• Recommend a massive FPS game

hey, lately all I see pitching on the market are casual, fast close quarters combat games, like Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2 or sorts, which have a very console-like feel - which I don't like. I loved Battlefield 2 and Vietnam with it's 64 players servers, giant maps where you could go anywhere you want and battles that took place not in one specifically designed by the mappers spot but randomly across the level. I'm also a big fan of Natural-Selection mod for HL1, mainly due to it's feel of "something bigger going on", and long games, that even lasted for hours I bought ARMA II some time ago, but it's bugged beyond comprehension (I have downloaded the lastest patch) - I couldn't even finish the training because there was always some terrible glitch that killed the game (unresponsive NPC, parachute controls froze, NPC stuck running into a wall, looped grenade explosions, sunken into the ground while carrying a wounded guy etc), not to mention I'm just unable to join any server on multiplayer :( I also have Operation Flashpoint:DR but I find it rather unplayable thanks to the messed up netcode (and I don't like the idea of waiting in the lobby for the game to start, but that might have changed since I bought it) So, can you recommend me some relatively modern fps game with lots of players at once and looong games? perhaps there are some outstanding MMOFPS that I have not heard of (the last time I checked there was a great hype over Huxley, which crashed and burned eventually)
MAG if you have a PS3.
PC only unfortunately, and yeah MAG looks pretty interesting (256 players, wow)
Red Orchestra: Ostfront Nice world war II multiplayer game, now much servers though.
Red Orchestra can get up to like 50 players in a server sometimes.
Battlefield 2142 got a different feeling than BF2, it also support 64 players.
Agree, it was awesome to play 2142, its a nice change of bf2. I still do play them both from time to time.
MAG if you have a PS3.
That is a good one. Dude this fall though we have Medal of Honor, Halo Reach, and Golden Eye 007. Next year it is Killzone 3, Brink, Ghost Recon Advance..something I forget. I think what is definitely in right now is FPS. Well if your more of a PC gamer for sure atleast try Brink I played it at Quakecon and it was awesome.
Reach is comming for ps3?
fallout 3 perhaps, map size its certainly a large game

I heard it fixed all the problems ArmA 2 had.

If you want a game where you help out in the world, or feel apart of it. Perhaps Mount and Blade: Warband? Not entirely FPS, but the world does its own thing regardless of you. Or if it's just large scale, then BF2/BF2142, which were already recommended would be good for you. Plenty goes on regardless of your work.
fallout 3 perhaps, map size its certainly a large game
Think he wants multiplayer, but anyone should own fallout 3 anyway.
BF2142 - totally forgot about this game, when it came out I remember people complaining a little about gameplay, but I think I will give it a try (how's the playerbase nowadays?) Red Orchestra - yes, a good game, but I have a feeling that it's time has passed Fallout 3 - any worth-mentioning mutliplayer? will MAG ever come out for the PC? :D (really intrigued me)
BF2 and BF2142 are your best bets right now. But MAG would be great for you if it was for pc.

No, Fallout 3 doesn't have multiplayer, but if at some point you're looking for a really good open-world singleplayer game, get it.
Borderlands has some rpg elements but very very fun and large.
Red Orchestra - yes, a good game, but I have a feeling that it's time has passed
Nope, there are still usually 3-4 nearly-full 50 player servers at all times.
Battlefield 2 and 2142 are the only ones I can think of. The PC needs more massive FPS games.
Preorder Natural Selection 2?
Planetside. Although it's pretty old.

Natural selection 2 looks good (It was supposed to come out last fall!) Off Topic: Is Mag any good? I have a PS3 and I'm considering it.
Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising Kind of felt like BF2, but larger scale I think. I played last year with 100 or so highly active servers, a couple hitting the 100 players mark, but I doubt it is doing well today. The singleplayer was ok but not worth paying full price for.
Try planet side or battlefield 2142 both are amazing games
World War 2 Online? Its certainly "massive".
