I recently downloaded the minecraft new launcher for the 1.6 update. The problem was that it made modifying the game more complicated. Apparently, we can use profiles which make it so we can chose which version / mod we want to play.
The launcher is currently in development, and will be more improved in future updates, the new minecraft has also introduced resource packs to the game, which is like the same as a texture pack, but it can carry sounds and other things.
The only thing I am worried about, is that if we have something from a certain mod in our inventory, and load up another mod with that save, it might cause serious damage to the game. For example, putting horse armor in your inventory in 1.6, and loading up that save using an earlier version.
Like I said, it is currently in development, and will progressively become more easier to use, more convenient, and more patches to errors that may have been bugging us all for a long time.
I am, however, suspicious about how they said they removed Herobrine twice, it bothers me and makes me thing that Mojang may have a secret awaiting us that we have had under our nose for ages.
Thank you for reading,

Yeah it is very confusing at the moment, just wait for further updates or tutorials.
The saves through the launcher have nothing to do with inventory or anything to do with the game saves, the saves through the launcher are for going back to another version so you can play on another server with a 1.5.2 server, and things like that. It has nothing to do with the game saves, only the version and mods.
