so yeah this was annouced by SOE a couple of days ago even though I just heard it today, and yeah not sure if I should be excited or not because there's no information at this time
they can't possible make it any more unpopular as EQ2 got, right
I don't know any official sources, but here's an article on it http://everquest.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=19260
I sure hope they aren't right about their speculation on it being console bound, unless they're super confident they can pull it off
Eq2 was plenty popular, but looked insignificant next to the markets giant WoW.
EQ2 always has graphical updates, I can't even run it on the highest graphics settings anymore :saddowns:. I would still be playing EQ2 if I had the money to.
I don't think EQ2 is unpopular. I got back into it recently and there's still plenty of people and guilds. Compared to WoW, obviously, it's not popular -- but it still has plenty of people that play.
Anyways, excited about this. If it's console bound, though, I'm not going to play it.
Wasn't there some big MMORPG that announced they were going F2P? I read it here somewhere and thought I noticed someone mention EQ2. Is it true?

Hold on, You quit playing because you couldn't afford a high end machine, or the 15$ a month. If you quit a game, because u couldn't run it maxed out then thats just stupid, back when i played wow i would play even on low settings because its a good game.
I hope its the true processor of EQ classic (minus the bugs and bad time sinks). Knowing SOE it might be a WoW clone. If this gets released it'll probably kill off the stragglers still playing EQ1 and it'll lower the population of EQ2.

What? No, I couldn't pay the fee.

Everquest was way before World of Warcraft

Yeah they're making EQ2 f2p later this year.
Not completely. They're just sorta making a trial that never ends. You could play the game for free if you wanted, but you'd miss out on so much that it wouldn't be a good idea.
EverQuest is going free :-)

"Everquest II joins a slate of recent MMOs to cast off its subscription fees. Lord of the Rings Online, a resounding hit with critics, plans to go free later in the year. Dungeons & Dragons: Online, after a disappointing debut, switched to a free model last September. And a growing number of recent and upcoming MMOs -- like Sony’s kid-friendly Free Realms -- are free from day one."

Yes, but they've been copying other MMOS (like how other MMOS have copied them and UO) recently. Like the F2P model, the player housing to go into EQ1, or the extremely easy SoD expansion in EQ1.

Not completely. You'll only have limited access but for a unlimited period of time. You also get limited character slots and are separated from paying customers. I need to get the chart that shows the difference but the eq2 site is down at the moment.
I really liked EQ2, the only reason I'm not playing it now is that I don't want to start a new character now that the game has aged and everyone is at the maximum level already. I can't get into an MMO if there's not a very large newbie population.
Gonna try this out eventually
I really liked EQ2, it was just so hard starting a new character when you have no one to play with and there are no new characters
