Any inevitable nostalgia aside, I recently tried installing Warzone 2100 on my new-ish gaming computer. However, as soon as any cutscenes or intermission sequences (like the intro vids and the campaign briefings) try to play, they only loop the first fraction of a second of the video and audio.
As though that wasn't bad enough, in-game, as soon as any unit moves, my ears get blasted by an extremely loud static sound. Otherwise, the game runs fine.
I use the original disk, and I have installed patch 1.10. I don't plan on getting any later patches, though, because 1.10 is the last official patch, and the one that my other computers use.
My computer's specs are
AMD Athalon 64 FX-60 Dual-Core Processor, 2.61Ghz, 2 GB of RAM.
I use Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service pack three. The game runs absolutely perfect on XP Media Center Edition, even without compatibility mode, so I don't think the OS is causing any problems. Apparently, this game even runs on Win. Vista and 7. I find its "infinite compatibility" downright amazing, especially for a game that was last officially updated in '99.
My video card is an NVidia 8800 GTS 512 Mb. This is not a sluggish card.
In other words, my system should have absolutely no problems running a game from '99. It can run Crysis with all the settings set to medium or higher with relatively high FPS.
The only real problem, though, is that the computer doesn't have a sound card; only integrated sound. Although, this hasn't caused any problems with any other games.
I've tried running it in compatibility mode for Win. 98, but that seemed to help only a little bit. The static didn't seem to be quite as loud.
So my real question is, will putting a sound card in my machine help with the looping videos problem, or is there some other solution? Any suggestions?

I get a similar bug with Tiberium Sun's cinematics.
Related perhaps?

Tiberian Sun as is "The First Decade"? A lot of people have had problems with it. Apparently, what you have to do is click "start", then "Run..." and put in "dxdiag". Go to "Sound", then find "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" and turn it all the way down. Be sure to turn this back up when you're done playing TS, or else you'll get poor performance in other games.
Then, when you get in-game, Ctrl+Alt+Delete and go to Processes and set TS's affinity to only one core (if you run multi-core, that is).
I added an SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [E400] to my rig, and it fixed the problem. A moderator can lock this thread now.
