
haha you got a prebuilt
What is your budget if you were to get a new card?

well.... i dont really have a budget... ive only got 20 bucks(im only 13 damnit) but of course i have an allowance so ill save up my money lol, and yes i have an inegrated card, after spending 600 bucks on the computer i didnt really have much money left over to pay for a video card.
EDIT: im pretty sure the geforce 9800 is great right? i just dont kno which is best, the 9800 gt,gtx,or gts,
also, does it matter how much video memory i have? i know i should have at least 256mb of video memory, but should i get 512mb or 1gb of video memory, or more if available?

with today's games you need at LEAST 512 to get any sort of decent performance, but 1gb is the way to go.

ok thanks, but what video card should i get if i want to run it on max settings?
(im only 13 damnit)
prepare for boxstorm
Well, My only suggestion is to not play this game because it doesn't look all that great anyway
yeah cause you know graphics > gameplay... get the fuck out
Your card will shit bricks of molten lead if you play that game max settings. I have a HD 3870 and I got roughly 15-30 fps.
im already running on max just without wet surfaces and no volumetric smoke, and my fps is great.
@sergeyev: yeah i could care less about graphics as long as the gameplay is fun,and so far the first two games in the stalker series are great, anyway, havent played CoP YET but i will, and apparently there is a 4th stalker in the works, but anyway what video card should i get to play stalker on max, or pretty much any game on max?
DX10.1 doesn't add all too much, there should be an option in the basic settings to just enable DX10. DX10 has all of those extra graphical features, I warn you though enabling it will have a considerable FPS decrease.

DX11 isn't just graphical stuff is why. And it's Microsoft, they have included it in Win7 by default.
If you want DX11 graphics (not that impressive tbh, it's pretty much just DX10 with tesselation) you'll need an ATI 5000 series or an Nvidia 400.
No experience with the 400's, but you could go for either a 5770 or a 5850 depending on how much you want to spend. Your CPU isn't half bad, although it probably could be better. So you might want to hold again with a too overkill video card, as that would be pointless on an entirely average (not bad, just average) CPU.

Oh, $20? Eh, yeah nothing to do about that.
yeah that option (the dx10 one) is greyed out,but i have dx11, but can someone please answer what video card i should get to run pretty much any game on max?
4870/5850, dunno with NV, I'll leave that recommendation to someone else.

you may have dx11 but your graphics card doesn't support it
woops didnt see the above post, which card is better? and can i have the prices of both cards plz, and about the 20 bucks lol, i can get money quickly, especialy with a pawn shop a block away haha, by the does anyone have any info on the 4th stalker?
[editline]12:27AM[/editline]
ok sorry for double post( i cant quick reply from my itouch for some reason)if i have dx11,cant i still use dx10 features? so i should still be able to use wet surfaces and volumetric smoke
DX11 cards are fully compatible with all prior versions of DirectX, and to a small degree, DirectX10 hardware is largely compatible with DX11. Or was it DX10.1 hardware? I think 10.1 can run DX11 without the tesselation.
ok so why is my dx10 option greyed out?
maybe your card may not even support dx10?
ok so why is my dx10 option greyed out?
You mean 10.1? That's because your card is plain 10, not 10.1
3000's are dx10, 4000's dx10.1 and 5000's dx11.
ok so theres no chance of using wet surfaces and volumetric smok w/ my current card?
[editline]12:42AM[/editline]
*smoke*
Those are available even in dx9, aren't they?
i dont know, thats why i am asking anybody who is willing to help
You could try for the GTS 250; which is the latest, and probably last, descendant of the eternally relevant 8800 GT.
Plain DX10, but it's pretty much the graphics card of the decade. If any one such thing exists.
ok ive pretty much come to the conclusion that i will probably not get this to work, which is ok cuz it doesnt make that much of a difference, thank you all for your help, but before i end the thread, does anyone have any info on the 4th stalker game, like when it will be coming out?
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 announced for 2012 I believe.
