Hey so i recently shipped off to college and no longer have access to my quad-core, crossfire, SSD gaming monster and instead i am forced to use my tiny HP Pavilion dv6000. The notebook has intel's dual-core pentium at 1.60 GHz, 2 gigs of ram, and the intel 945 series on-board graphics chip. I managed to get trackmania to run pretty smoothly on lowest settings. I've tried downloading GMA booster in order to try and play CSS but i noticed no performance change.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to boost performance?
Or, if not, does anyone have any suggestions about the kind of games I can play on my hardware?
Im not looking for flash games because that takes about five minutes of google searching. i want some ideas for free demos or games that i can download and actually play on this thing.
Thanks for the help, i will leave this in your more-than-capable hands, facepunch.
Maybe audiosurf? Great fun if you have lots of music. Mostly with a GMA just look at older games like diablo and shit. You might be able to run GTA:san andreas, and then get the multiplayer mod for epic fun.
okay any ideas for super awesome older games?
What kinds of games do you like?
Diablo 2 is pretty awesome if you like isometric grindfests like me. Maybe XCOM if you want something more strategic.
I'm looking for the same thing.
I'm running the good 'ol Craptop with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M and 894MB of ram.
Why did my motherboard have to die? :saddowns:
The older Half Life engine games, like CS 1.6, CZ, Half Life, and Day of Defeat. It's good if you enjoy online gaming.
Mechwarrior 4 is pretty fun, free, and judging from the system requirements it should run fine.
Freelancer might be hard to find but it's a classic space mercenary game. Great for cooperating on missions online.
Continuum is a free 2D top down space dogfighting game. The controls are basically like Asteroids. Depending on the server you play in, the gameplay ranges from fast-and-simple to bullet spam crazy clusterfuck.
dude i have freelancer on CD. i should have thought of that. that games is awesome.
i also have spent some time searching for some good old-school abandonware, any ideas for some good ones?
Point and Click adventures like Sam & Max, Monkey Island or Indiana Jones

There's a thread here on Facepunch that's just overflowing with old free/abandonware games. Give me a bit to go look for it.

-Master of Orion 2
-CnC Series

-Seven Kingdoms 2
-Age of Empires
-Rise of Nations
-Galactic Civilzations 2
-Snes Emulators with some decent games.
I love strategy games. With these games you will be hooked up for a long time. Especially with MoO2.

age of empires doesnt work with dosbox. any help or maybe and alternate download link that works with win 7 ?
Grim fandango.
Amazing game, and if you look it up on google you'll ifnd a way to make it run on win 7.
I also recommend:
Any worms game
Older GTA games (I think they might be able to run with your specs)
HL1 maybe, it works on my laptop, it also has integrated graphics (so any goldsrc game)
That's what I got. Good luck finding good games.
Robot Arena 2
Torchlight, it even has a netbook mode
Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus

Runs like shit on Intel 945, though, I can confirm.

Fuck that shit, had that game for year and still didnt finish a single match. Fuck I end up just getting a bunch of nuke planes and putting them in patrol mode across the map. and the AI still survives somehow...
